Chapter 204: Nova
Chapter 204: Nova
Stanley frowned a little. "Join you?" he asked. "Who are you guys?"
"Hmm? Oh right! I am Nova," the girl said. "And this is Sol."
Stanley’s eyes narrowed immediately when he heard the girl. "You’re a Nova?" he asked, wondering why she was telling him at all.
"Did I say that?" she asked Stanley with a raised eyebrow.
Sol laughed out loud when he heard the two interacting. "That is the response everyone gives when they hear her name," he said.
Stanley thought for a moment and finally reacted. "Oh! That’s your name?" he asked.
"Yes, that is my name," Nova said. "My parents were members of a cult that thought naming me Nova would somehow make me a Nova. There are quite a few like those, aren’t there?"
"There sure are," Sol said. "There was this man named Nova in my school class. Everyone wondered why he was named that. Turned out, his parents were members of the Blood Cult."
"Argh! The blood cult," Nova said. "Didn’t they all die like 7 years ago?"
"Yeah, their Blood Nova went crazy or something," Sol said. "Honestly, it’s hard to get any information about that event. Everything is so under wraps."
Nova nodded to herself true.
Stanley frowned a little. "I haven’t exactly been answered, you know?" he said. "Your names aren’t enough."
"Huh? Oh right," Nova said. "We are members of the Blue Oasis gang. I am the leader and he is my right-hand man."
Stanley frowned. "And you want me to join you?" he asked.
"Yes," the girl said. "Join us, or we’ll send you to the cops."
Stanley frowned. He was about to threaten them when suddenly the two of them started laughing out loud.
Both Sol and Nova seemed to find whatever was happening to be the funniest thing ever as they laughed uncontrollably.
Stanley could only stay back and watch the maniacs have their fun.
"Alright, alright, enough laughing," the girl said. "I really want you to join my gang."
"I don’t want to join any gang. I’m not a person who will easily join a gang," he said.
"Even though your whole life you’ve been in the slums, stealing and looting from others?" the girl asked.
"That was different. I was forced by my circumstances. Now that I am no longer in the slum, I will do what I want to," Stanley said, slightly surprised at how quickly he was able to answer without even thinking much.
Having memories that weren’t yours sure helped when he had to make up random explanations for things.
He paused for a moment and looked at the girl. "Wait, in the first place. How do you know I’m from a slum?" he asked. That was not something he would tell anyone.
’Can she read my mind or something?’ Stanley thought. If that was the case then he was probably in more of a trouble with what else he had already thought of.
"Read minds? I’m not a telepath," she said. She lifted the device on her lap that was out of Stanley’s sight and showed it to him. "I searched your face and this showed up."
Stanley looked at it and there was a criminal record of him stealing from someone and being caught. In fact, there were multiple such records.
Stanley couldn’t help but be surprised that Caleb had already gotten to work and inserted so much into the internet for the others to find.
"So, here is the complicated information," she said.
"I am looking for people that I can have to join my gang so we can make a name for ourselves. If you don’t want that, just let me know. But if you join us, I can guarantee you that without a shadow of a doubt, I will make us one of the greatest gangs in all of United Voras, to the point that the folks in the big leagues will no longer be able to ignore us."
"When we finally get noticed, I will find my way to someone," Nova said, her voice growing cold. "When I do... I will kill that person."
Stanley heard her quietly, thinking to himself what he should do right now. Even as he thought, Nova continued.
"You are from the slum, so I assume you struggle to find anything. For god’s sake, you took a bus, didn’t you? How much money do you have? Is it enough to keep you going for a long time?" she asked.
Stanley shook his head. "Not much," he simply said.
"I will pay you money," she said. "I will feed you, I will give you a place to stay. In return, I hope you will give me your power to beat off every other gang. Will you?"
Stanley thought for a moment. "Who exactly is this person you want to kill?" he asked.
"I can’t tell you," Nova said.
Stanley nodded and asked, "Will I have to kill this person?"
"No, I will be the one to kill him," she said. "You will just have to help me become big enough that he can’t ignore me any longer."
"You can’t do it yourself?" Stanley asked.
"Not fast enough," Nova said. "I was planning on doing it myself of course. But since I found you, I can improve the time even more."
Staley still wasn’t sure whether to accept or not. In the first place, what if the members of the association thought that he had gone rogue and came to kill him?
There were things happening here that he wanted to stop. At that point, the mission would be over.
"If you join me, I can promise you one more thing when I get my revenge," Nova said. "The day after I kill the man, I will give you the biggest gift you can ever get."
Stanley got a little curious. "What gift?" he asked.
"A gift that you surely can’t deny," Nova said. "I will take you to a place where you will have your powers evolved to the highest possible realm."
