Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 240: Brother

Chapter 240: Brother

Stanley needed to know why Nova was doing what she was doing. He looked at her, about to ask the question when Fred did it before him.

"Why?" he asked. "Why do you want to kill your brother?"

Stanley nodded, adding his own intentions to know the answer to the question.

Nova looked at the two and thought for a moment as to how exactly to answer that question. "Remember what I promised you two when you two joined? What I would give to you once we are done."

"Yes," Fred said. "You said I would get my powers evolved."

Stanley looked at Fred in surprise. He had no idea that it was the same reason why Fred was here as well. All this time, he had imagined that he had simply been there from the start of the group’s making, and had never actually asked how Nova had got them.

"To get your power, you have to kill a few people in order to use their soul energy to improve yours," Nova said. "The more you do, the more you improve."

The two of them listened carefully.

"In my case, I am not aware how many people were killed to use their soul energy on me. I was reluctant to get the power at all, so I was made unconscious before my powers were forcefully evolved. When I woke up, I learned of two of the victims amongst the people who had died to give me their powers."

"My father and my mother."

Bother Stanley and Fred sucked in cold breaths at those words. They could see Nova visibly shaking at the memories, her hands wanting to grab onto something but only finding themselves, her lips quivering in fear and anger.

"And your brother..." Fred urged her to answer.

"My brother was the one that made that happen," Nova said. "He knew his position in the clan did not hold as much sway with our parents alive, so he made sure to kill them."

Stanley could only sit there in shock. He hadn’t expected to get close to someone who had gone through something this intense in their family. Nothing like this would’ve ever happened to someone in his town. This was just... too intense for him.

And now, they were going to kill her brother? He wasn’t sure if he wanted to agree to this or not. After all, he did not wish to kill someone that was innocent.

But then again, if he had killed his own parents for his standing in a cult, then... Stanley didn’t think he would find it particularly hard to see a man of his sort die.

Fred’s mind was on another thing it seemed. "Say we do kill him, wouldn’t the Nova of your clan send someone after us or something?" he asked.

"No, they won’t," Nova said.

"But your brother was someone important to the clan right?" Fred asked. "If his standing improved since your parent’s death then... won’t his death bring us trouble? Especially to us outsiders that have zero connection with your clan."

"If we manage to kill my brother, afterward nothing will happen to you," Nova said.

"Are you absolutely sure though?" Fred asked. "You can’t tell anything with these Novas. They aren’t always in the right mind I hear."

"I’m sure," Nova said. "If we kill my brother, you will have no Nova to worry about."

Fred sighed a relief. "Fine, I’ll trust you then. I’ll—" he paused for a moment when the words fell into place in his mind. His eyes slightly widened and looked at Nova, who was looking back at him with a knowing look.

"No..." Fred said, disbelieving. "You’re lying."

Nova shook her head. "I’m afraid that is the truth," she said.

Stanley sighed to the side as well. He had come to realize just what was happening as well. Only Vera seemed confused.

"I’m sorry, what is going on?" she asked.

Fred looked toward her. "Do you not realize? Did she not tell you when she sent you to search for stuff?" he asked.

"I was told to look out for any information on her brother, Garren as well as the Azure Clan I could find," Vera said. "That is all I knew when I got started. Why? What did I miss?"

"Apparently quite a lot," Stanley said. "The person you are searching for is not just her brother. He’s not a nobody."

"Her brother... is the Nova of the Azure Clan," Fred answered and immediately grimaced. Just saying it out loud got him annoyed beyond belief. "Dammit, are we really going to fight a Nova?"

"You won’t do the fighting," Nova reminded. "I will be doing the fighting. You’ll just take care of his lackeys."

"A Nova’s lackeys. They are going to be the best of the best of the cult, aren’t they?" Fred asked. "We can’t fight them. Just 2 months ago, I was a petty hitman working for a few credits. How am I supposed to go against people of a cult?"

"I am their princess," Nova said. "With me there, they won’t do anything to you."

"While you try to kill their master? Sorry if I find it a little difficult to believe your words right now," Fred said.

"What powers does he have?" Stanley asked suddenly.

"Come on, John," Fred said. "Surely you’re not still considering this. This is a Nova we’re talking about. Even with your strength, you’ll never beat him."

Stanley ignored Fred and continued staring at Nova for an answer. Nova considered for a second and answered him.

"Lightning," she said. "He can control electricity."

"And can we catch him?" Stanley asked.

"We have those plasma nets we bought a few weeks ago," Nova reminded them. "That was for this purpose."

"Are we doomed if he dodges that?" Stanley asked.

"He won’t," Nova said. "Not when we have this fellow doing the shooting." She gestured to Fred.

Fred stood in shock as he realized that he was a crucial part of the plot to kill a Nova.

"Seems like you’ve thought about it enough," Stanley said. "So, what exactly can this Lightning Nova do?"
