Chapter 789: Banished from the Household
Chapter 789: Banished from the Household
The woman said these words with a calm appearance, but in fact, her heart was already out of rhythm.
"Are you sure? How come he doesn’t seem like he’s joking with us; I don’t think he really wants to put us in jail, does he?" someone asked uncertainly.
"No, he won’t, don’t worry, for the sake of the Calvin Family’s reputation, he won’t." The speaker wasn’t sure if they were comforting themselves or others by saying this.
The atmosphere in the dining room had a strange tension.
Their luck didn’t last long; soon, the court subpoenas arrived, and coincidentally, the timing was just at breakfast when everyone was present. If someone did a count, they would find out that it was at this exact time yesterday when Claude came.
A few people who originally regretted signing the agreement too early, upon seeing the four court subpoenas sent to their home and Bart’s particularly dark expression after seeing the subpoenas, all their resentment and dissatisfaction turned into relief.
And the four people who received the subpoenas turned pale.
"Can any of you explain to me what’s going on?" Bart wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin, looking unfriendly at his four children holding the subpoenas, and asked.
"We... we didn’t expect him to actually go to court to sue us," someone whispered.
"Yeah, Dad, I thought we were all descendants of the Calvin Family. He wouldn’t be so heartless, right? No matter what, he would have to consider the Calvin Family’s reputation," someone whispered in agreement.
"Dad, we know we were wrong now. We’ll try our best to make it right; please don’t be mad." Someone carefully glanced at Bart’s expression and whispered.
In the end, that person wanted to say something, but seeing Bart’s grim expression, they finally lowered their head and chose to play dead. They wanted to keep a low profile, but the subpoena in their hand doomed them to not be able to remain low-key.
"If you have something to say, just say it directly, don’t hem and haw with me." Bart looked at his timid son, incensed, his throat itching to cough out the anger, but in the end, he swallowed it back.
"I don’t have anything particular to say; I’ll talk to Claude nicely and ask him to take it back and withdraw the charges against us," the man named cautiously said.
The others at the table didn’t dare make a sound.
"Ha, sometimes I really wonder if you are my biological children. Otherwise, why is there such a gap? Claude already gave you a chance, and what did you do? For that little dead money, you would rather go to jail than sign that damn agreement. Did I, as your father, starve you or deprive you of drinks, making you so shallow that all you see is money?" Bart was furious, waving his hand, knocking the plate in front of him to the ground.
The dining room was filled with cries of alarm, and no one dared to speak for fear of inciting Bart’s displeasure.
"Why isn’t anyone talking now? Weren’t you all pretty articulate before? Why are you all mute now? Speak, I want to see what more nonsense you can come up with." Bart fumed, panting.
"Are you going to keep silent like this?" Bart looked at his silent children, clenching his teeth in anger, but still, no one dared to speak in the dining room.
"Fine, fine, fine." Bart slammed his hands on the table, uttering ’fine’ three in a row.
"Since you can’t say anything now, then I think there’s nothing more for you to say. From today onward, you are no longer part of the Calvin Family." Bart said coldly.
Expelling someone from the Calvin Family was no small matter. Everyone didn’t expect Bart to expel his children over this, but considering Bart’s usual style, it didn’t seem all that hard to accept.
Those not expelled calmly accepted it, but the four who were expelled couldn’t hide their panic.
"Dad, don’t kick me out. I know I was wrong, I’ll go apologize to Claude, I will beg him on my knees for forgiveness, won’t let him take back this subpoena. I beg you, please don’t expel me from the Calvin Family. If I’m kicked out, it will be the death of me." The one closest to Bart didn’t think twice before kneeling, crawling to Bart’s side, clutching Bart’s trouser leg in supplication.
"I, Bart, don’t need a child like you. You don’t have exceptional knowledge, nor outstanding looks, nor superior business acumen. Originally, whether I keep you or expel you doesn’t affect me. But now, your existence affects the Calvin Family’s reputation, so I have to expel you." Bart said coldly.
"No, I won’t accept it. Dad, you must be joking, right? You’re just mad at me for not living up to expectations, aren’t you? You can’t expel me, you can’t!" The man clung to Bart’s trousers, refusing to let go, unable to accept such an outcome.
"Nothing is impossible. You have no value to me, only endless trouble. No one can disgrace the Calvin Family, not anyone." Bart gripped the man’s chin harshly, said fiercely.
"These words are not only for him but also for all of you. Remember, for those like you with no value, keeping you in the Calvin Family is already an act of benevolence. You better behave yourself and not cause me any trouble. If anyone repeats such a mistake, trying to disgrace the Calvin Family, I won’t need anyone else to take action, I will personally come forward to resolve it."
Bart’s gaze swept over everyone, instilling a sense of panic throughout the dining room.
The news of the four being expelled from the Calvin Family quickly reached Claude’s ears. Claude paused with the utensils in hand, then continued to cut the food in front of him as if nothing had happened.
Only after finishing his meal did he wipe his mouth and speak: "No wonder he’s the head of the Calvin Family, indeed he has guts, makes me feel inferior."
"Expelling them? Of course, that’s something he would do, willing to sacrifice four children rather than share his shares." Claude said with a mocking smile.
"So what do we need to do, should we continue?" The butler stood behind Claude, asking respectfully.
"Continue, why not? He’s no longer part of the Calvin Family. Without the Calvin Family’s protection, I’m sure this matter will soon be concluded." Claude sneered and said.
"Yes." The butler responded and stepped back half a step, resuming the role of a shadow.
