Chapter 244: Situation Worsening
Chapter 244: Situation Worsening
Stanley looked at the Lightning Nova, the spark of electricity on his fingers that still crackled with sparks. He looked at Fred next, the man on the ground with a large push.
"Fight!" he shouted. There was no time to wait anymore. He looked around for his weapon; he had left it where he previously stood. He needed to get to it.
An electric spark filled his vision with a bright flash.
"Not so fast," Garren’s voice came to Stanley from behind him.
Stanley felt his heart palpitate. When had he gotten behind him? He was in front of him just a moment before.
Stanley turned to punch, but the Lightning Nova seemed to have seen it coming and used his hands to try and parry the strike. However, he had underestimated Stanley’s force.
The punch landed right on the man’s chest, but where Stanley expected to see a hole blown out, he only saw a glowing shield that slowly dimmed.
’What?’ he looked a little surprised. ’Dammit! He activated his shield?’
It seemed he wasn’t planning on getting hurt anymore. One time was enough.
Garren gave a surprised expression as well. He realized that he had lost a majority of his shield’s strength in that single attack. It could maybe hold up for a few more punches, but after that, he would start getting hurt.
He didn’t want to get hurt. Getting hurt meant having to use his Soul Energy to heal. He didn’t want that. Still, the punch had surprised him.
A flash of light and he disappeared arriving some distance away. This time, he had a contemplative look on his face.
’Fuck,’ he cried out internally. ’He can fucking teleport too? This was not in the briefing at all.’
Stanley didn’t intend to give the lightning Nova any time to consider. He rushed back to his sword, but someone was in the process of grabbing it all. At the same time, the man they called Ogre was standing in between.
Stanley didn’t pause and punched. The ground shook on impact as Stanley hit with the force of two cars crashing against each other at high speed. And yet it did nothing to this man either.
Stanley looked up, expecting to see a glowing shield around him as well, but this time it didn’t exist. This man had taken his punch with just his body.
"Dammit!" he cried out loud, and quickly turned around, grabbing Nova who couldn’t figure out what was happening around her. Everything was too bright and loud and instantaneous.
Stanley wasn’t sure about the loud and instant, but he needed it all to be bright.
"Sol!" he shouted. "Use your powers!" He pulled Nova to the side pulling her to the ground, covering his eyes and her own. He hoped Fred did so too, but he didn’t have the time to care for it.
Sol’s light was just too bright and he had to be ready for it. He nearly dug out Nova’s eyes with how hard to pushed his fingers around her face to block her vision.
He waited for a second, but he saw no light. No matter how tight he was blocking his vision, there would be some light. It wouldn’t be much, but it would be enough to have him see the red in his eyelids and fingers, no matter how hard he had them pressed.
However, currently, he saw nothing.
Someone laughed in the distance.
Stanley opened his eyes.
Another laughter, this time to his left.
He was confused.
Two more laughter to the front.
He let go of Nova and stood up.
Then a whole host of other laughter including one from Garren filled the open hall. They all laughed, mockingly as some even pointed at them.
Fred stood up too, confused. He looked at Stanley and Nova, and then at Sol.
"Sol! Why didn’t you use your powers?" he asked.
Sol didn’t say anything, and the laughter continued.
"Sol?" Stanley asked as well. He didn’t answer. "SOL!"
"They’re calling for you, Sol," the Lightning Nova said with a grin on his face.
Nova looked at her brother and then at Sol. "You! Why aren’t you doing anything?" she asked.
"I’m sorry, young miss. I cannot do what you tell me to do," Sol said. "I was only told to follow your words while you were away from the Young lord, not after."
"Sol, step aside," Garren said.
"As you say, young lord," the big man said and stepped to the side.
Nova watched in horror as Sol moved aside. Her eyes widened as she understood the situation. "You... you said you followed me because you no longer liked how the clan handled things," she said. "Was that... a lie?"
"Yes, princess," Sol said. "That was a lie."
Nova’s face twisted with hatred. "You bastard!" she said out loud. "I thought you were my friend, and you... you bastard, you were a spy for my brother?"
"Oh, yeah. I always knew what you were doing," Garren said. "Don’t be angry at Sol though, he was only following my orders, keeping you safe while letting you think you were free."
Both Stanley and Fred were deeply offended to learn that they had been betrayed at the final stretch. To think that they were together with Sol and called him their friend.
"What should we do with the two, young lord?" Ogre asked. "I don’t know about the other one, but this kid is strong. It would be better if we have him join us."
"Right, he’s strong," Garren said. "Ben! Where’s Ben?"
"Here, young lord," a thin man stepped out from the side.
"Ben, check that kid," Garren ordered.
Stanley and Fred didn’t understand what was happening, but it seemed Nova did. She frowned but said nothing.
The man stared at Stanley for a few seconds and his eyes widened with each passing seconds. "Young lord!" he cried out in surprise. "He- he-" he frantically spoke.
"What? Spit it out," Garren said.
"His Soul energy," the man shouted. "It is nearly as high as yours."
