Chapter 189: Inviting a Beast
Chapter 189: Inviting a Beast
“It’s fine. It’s almost the end of the parade anyways,” I insisted before braving a smile.
My ankle did hurt but it wasn’t exactly unbearable. This wasn’t a rare occurrence for me given the fact that I had been wearing heels very often. If I just shifted my weight to my other leg, then I can stay standing up quite fine.
“You’ll get off the car with me if you don’t want me to make a scene,” Bradon said with a clear edge of warning in his tone.
“Fine...” I replied through gritted teeth because I could tell that he was serious.
The car had come to a stop based on his instructions which must have reached the driver. Bradon turned and smiled at everyone while telling them in a pleasantly polite tone that I had injured my ankle and that he would be escorting me home where I could get some well-deserved rest. Seeing him act so flawlessly as if he really was Anthony brought a funny feeling to my belly.
“I’m so sorry about this...” I apologized politely.
“It’s not a problem. Accidents can happen. I hope that you rest well,” a member of staff said before smiling at me politely.
...
Our days together were busy and packed with events where we had to act like our siblings. It was tiring and it also kept us from dealing with what was really important. Strategizing about how to talk about my plan with Bradon became difficult and finding the time to talk to him became almost impossible. With Bradon being busy acting as Anthony during the day, he had to handle his work at night.
“He left?” I asked in disbelief.
“Yes, My Lady...” Zain replied with an apologetic look on his face.
I glared at the empty driveway as the wind blew my hair back while I wondered if I should just crash his casino. It was already dark but it felt like his real work had just started. I had no idea how that man worked all around the clock like that but I was sure that it wasn’t healthy for him.
When does he even sleep?
“Do you know when he’ll be back?” I asked without much hope.
“He did not say...” Zain replied.
I was very tempted to give him a call but I doubt that it would make him come home any earlier. The conversation that I wanted to have with him could never be done on the phone which meant that I didn’t have a choice but to wait for him. My anxiousness was killing me and time was of the essence. Despite Bradon’s confident declaration that day, there was still no news of the king abdicating his position and the crown prince was still nothing more than the first in line to the throne.
It’s just a matter of time...
Finding the right opportunity to talk to Bradon was difficult but what was even more difficult was coming up with what to say to convince him to help me. Ruining the Alnault would mean destroying my father’s political career which was currently supported and funded by the Vulkan family. Bradon would have to betray his family for my sake for that to happen. Breaking the alliance would change many things positively for me. My disgusting family would finally crumble if my father loses political power and that would be a very sweet and gratifying revenge for me. Then when the Vulkan family no longer has a reason to support our family, the marriage between Anthony and Diana would be over as well.
Diana would be finally free to be with the man that she loves and Anthony would also be set free. I wasn’t sure if he would willingly let go of my sister but the fact remained that she hadn’t been found. I had everything to gain from this plan, naturally because it was what I came up with. However, what would Bradon have to gain?
“I don’t really know anything about him...” I murmured while deep in thought.
“Excuse me?” Zain’s questioning voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Oh, nothing. I was just talking to myself. When Bradon comes back, can you tell him that I’m waiting in my room?” I requested before smiling a little at him.
“Yes, sure...” he replied with a look of slight astonishment on his face.
...
**Later that night**
Although I told Zain to tell Bradon to come to my room that night, I was half convinced that I would be fast asleep by the time that he arrived. Then there was also that possibility that he wouldn’t turn up at all. I sat comfortably in the bathtub as I relied on the warmth of the water to help me relax and wind down. If nothing else was going well, at least the days of parading along the main roads were now over.
Suddenly, I heard a clicking sound that sounded like someone had entered my bedroom. I sat up straight in the bathtub as I turned to stare at the closed door of the bathroom while my heart began racing faster in my chest. Had I been somewhere else, I would have suspected that someone dangerous may have intruded into my bedroom; however, the odds of that happening in Bradon’s tightly secured mansion was virtually zero. The only man who would enter my room without asking for permission or bothering to knock must be Bradon.
Just like how he opened the bedroom door, Bradon opened the bathroom door without knocking or announcing his arrival.
“Taking a bath?” he asked casually as he appeared in the doorway.
Did he honestly think that walking in on me while I was taking a bath is supposed to be normal?
“Yes...” I murmured as I stared at him.
It wasn’t even late in the evening yet and he was already back. I wasn’t sure whether to count this as a pleasant unexpected development or not, but that didn’t change the fact that he had just walked into my bathroom. I shifted a little nervously in the bathtub because I felt so vulnerable sitting there in the water completely naked.
