Chapter 80: Fight in the Hallway
Chapter 80: Fight in the Hallway
Stanley flung himself out of the barrier with how much force he had used to break through it.
George’s eyes widened in absolute shock at the fact that his barrier had been broken. Even when large, the barrier was usually strong enough to survive any attack from most Defenders.
There were only a few Defenders who could go past his barrier, but that was due to the quirk of their powers, not their strength.
No one had ever outright broken through his barriers before, no matter how weak. However, standing in front of him now was that one person who had done it.
And he was looking at him with eyes that meant to kill.
Stanley swung his sword at George, who dodged easily. The hallway they were in was quite small and it didn’t allow for much swinging of swords, especially one that was as large as Stanley’s.
So, using that to his advantage, George started going on the offensive as well. He dodged the sword and stepped on it to lurch Stanley forward and use that opportunity to punch his head.
Stanley was pulled forward, but he was prepared for anything, so the incoming punch didn’t phase him at all. He blocked the punch with his left arm before giving a kick of his own.
George pushed the kick aside, but doing so told him just how much force there was on that kick. His palm hurt at the force it had to divert.
His right hand snaked its way to a jab, which Stanley didn’t dodge. Instead, he headbutted the incoming jab.
"Argh!" George cried out his pain. His left hand felt numb from the pain, while Stanley didn’t feel much pain at all.
He freed the sword and stabbed it directly at George who was moving back.
George stumbled upon something and fell back, but even as he did, he snapped his fingers. The snap wasn’t as audible since his fingers were still numb from the headbutt, but the barrier still appeared.
Stanley’s sword struck the barrier and was stopped. Stanley immediately tried kicking, punching, and swinging his sword. However, no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t do anything.
This barrier was just that strong.
George rubbed his hurting knuckles and looked at Stanley with bated breaths. This was troublesome. He was cornered, instead of the young man before him, which was not what he wanted.
This left Stanley free to go and call for help. ’I can’t let him do that,’ he thought. At the very least, he had to keep him occupied here so that he didn’t even think of going to ask for help from anyone.
However, it wasn’t as easy as he was imagining. The only thing he could use to keep him here was Bradley, but Bradley was in the room next to them and the door was on the other side of the barrier.
Just as he was thinking about all of this, the seemed to have caught onto this side of the house too. The fire seeped through the holes in the top of the wall where it met the ceiling.
With the fire reaching here now, he would be turned to ash right here, on his own, stopped by his own barrier. It would be more troublesome if the roof caved in as well.
’I need to get to Bradley somehow,’ he thought. He could either kill him or take hostage of him. Either way, he needed to get to him.
A sudden gust of steam washed throughout the house, releasing more smoke in the process. At the same time, some of the walls started falling on him.
’Wait a second,’ he thought. Suddenly, he started kicking the wall next to him. If nothing else, it would directly open up a hole that would lead him right next to Bradley.
Stanley struck harder on the barrier, but it wasn’t helping. He saw the fire and thought that would do the job, but then George started attacking the wall.
Within 3 hits, he broke through the weak wall and went into the other room.
Stanley jumped through the door as well and arrived on the other side, worried for his brother, only to see that his brother wasn’t there at all.
Where he should have been were 2 swords, a pouch, and shoes that he had gotten rid of.
’He left,’ Stanley realized. ’Did he go through the floor?’
However it was that he left, Stanley was just happy to know that his brother was gone, and most likely safe. The fire hadn’t reached the floor, so the house below should still be safe.
A bunch of water was tossed into the room while a majority of it was thrown at the ceiling above. The ceiling made a crackling sound, threatening to fall through.
Stanley stopped caring about the fight. Now that his brother was safe, it was time for him to leave.
However, just then, the barriers showed up around him, one that surrounded both him and George inside of it.
The falling pieces from the ceiling fell on top of the barrier, not going through it. George reached for the sword next to him and pulled both of them out, holding one in each hand.
"This would’ve all been so simple, had you not shown up," George said. "I would’ve gone free."
"Do you still have a fight in you? Knowing that you’ve broken the rules and you are most likely going to have to go to prison tomorrow?" he asked.
George frowned for a moment before smiling. "That’s what you think," he said. "If I’m going to prison, then I will most certainly die. There is no way someone with my powers is being kept alive."
"So, if I am going to die, I might as well take someone with me," he said, pointing the sword at Stanley.
Stanley frowned a bit. ’Die in prison?’ he thought.
"Also, who knows?" he said. "If I manage to kill you here, I can just say that you two brothers tried to attack me and I was only defending. After your death, it will just be your brother’s words against mine."
