Chapter 223: The Gangs Gathered
Chapter 223: The Gangs Gathered
Harvesh, the current leader of the Yorfa gang, couldn’t help but still give a confused expression when he heard Nova’s words.
"You wish to tell them that they have a new leader?" he asked suspiciously.
"Yes," Nova said freely.
"Surely you don’t mean yourself, correct?" he asked.
"I do mean myself," Nova said. "Who else would I mean?" she asked.
"But..." the white-haired man seemed unable to process what he was being told. "You are the new boss of the 3 gangs you mentioned?"
"I am," Nova said. "Honestly, I can’t really understand what is so surprising about it."
"How could it not be surprising?" the man asked. "If what you are saying is true, then four of the seven greatest gangs in Fourex City have just had a new leader. That is going to change the entire dynamic of the Low’s underground structure."
"How did you become the leader of the other 3 gangs?" he asked. He then leaned into her ears and whispered, "Did Boss Cooper manage to convince the other great bosses to give your their position?"
Nova smiled a bit. "I am sensing something fun with your ignorance here," she said.
"My... ignorance?" the white-haired Harvesh asked with a weird look on his face. "Surely you aren’t going to say that you are the new boss of the Glitchers, Matrix Runners, and Codebreakers too, right?"
"No," Nova said simply. "I am not their leader. But I do intend to be one soon. I just need to kill their leaders and a few subordinates that don’t accept me taking over their gangs. Of course, I will require your help too then."
The man looked at her as if he was looking at a psycho. "Attacking the other 3 gangs? You want to start a gang war?" he asked.
"Gang wars?" Nova said with an exaggerated look of surprise on her face. "Surely not."
"Good," the man said. "Because that would be—"
"I mean it would never be a gang war in the first place," she mentioned. "War implies that the two sides are on somewhat of an equal footing in the fight. This is going to be a one-sided destruction."
"So you really do intend to start a fight against the other 3," he said with an unbelieving face. He could believe that she was going to start a fight. What he didn’t believe was that someone so reckless could exist out there.
"So, what was that about me being ignorant?" he asked. "If what I said is not what I know then... there much be something else going on, right?"
"Why were you surprised when I said that I was the leader of the Flintlockers, Gunblazers, and Demonsapwns?" she asked.
"Because it’s surprising for someone to suddenly become the boss of not one big gang, but 4 in the same day," he said.
"I understand that surprise," Nova said. "But why were you surprised that they had a change in leadership when it just happened to you."
"Uh... because it is weird for four gangs to have a change in leadership at once," the man said.
Nova smiled a bit and asked, "Who is the boss of the Demonspawns?"
The man thought for a bit. "Do you mean the leader or the one above that?" he asked.
"I mean the person that is to them who Cooper was to you," she said.
"I..." the man was about to answer, but he was kept made to stop and keep thinking about it. "I don’t know the name, but it is someone big. I think it is some senator."
"These sort of big figures like to keep their identity a mystery, so I haven’t bothered asking around. I don’t want assassins being pulled up on me," he said.
"Understandable," Nova said. "So I assumed you know nothing about the Flintlockers and Gunblazers’ boss either."
The man shook his head. "Why are you asking me that?" he asked.
"Because I’m gonna pull the veil that was over your eyes the whole time that you never even knew was there," Nova said. "Cooper was the boss of not just you, but the Demonspawns, Flintlockers, and Gunblazers this entire time."
"Wh- what?" the man asked, confused as to whether he heard what he heard correctly or not. Cooper was the boss of not just them, but also the other four?
"That’s... how is that possible?" the young man asked.
"How often do you meet Cooper?" he asked.
"Maybe twice a year. Once he comes here and once I go to him to give updates," he said thoughtlessly.
"I see," Nova said. "Plenty of freedom to keep up the facade that you are only the gang he is a part of. Quite the old man he is."
"You can confirm that he is indeed the boss of all four of us?" the man asked Nova.
"Not is. Was," she said, showing her watch that gave her the details about all four gangs. "Now. Can you gather the other four gangs? I would rather address everyone at once instead of wasting my time telling everyone the same thing."
"We can do the tour of the lair when we are free," Nova said.
"Sure," the man said, still stunned, and made some calls.
Within half an hour, all the different bosses of the four gangs were seated on a table, across from each other.
The White-haired Harvest sat with his leg perched on top of another, his flip flops waving at the face of someone that should have clearly been his rival in the business, but somehow wasn’t.
The other man was a 2-meter-tall giant with broad shoulders and heavy muscles. He was bald and wore a leather jacket with a shiny black exterior. There were sharp metal spikes coming out of every seam of the jacket making the man look scary.
What was even more ominous was the face on his right shoulder. A red humanoid face with pitch-black eyes, teeth that were as sharp as that of an animal, and horns like that of a goat.
This was Demonhead, leader of the Demonspawns.
On the other side was a woman with long pants and a short top that barely came to her navel. She wore a large, thick hat, and on her body were two shiny metal guns like polished silver.
Unlike normal guns that used plasmium, this one used something from the old days known as gunpowder.
This was Aleone, leader of the flintlockers.
Finally, the other man was a short man with pitch-black hair, wearing a formal suit and tie, seemingly the most respectful of them all. However, anyone who knew him knew that he was one of the most violent men out there.
He was someone with no power at all, but at the slightest bit of discourse, he would bring out the many guns that he had hidden around his body and shoot the person he didn’t like long after they were dead.
He had been alone named the Gunblazer, and after a few people gathered next to him to make use of him, they became the Gunblazers.
Each one of them was currently looking at the other with the slightest bit of disgust and anger. They had just found out that they were all going to be working together, and with the history they had, that was impossible.
"Can you please explain to us what is going on?" the Demonspawn asked Nova, who was sitting at another side of the table with her 3 people beside her.
"I don’t hear what I should be hearing," Nova said, smiling at the man.
The man frowned for a moment, slightly confused at what she was supposed to be hearing before realizing something. He sighed and bit and reiterated his question.
"Can you please explain to us what is going on, BOSS?!" he said.
Nova smiled. "Certainly, my dear subordinate," she said with a deliberately crazy smile. "Here’s the long version in short."
"I need to be the biggest gangster in the city," Nova said. "So, I decided to attack the gangs and be one. I was gonna wait until I came for you lot, but yesterday, Cooper sent assassins after me because he thought I was his daughter’s killer."
"Assassins?" Aleone couldn’t help but ask in surprise.
"Yes, and not just any. The best of the best. The Black Lake Assasins," Nova said. "Needless to say, we defeated them and this morning we went to find Cooper and threatened him to hand over this gang."
"And voila, I am your leader now," she said.
The four couldn’t help but look at each other in surprise and confusion.
"Is that... really all?" the big man asked.
"That is all," Nova said. "And yes, you are now free from Cooper. I doubt you need his assistance to keep the gang running right? You should be self-sustaining now."
"We are," the white-haired man said. "I still don’t understand why Cooper didn’t just tell us that we were under the same person. So many of the deaths that our people suffered in battle would’ve been completely avoidable."
"It’s obvious, isn’t it?" the man only known as the Gunblazer said. "If we four knew that we were under each other, we would’ve worked together to make our lives better."
"Sooner rather than later, we would’ve come together to become just one single gang. 4 against 3, we would have eradicated the other 3 gangs and soon we would’ve been the only gang in the entire Low."
"And I fear that Cooper was afraid of that very thing happening, and that would be exactly when we would’ve cut him off and started working for ourselves."
