Chapter 205: Joining the Gang
Chapter 205: Joining the Gang
"You can do what?" Stanley asked softly.
"Improve your power," the girl said. "Make you far stronger than you are right now."
"How is that possible?" Stanley asked.
"It is," the girl said. "I had it done on me, and it feels like I have an entirely different power now."
"How?" Stanley asked.
"There is someone that can do that," the girl said.
"Who?" Stanley asked.
"You don’t know them," Nova said. "Hell, I hardly know about them at all. To find them, we will have to kill our way into the upper echelon of the Voras underworld. So, you in, John?"
Stanley thought for a bit. "Are you sure my powers can increase?" he asked. "If you’re lying to me—"
"You can kill me," Nova said. "Is that enough?"
Stanley stared at her, looking into her deep blue eyes before nodding. "Sure, I’ll join your gang then," he said, acting as if he wasn’t thrilled to enter someone that had a direct connection with what his mission was about.
"Welcome to Blue Oasis," Nova said, turning around to present her hands for a shake.
Stanley shook her hand and nodded.
"I’m sure we’ll do great together, John," she said and turned around.
"Good to have you on the team, young brother," Sol said as well.
Stanley sat back. ’John,’ he thought. He had to get used to that name. He was sure that wouldn’t be a problem given that he had memories of John.
"Where are we going?" Stanley asked.
"We are going to Fourex City," Nova said. "That’s where our current base is set up, but I’m sure we will move onto bigger places."
"Fourex City?" Stanley asked, opening his watch to check through the map. "Oh, we’re going past the Gargarnax city?"
"Yes," Nova said.
"Do you want to stop by?" Sol asked. "I can stop if you want me to."
"No," Stanley said. "I... I was just on my way to the city is all. I wanted to find a new job, get a new life. But... I guess this life doesn’t leave you behind."
"You say that like you’ve seen some shit," Nova said.
"I’ve seen shit you wouldn’t believe," Stanley said, remembering the chaos of his town. The large crowd, the uncountable monsters, the death of his friends and family, and a girl who was closer to being the incarnation of death himself.
Sol turned around. "It’ll be alright," he said. "You’re starting a new life now."
"New life, huh?" Stanley said. "With the same old shit."
"Don’t worry," Nova said. "This will be way better shit."
The car flew for a while and Nova pulled up the device on her lap to show something. "Look, you’re kinda famous," she said, showing a scene from the bus he had gotten onto.
It didn’t show much except when the grapplers grabbed onto the back of the bus, and then it all went blank. It was as if someone had something to destroy the cameras.
"There are other angles, but most don’t really capture the fight all that well. The clearest is you sitting there on the bus still," she said.
"I see," Stanley said. "Is that going to be a problem for the gang?" he asked.
"For us? Hell no. The more notoriety we have, the better," she said. "Well as long as it’s not bad enough that they start creating a task force to hunt us down, but that’s unlikely. There are much bigger fish than us in the other gangs, and they haven’t had anything done to them at all."
"Okay, so how many people do we have in our gang? I hope it’s more than just us 3," Stanley said.
"Are you joking, John?" Nova asked. "Why would I form a gang with just Sol and Me? Of course, we’re not the only ones."
"Oh, that’s good," Stanley said.
"There are 2 more," Sol answered.
"That’s... not very good," Stanley said. "Don’t you need like at least a dozen men or something at least? How does a gang work with just 5 people?"
"Hehe, I was about to make it work with just 4. 5 is a luxury," Nova said. "Anyway, it’s quite easy. We don’t have to be big from the start, we just have to get bigger along the way."
"Just you wait, I have it all planned out," Nova said. "In a month, I’m gonna be the greatest gang leader in all of Voras. And you, my friend, are going to become one of my four main subordinates."
Stanley sighed. He wasn’t sure what she had planned, but as long as it got him to the power that was hidden inside of Voras, he was all for it.
The three flew for a while and Stanley saw a city pass to his right. Passing the city, the land started getting slightly white with sparse snow.
The temperature inside the car hadn’t changed, but Stanley was sure it must have gotten colder outside.
The snow reminded him of the snow back in his town. It would have been around this time back in his town when the snow would be at its thickest. He remembered working in the cold, shoveling snow from his backyard to make way for his mother to the stream of water next to the fields.
He remembered the snowball fights he had with his brother, who would always cheat by using his technique just as the snowball was about to hit him.
He leaned onto the side of the car, smiling a little as he remembered those memories.
His reminiscence didn’t last very long as a police car flew to their left and someone spoke through the speaker.
"Pull over!"
Nova frowned a bit. "Wait, do you have some technology on you?" she turned around toward Stanley.
"Tech? I have this watch," Stanley said before realizing what had happened.
"Shit!" he said. "Did I bring them here?"
Nova nodded and then cracked a smile. "No worries," she said with a mysterious smile. "We’ll be just fine."
