Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 78: What I Deserve

Chapter 78: What I Deserve

Like everyone else, Bradley had come to help with today’s mission as well. The mayor had asked him not to go, but since so many others were going and most likely risking their life, he couldn’t stay and watch.

He had arrived a little late. By the time he was there, people had already left, so he asked old man Sam the direction and went after the group.

He had arrived just in time for the chaos to fully begin. He helped capture a few people, fought a few people into submission, and then went to check the dead bodies that everyone shouted were in the warehouse.

He walked in with a few Defenders and saw the headless corpses. He then looked around and saw a hole in the wall in the distance.

Walking up to the wall, he couldn’t imagine how a wall such as this could have possibly been made. It looked like something large had carved through the wall, like a giant animal mentioned in the books, swiping its sharp claws on the wall.

He walked out with a few behind him and couldn’t find out where the people could have gone. Then, he saw that more people had run out in this direction and started fighting there as well.

He captured a few more people before he realized that the house next to him had started burning. The people walked out, running away from the fire and immediately he and the rest of the Defenders got to saving the rest from the fire.

They couldn’t stop the fire, so all they could do was save the people before the fire spread to them.

He ran into one of the houses that was to the side that had still not caught fire, but soon would. He looked for people and sent them out one by one.

He entered another room and looked around for people when suddenly he heard footsteps. "You should get out of—"Just as he was turning around, he felt something sharp pierce in between his arm and his chest.

Bradley jumped forward in pain and stumbled across the room before slamming into the wall. He quickly got back up, his arm and chest bleeding profusely.

"Huh? I missed?" George said, slightly surprised himself. He hadn’t expected Bradley to turn around at the last moment. "I nearly had your heart."

"George!" Bradley said with gritting teeth. He clutched his armpits tightly so that he didn’t bleed out. He looked at George with anger in his eyes.

"Are you trying to kill me?" Bradley asked. "Heh, why am I even asking such an obvious question? Of course, you are. Your pride wouldn’t let you watch me become Mayor, would it?"

"It’s not pride," George said, walking in. "It’s what I deserve."

"Deserve? If you were so deserving, then why did you not get it?" Bradley asked, buying time for himself to see what he could do in the situation.

"Why? It’s obviously because the old man has gone senile. Just because you are younger than me, he thinks you are a better choice," George said.

"Or maybe it’s because you have a terrible personality, who would kill his own comrade to get what he wants," Bradley said.

"I have a terrible personality? Me!" George started to get angry. "Do you even know how much I car—"

His words stopped when he saw Bradley’s right hand slowly creep and grab his left hand. "Oh! You thought you could distract me and run away?"

Bradley frowned. He was doing exactly that, and it wasn’t working. He should have been able to just fall through the floor of the house, but because of the various metal objects on his body, mainly the sword on his belt and the metal placed on his shoes, they were both stopping him from going through.

Even the coins he was sitting on didn’t help much.

He could go through them if he could produce enough force to dislodge them through his powers, but as he was seated, it was impossible.

"What’s wrong? Can’t leave?" George asked with laughter in his voice as he held his sword tightly. "I thought I had missed my chance now that I had lost my element of surprise, but it seems luck hasn’t abandoned me just yet.

He took his sword and stabbed Bradley in the chest.

Bradley only glared as the sword came for his heart. He moved ever so slightly so that the sword hit him on his right chest instead of his left.

The sword went through the leather armor and just a bit more into his skin before George’s hand slipped from the sword, moving forward. George slammed onto the wall next to him and quickly pushed back against it to move back.

His nose bled slightly as he hit the wall head-first. "You bastard!" he shouted. Bradley had used his powers on him at the last moment, which had made him lose his sword.

Bradley quickly grabbed George’s own sword and got back up. His arm was bleeding, but he had enough strength to kill George if need be.

He held the sword with one hand, pointing toward George who realized that he was the one in trouble now. Even if the fight ended here and Bradley left him alone, he would be in major trouble the next day anyway, as a Defender attacking another Defender was punishable by sending them to prison.

In George’s case, the prison would definitely be the 2nd prison, which no one returned from, ever.

He saw the fire creeping in front of him, from the corner of the room opposite to him and realized that there was only a single thing he could do.

"I’m going to burn you alive!" the man said and snapped his fingers.

At the same time, a barrier appeared in front of Bradley, covering the entire room from ceiling to wall.

He also noticed that the fire had started to burn through the wall. If he didn’t do something soon, he was going to die here very, very quickly.
