Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 79: Barrier

Chapter 79: Barrier

Stanley had arrived a minute after Bradley had got himself caught between the barrier and the fire.

If he stopped making George tangible, he would attack him the moment he could. However, without stopping his powers, he couldn’t make use of his hand to get rid of his own metal objects to get out of the situation.

If things went on like this, he would—

"What are you doing?" Stanley asked, with his sword pulled out in his arms. He pointed it at the man with half-confusion, half-anger in his eyes.

"Stanley?" Bradley’s eyes went wide in surprise. "What are you doing here?"

"I came because I felt like it," Stanley answered, but his eyes were focused on George. "What is he doing to you, brother? Why are you wounded?"

"He’s trying to kill me so he can become the mayor after I’m dead," Bradley said. "Stanley, go and tell everyone what he’s doing. We have to make sure he’s jailed for life."

"No," Stanley said. His confusion was gone from his face, with only anger remaining.

"There are civilians killing civilians, Defenders killing civilians, civilians killing Defenders, and now you want Defenders to kill Defenders too?" he asked George.

George was frowning very much as he couldn’t imagine another person coming into the room at such a moment. This was supposed to have been a simple kill, one that he would run away from before the house burned down entirely.

However, it seemed he had made a mistake.

So, there was only one way to get out of this situation. That was to kill both of the brothers.

He immediately jumped at Stanley, trying to take his sword before he could be attacked. Stanley got ready to defend, but the man simply passed through his sword and then through him.

He stopped outside the door where Bradley couldn’t see him. Realizing that he could touch things outside, he decided to stay out there.

He snapped the fingers on his left hand, and the barrier that was inside the room disappeared. He snapped the fingers on his right hand, and another barrier appeared right in front of the door.

"Brother, use your powers on me," Stanley shouted and waited. He placed his palm on the barrier, ready to go through whenever he could phase through it. However, even as he waited, Bradley’s powers didn’t seem to work on him.

"Brother? Quickly," He said.

"What?" Bradley asked. "I’m already doing it."

"Huh?" Stanley was a little surprised. He punched the barrier, but clearly, he wasn’t going through.

"Try the wall," Bradley said.

Stanley nodded and put his arms through the wall. It went through.

"Oh!" both of the brothers realized. They could not go through the barrier at all. Stanley pulled his arm back and got rid of his shoes and belt. He got rid of his sword as well and jumped onto the wall to go to the other side.

Just as he did that, a feeling rose deep in him that he shouldn’t do this. Still, it was a little to late to stop, and he saw why the warning had come.

He slammed hard against something and was forced back into the room. "Argh!" Stanley grunted. He wasn’t hurt much, but he had slammed into the wall directly, so there was still pain involved.

"Hahaha!" George laughed. "You thought I would be ready for something like that?"

At some point, he had extended the barrier to last even beyond just the door after seeing what the brothers were planning.

Stanley frowned and looked around, wondering what else he could do.

"Stanley," his brother called him. "Go and call for help. Jump out of the window, you can do that right?"

Stanley felt conflicted. He wanted to beat this man that had hurt his brother, but... that wasn’t important right now. Calling for help was important.

"Alright, I’ll go," he said and looked from the open window. It was high, but he could jump from there. His body was plenty strong after all.

"Wait, I can just call for help," Stanley realized. "He-"

Suddenly a golden barrier appeared inside the room, right before Stanley. It suddenly moved, pushing him inward, while the walls around the room all started caving in with golden barriers.

George had covered the entire room with his barriers and was slowly making it smaller. It seemed like it took a lot out of him to change the size of the barrier from something as simple as a single barrier, into a cube that changed sizes.

"No, Stanley," Bradley shouted. "You need to break his barrier."

Stanley looked around in slight panic and confusion.

"The more barrier he is using, the weaker it is. Using multiple ones means that he is spreading the strength of the barrier," Bradley said. "Breakthrough it before it becomes stronger. It will be impossible to break through then."

Stanley nodded and immediately started attacking the barrier around him.

The barrier was strong, stronger than most walls even, but compared to when he had slammed onto it, it felt flimsy. Like he needed just a little more force to break through.

Stanley punched the barrier on the side where the windows were. If he could break through and call for help, that would be the end of it all.

He took his sword as well and started swinging his heavy sword onto the barrier as hard as he could. As he did so, the walls shrunk even more.

The room had started to burn even more and smoke filled it to the point where Stanley had to cough in between every few breaths he took.

As he struck the barrier, the barrier continued becoming stronger and stronger. It was getting strong to a point where it felt impossible to break.

However, the size of the barrier itself hadn’t shrunken by all that much.

Stanley kicked onto the barrier which was very sturdy and used it as a launching pad to jump toward the other side where the barrier’s strength had been siphoned off from to make it stronger.

Stanley’s sword slammed onto the golden barrier towards the door, and the barrier shattered into a thousand different pieces.
