Chapter 188: Unresolved Conflict
Chapter 188: Unresolved Conflict
I wished he would give me an answer to my earlier question, but at the same time, I didn’t mind that he was kissing me instead. His hand moved to cup my cheek as he swirled his tongue more rapidly against mine. Our kiss quickly got so heated and so wet. My heart raced in my chest as his hand slid down from my cheek to the side of my neck. I wondered how far he was going to take this, but then I realized regretfully that I didn’t have the luxury to find out.
“Please...enough...” I said in between my wild panting after breaking our kiss.
Bradon looked at me with desire swimming in his eyes. We were outdoors, although there wasn’t anyone else around. We couldn’t escape from the campaign for too long, so I knew that we had to head back soon.
“So, I was right. You just want to sleep with me. Shall we do it tonight?” I suggested invitingly.
Those sweet tempting words of invitation just slipped past my lips and they were clearly not backed up by any logical thought. Before I knew what I was saying, I had just asked to pretty much have sex with him while also setting the date as well.
“I’m not free tonight,” he replied without even thinking it over.
“I see. Well, let me know when you’re up for it,” I replied before letting out a laugh that I hoped sounded carefree.
I honestly didn’t think that he would turn my offer down. It wasn’t like I wanted to do it with him or anything like that, but at the same time, I didn’t think that he would reject my invitation for sex. Then again, I wasn’t sure I understood why I offered to sleep with him to begin with. We returned back in silence as if we had just had an argument instead of sharing a passionate kiss.
It was later that night when I sat on the bed in the hotel room all alone that I was forced to admit that I must have simply wanted a way out. I couldn’t think of another reason that made sense to explain why he was being so nice to me and why I was enjoying his attention. Anything was fine, if it meant that I could tell myself and prove to myself that I wasn’t falling for him.
...
Time flew by and nothing was ever resolved between us. We never picked up that conversation from earlier, and I felt so thankful for that. Bradon’s attitude and actions toward me didn’t change after what happened that day. His sweet and endearing actions continued to distract me on a daily basis. He must have enjoyed teasing me just to get a reaction out of me. Sometimes I found it annoying, but most of the time, I didn’t hate what he did.
The line between Bradon and Anthony became very blurry and it seemed like there was no way of keeping my confusion and emotions in check. Having to act as Diana meant that I had to respond favorably to his advances as well. However, no matter how sweet Bradon was to me, he never seduced me again when we were alone. He also never took up my offer to have sex with him. The way he touched me so casually felt very suggestive and made my heart feel nervous but it never led to something more.
The last day of the campaign arrived. By that time, we were already back at Bradon’s mansion because the last part of the campaign were events and parades held in the heart of the capital as a closing to our tour of the country. Bradon and I were dressed in matching white outfits as we stood on top of a large car that was part of another parade.
This will be over soon...
Suddenly, the car jerked and then there were loud honking sounds. I let out a cry of surprise as I felt myself losing balance and falling forward. Pain shot through my left ankle at the same time that my body was held from behind.
“That was a close one...” Bradon murmured from behind me.
I felt his presence close behind me before I felt his arms around my body as he hugged me from behind. Looking down, I could see his arms around my waist and figured that he must have stopped me from falling. Bradon rested his chin on my shoulder and my heart leapt in my chest at his sudden closeness.
He was right that it was a very close one. I had no idea what caused the driver to slam on the brakes so suddenly but the high heels that I had on didn’t help me keep my balance at all.
“Everyone is watching...” I whispered as I tried to keep a natural smile on my lips.
“Exactly...” he whispered as his arms tightened slightly around my waist.
I knew that I needed to talk to him but now wasn’t the place nor the time. We had everyone’s eyes on us and although he was doing this to help me, our little public display of affection was garnering a lot of public attention. Achieving our goal of looking like a loving couple wasn’t at all that hard now that Bradon was cooperating more than flawlessly; however, I wasn’t sure if that was what I wanted anymore.
“Thank you...Ah!” I thanked him before letting out a cry of pain.
I winced when I put weight on my left ankle. That was when I realized that I must have sprained it when I lost balance my balance earlier.
“Tell them to stop the car,” Bradon turned to say to one of the staff.
“What?” I questioned.
“Where does it hurt?” he asked as he turned his attention back to me.
“My ankle. I probably sprained it or something, but I’m fine. Let’s not make a scene...” I replied softly as I shook my head slightly from side to side.
“Let’s go to the hospital,” he said like this mind was firmly made up.
