Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 243: Garren

Chapter 243: Garren

The man sitting on the table, his legs on the chair, eating an apple was certainly Nova’s brother. He was slightly taller than her, had a thin facial structure like her, was seemingly at best 5 years older than her, and most importantly, he had bright blue hair, just like her.

This was Garren, the Lightning Nova.

He chewed on his bite of apple, watching the four people walk toward them, and grinned as he swallowed the bite. He tossed the apple away and jumped down from where he saw sitting.

His arms spread wide as he walked toward them. "My dear sister! You’ve finally returned," he said, walking close.

Fred and Stanley were ready to fight if needed, but Nova didn’t give any command. "You dare call me your sister still," Nova said with a voice laden with hate. "After what you did to our parents!"

Garren paused, his hands dropping a little before he shrugged. "I did what I had to," he said. "They were becoming too commanding. Too... what’s the word," he snapped a few times. "Full of themselves."

Nova’s face darkened. "You are a goddamn bastard."

"Maybe," Garren said. "But I don’t believe I did anything wrong."

"You... you are a monster too," Nova said. "You don’t even see the wrong in what you’ve done. You killed your parents and you don’t feel any guilt."

"Why should I?" Garren asked. "They shouldn’t have gotten involved in my business. They thought I would let them have their way, controlling the cult that was mine like I was still a young child that needed their help."

Garren scoffed. "They had it coming the moment they refused to let go of their control on the cult," he said.

"And you killed them for it?" Nova asked.

"Yes," Garren said. "What’s so wrong about that? Do you think our parents were good people, sister?"

"I know they weren’t as bad as you," Nova said with a hateful face. "You are a monster they could never have become."

Garren thought for a bit. "You’re not wrong in a way," he said. "But you are wrong in thinking that I’ve done more bad than they ever did. Why do you think I grew as strong as I did? Did you think the clan was just a regular place for people to hang out?"

"You never knew this because they kept it from you, because I asked them to keep it from you," Garren said. "But in the clan grounds, there was a room where every weekend, our parents would execute people that they had kidnapped or captured through the help of the cult."

"And I would have to be there to absorb their souls as they died. I am a monster, but I am not comparable when it comes to our parents," Garren said. ’Not yet at least."

A small smile tugged the side of his lips.

Nova’s eyes were wide. "No!" she said. "You’re lying. Our parents could never do this. They were good people. They would never—"

She didn’t know whether the words were true or not, but she refused to believe it all in the slightest. The many strings wrapped around her body ripped away at once form her body, many scattering to shoot at her brother.

At the same time, Fred acted as well. He brought out guns and shot as soon as it was out of its holster. The bullet hit Garren before the threads did. He was pushed back before another bullet hit him.

Then the threads reached him, digging into his body when another bullet hit him. The threads fully penetrated and bound him into the ground when the fourth bullet hit.

When the fifth bullet hit him, he was no longer standing.

Fred paused for a moment, looking at his own hands. "Shit!" he cried out. He was not supposed to be attacking the Nova here. He was supposed to be protecting his boss, and yet...

He turned around to see Stanley doing nothing. He was about to cry out at him when he saw that the people around the room hadn’t moved at all.

"What’s... going on?" Fred asked. He looked around.

Stanley was looking around as well, worried. He had been ready to attack along with Nova and Fred, but his future sight had shown no reason for him to move. None of the subordinates of the Lightning Nova did.

"Something is wrong," he said silently. "They’re not worried at all."

"And they are right to not worry," Garren spoke aloud. "Damn, this does hurt a bit." He let his body drag along the metal wires, slowly standing up wound bloody trails left behind on the golden threads.

He yanked the last few wires from his back and finally got up straight. "Phew! I had heard you had gotten stronger after you went through the blessing, but this is something else. Congratulations, sister."

Nova’s eyes went wide. "How are you still alive?" she asked.

"Why wouldn’t I be?" Garren asked before making an exaggerated impression of realizing something. "OH! You thought I would die just because I was pierced through my body. I’m afraid little sister, but you don’t know half the power I have. I’ve just never had to show them to you."

Nova’s face was filled with shock. The shock grew bigger when she saw sparks of lightning on her brother’s wounds that slowly closed them. She had no idea he could heal himself.

He had never been hurt enough to show this to her.

"Don’t worry, sister," Garren said. "I’ll forgive you for trying to kill me. I understand."

Nova palpitated in fear of what was coming.

"But you—" Garren turned his head toward Fred at the side. "You shouldn’t have done that."

A single bright white flash of light burned everyone’s vision as they were forced to close their eyes. The sound wasn’t as strong as the light was and when the light disappeared, Nova quickly turned to look at Fred.

He wasn’t there at all. Instead, he was a few meters away from where he stood, and next to him was Stanley who had moved him away in time, saving his life.
