Chapter 242: Suspicious
Chapter 242: Suspicious
Big names from the criminal society, inside and outside of Voras, had gathered in the Paramox hall today, to see what it was that the Nova of the Azure Clan was going to announce.
The four of them huddled in a corner, waiting for the party to get underway so that they could do their thing as well.
Stanley held onto the suitcase that held the net gun. The moment Nova asked for it, he would shoot it at her brother. He looked at the time again.
12:33
When was the announcement going to happen again? At 1? He vaguely remembered the schedule that had been given to them. Since the schedule had nothing to do with them, they hadn’t bothered to remember it much.
Nova looked around, recognizing a handful of people. Some ministers, senators, merchants, gang lords, and other people had big hands in the underworld scene. She continued looking around.
"What the hell is going on?" she couldn’t help but silently speak.
"What? What’s going on?" Fred asked frantically.
"I don’t recognize many people here," she said nervously.
Fred didn’t understand what she meant. "So? I don’t recognize many except for maybe 2 people," he said. "Isn’t that normal?"
"This is a party created by the Azure Clan and I don’t recognize anyone. Do you understand what that means?" Nova asked.
Fred paused for a bit. "The clan has more people now that you don’t recognize?" he asked.
"Hardly," Nova answered. "It’s more likely... that none of the clan members are here at all."
Fred frowned, and Stanley looked worried. "What does that mean?" Stanley asked. He looked around. "Do you recognize nobody from your clan?"
"None," Nova said. "What the hell is going on?"
Stanley worried even more now. No security, no clan members. What was going on here?
"Do you think this is a trap of some sort?" Fred asked. "We will need to leave if this is a trap."
Stanley looked around. None of the other people seemed to find anything amiss. They were all happily grabbing food off the plates handed to them by robots, merrily chattering to themselves.
No one had noticed that the clan members weren’t here at all.
"What if this is a plot to kill all of the clan’s enemies at once?" Fred asked, worrying the two others. "Kill the entire underworld, make yourself the king of it. Right? That makes sense right?"
Stanley worried. That did make some sense. Especially with the evidence they had gathered.
"We should leave right guys?" Fred asked. "We should definitely leave."
He was the first one to walk out of the group but was immediately stopped as someone big appeared in front of him.
He took a step or two back before looking up at the man who was a head or two taller than him. Fred was of average height, nothing short, so the fact that he was so much taller than him still made him feel scared.
"Who?" he had leaned his head upward to look at the man.
The man had a squarish face with thick facial hair that was as long as the hair on his head. There was a cross-shaped scar on the left side of his forehead and a burn mark on the left side of his neck that crept up to his cheeks. It was suspiciously in the shape of a lightning strike.
"Hey dude, can you move?" Fred asked.
But the man said nothing. "Princess," the man said in a hoarse voice, his eyes staring at Nova. "We have been waiting for you."
Stanley’s hands clutched on his guitar carelessly, ready to attack if needed. If someone was calling Nova princess, then it was most likely a person from the Azure Clan.
Fred was about to reach for his guns when something grabbed onto his hands. He looked down and saw golden metallic strings wrapping around his arms. He looked at Nova, who shook her head.
"He’s not alone," she said, looking around her.
Looking around, they noticed people staring at them that hadn’t been there before. Fred frowned.
Stanley started seeing the future to make sure nothing bad happened to them. "What now?" he asked Nova softly.
Nova didn’t say anything. "I didn’t expect you to come, Ogre," she said, looking at the big man. "How did you know I was here?"
"We are the Azure Clan, and you are our princess," the man said. "How could we not know where you have been and what you’ve been doing? Hey Sol!"
"Ogre," Sol spoke calmly.
Nova frowned. She looked around at the group and then at the people in the party who were clearly focused on them. She wasn’t sure how they could fight them all right here.
"What do we do?" Stanley whispered.
"No point in whispering," Nova said. "They can hear us clearly. That guy over there can hear the faintest of sounds when he’s paying attention to something. They have likely heard everything we’ve spoken about in the last few minutes."
The big man named Ogre said nothing but only continued smiling.
"So, what now?" she asked.
"The young lord is waiting for you," the man said. "If you will follow me, you and your little group of friends, we will take you to the young lord."
Ogre turned around before stopping and looking back at Stanely and Fred. "If you do anything suspicious, we will kill you." Then he walked away.
Nova followed him, and behind her the others.
Stanley saw nothing amiss with his future sight, but he still continued using it, just on the off chance. He would be alerted with his future sight if he was being attacked, but for others, it didn’t work like that.
It only worked for his brother, and was most likely because he cared for him so much.
They were taken outside the hall, through a hallway, and to an adjacent room where the staff gathered. Only there were no human staff here at all. All robots.
The only human here was a blue-haired man, the one they all recognized to be the lightning Nova.
