Chapter 206: The Low
Chapter 206: The Low
Nova didn’t seem to be worried at all, and neither was Sol in the least. She turned toward Sol and said, "Sol, do you mind?"
"Right away, boss!" he said and hit a button to lower the window on his side.
"Pull over!" the police said once again.
"Eat shit!" Sol shouted before pointing his palm in the police’s direction.
Nova quickly turned to the other side and said. "Close your eyes!"
Stanley didn’t even think and quickly closed his eyes as soon as the advice. Then, he saw a bright light, even with his eyes closed.
He had to turn to the other side to hide the light from his eyes. He couldn’t believe how bright it was.
The light died down a second or two later. When it was gone, Stanley opened his eyes and found that they took a while to get adjusted.
"Shit! I forgot how cold it is here," Sol said, closing the window suddenly.
Nova turned around and smiled, "Good job."
Sola grinned in her direction and finally took off the sunglasses that he had been wearing all this time. "Well, this is useless," he said, tossing it onto the deck in front of him.
"We’ll buy you better ones soon," Nova said.
Sol nodded and turned around. "Are you okay?" he asked.
Stanley looked at Sol and was about to nod when he noticed that of his two eyes, one was brown in color, and the other was completely clouded with something white from the inside.
"Your eyes..." Stanley said softly.
"Hmm? Oh yeah," Sol said. "Lost them as a child when I accidentally used my powers for the first time while pointing my palm directly at my eyes."
"I see," Stanley said.
"Give me that!" Nova quickly reached for his arm and ripped his watch from his arm.
"Hey! What are yo—"
Before he could say anything, Nova struck it on the deck of the car a few times, breaking the watch.
Stanley’s eyes were wide. "What are you doing?!" he shouted.
"They found you because of this. We can’t let them find it," she said.
"But... my account is there. All my money is there," Stanley said.
"How much was there?" Nova asked before shaking her head. "No, however much it was, you can’t use it anymore. If you do they will find you right away."
Stanley frowned a bit. "What do I do about my money then?" he asked.
"I will..." she thought for a bit.
"I know a guy," Sol said. "He can hook you up with some fake accounts with some money. You can use those once we reach the Fourex City."
"Oh... okay," Stanley said. "If that works then sure."
Sol nodded and continued flying the car.
Stanley looked at the man and got a little curious. "Can you see properly with that other eye?" he asked.
"I have problems at night, and in low light area," he said. "But other than that I am fine."
"And those glasses?" Stanley asked. "What are those about? Why can’t you use them anymore?"
"My hands produce so much light that they overwhelm the polarization of those glasses that they don’t work after a single use. The next time, they aren’t capable of blocking as much light at all," he said.
"Is that how the glasses work?" Stanley asked.
"It’s how my powers work," Sol said with a shrug.
"I see," Stanley said. He wanted to learn more but the car suddenly took a dive downward. For a moment, Stanley thought that the car had gone out of control, but it turned out that it was in fact not the case.
"We are here," Sol said, driving amidst the bright white snowy land. "We’re in Fourex City."
Stanley looked toward the front of and saw a magnificent city with tall buildings. Many different holograms filled the city all over while the building tops were covered in snow.
The car merged into the lane and entered the city after a while.
Stanley looked around for a while, looking at the many people that went about their own life. Neon lights filled the street, with gray skyscrapers filling one’s view.
Cars and other vehicles both drove and flew without a care in the world.
The car he was on took a turn after a while, moving to a side of the city that he could only describe as ’less professional’.
"What is this place?" Stanley asked, looking around.
"The worst part of the city, the Low," Nova said as the care drove to a side of the road.
Nova gathered her freely flowing blue hair and tucked it inside of her clothes at the back. Then, she put on her hood and walked out of the car.
Stanley got out as well, carrying his guitar case.
Nova held onto her hood and looked at the guitar case before asking, "Why a guitar case?"
"Its the only thing I could find that could fit my sword and not break apart," Stanley said.
"Why do you say that?" Nova asked.
Stanley dropped his guitar case to the ground and gestured Nova to pick it up. Nova was a little surprised, but she shrugged. She was more than happy to try.
She knelt down and tried to lift the guitar case only to find out that it was so incredibly heavy.
"Goddamn! How do you carry such a thing?" she asked.
"Easily," Stanley said, lowing to pick it up effortlesslly, surprising Nova. Even Sol who went to the back of the car to get something was quite surprised.
"Wow! You must be really strong to be able to move that fast, John," she said. "And here I thought you were just fast in general. I’m even more excited to have you in my team now."
Stanley gave a smirk.
"Alright," Sol said, bringing something heavy right next to Stanley. "Can you help me carry this then?"
Stanley looked at the heavy luggage and picked it up effortlessly. "What is this?" he asked, realizing that it was just as heavy as his guitar case.
Sol put on his old sunglasses and said, "Ammunitions."
