Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 74: Scared

Chapter 74: Scared

Stanley brought the man back to the front of the house where the two others were already waiting for him with two people sitting on the floor with their hands tied up.

Nale for some reason looked awkward as he stood there with his right hand clutching the left side of his chest as if his ribcage had been wounded in a fight.

"Are you guys okay?" Stanley asked while dragging the man to the three. The other man and woman seemed very disappointed with him now that he had been captured.

"Yeah, we’re perfectly fine. No one was harmed," Garry said. "Although, your situation doesn’t seem that way."

Stanley looked at the man he had brought whose cheeks were red and somewhat bleeding as he had scratched his face on the ground while trying to attack him. "There was a small scuffle, but not much," he said. "Although are you sure you guys didn’t fight? Why is he holding his ribcage then?"

"There was a small struggle, that’s it. This man hit him on the side, and when he went to feel it, his hands stuck to his armor with the glue," Garry explained.

"Oh," Stanley looked at Nale. He could now see the somewhat wet shine from his leather armor. "Can you get rid of it?"

"Apparently you need hot water to make it go loose," Nale said. "Dammit, I’ll have to go to the kitchen most likely."

"Alright, let’s bring them back," Garry said and the three dragged the others away. They arrived up a bit up the 4th quadrant, near a location where about 15 or so Defenders were stationed there, along with the old man Sam.

The old man Sam was brought along to nullify the powers of anyone that might be too uncontrollable while captured and the other 15 Defenders were stationed to look after the people they had captured.

There were already about a dozen and a half people captured, with the other 70 people in the field bringing more.

Stanley looked at the people captured and saw that most of them were old, in their 30s or 40s. And they were... trembling?

It wasn’t a particularly cold night, and there didn’t seem to be any reason for them to be so scared. But they were and that surprised Stanley.

Were the Defenders that scary? Was what they were doing so bad that the people they had captured were practically terrified?

The ones they brought hadn’t shown that sort of emotion, so it was somewhat surprising to see that.

Garry seemed to have noticed that as well, so after handing over the 3 and telling which one they needed to nullify, he met up with a person.

"What’s going on? Why are so many of them scared?" Garry asked the man.

"We found 3 corpses, headless," the man said.

"Found?" Garry asked with a surprised look.

The man nodded. "They were dead before the Defenders even got to the warehouse apparently. They were already running away when they got there, and some even gave themselves up on their own," he said.

Garry was somewhat horrified. "Infighting?" he asked. That was the only thing that he could think of which would result in such death.

"No," the man said. "Apparently, a young black-haired girl intruded on their warehouse and killed the 3 people. They said she was going to kill some more, but their boss held her back in the warehouse."

"The boss of the resistance is fighting a girl who killed 3 people?" Garry couldn’t help but repeat as the words coming out of his mouth felt... strange to himself.

The man nodded.

A loud noise caught their attention, which had come from the Warehouse. "There must be a fight brewing; we should have sent more people there. You guys should go too, they may be lacking in manpower," he said.

Garry nodded. He turned around to look at Stanley and Nale. Given how Nale’s right arm was immobilized, he couldn’t be of much help.

"Stanley, let’s go," he said and ran away.

Stanley spent a second more looking at the terrified people and ran away as well.

The original plan had been quite simple. There were 18 different locations in the reports that had been gathered in the last 5 days.

Of the 85 people that they had gathered for the task, nearly 50 had been sent to 17 different places. The remaining people were sent to the warehouse to capture the people in the gathering.

The people that returned from there and the other places came back to this spot either remained here or went to the warehouse to help. Some had to stay back to help Sam, while others were still on the field.

As a result, the number of Defenders going to the Warehouse was most likely being outnumbered.

Stanley heard more shouts, cries, clashes, and many other noises as he got closer and closer to the place where the fights were happening.

Garry saw the first fight, between a Defender and a man who had found a metal rod from somewhere. He jumped into the fight and kicked the man on his arm.

The man went tumbling backward. The Defender on the job, surprisingly one of Stanley’s fellow trainees, thanked Garry and quickly tied the hands of the man with a rope he carried.

"Get him back to the top," Garry shouted at the trainee, who quickly nodded. He hauled the man, going past Stanley who ran past him to arrive next to Garry.

"Find who you can—"

Before Garry could finish his words, another man jumped in and attacked him. He punched Garry right in the face, nearly knocking out Garry in a single hit.

"How dare you hit my brother!" the man shouted.

Stanley was surprised, but he didn’t let the surprise keep him still. He immediately moved, trying to run up to Garry, who the new man was going to attack.

The man didn’t even notice Stanley as in the heat of anger, he raised his leg to smash Garry’s face in.
