Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 115: Gone

Chapter 115: Gone

"I must ask you to let him go."

Freddy’s sword was pointed toward Yasu, which surprised each one of them. They had not expected him to be here to rescue Stanley, instead of capturing him.

"I’m afraid that’s not possible," Yasu said as he pulled out his own sword. "I can understand your intention of helping a friend, but you cannot break the rules as a Defender, young man. You should know the law comes before anything."

"I don’t care," Freddy said and attacked.

He dashed for Yasu, attacking the moment he got close. Yasu dodged the first attack by moving to the side and did the same for the second attack too.

"Little brother, stop this," he said, but Freddy didn’t listen. He went for Yasu again who moved to the right. Freddy realized that Yasu moved to the right if he wanted to dodge.

He stabbed horizontally at Yasu, with full intention to move his sword at the last time. Yasu realized he was in trouble.

"STOP!" he shouted.

His body moved unnaturally after his shout. As if all the energy in his body disappeared at once, his body suddenly changed direction and moved backward.

Freddy’s sword missed at the last moment, as he was unable to tell just how Yasu had managed to dodge that. He stopped and swung back at Yasu, but Yasu was done with the fight now.

He simply parried the sword and kicked Freddy in the stomach, making him fall to the ground violently.

Freddy gagged from the pain as if he was going to throw up. Yasu took the time and tied his hands as well before bringing him back up to his feet.

"Sorry, I must’ve hit you too hard, but I’m afraid you are going along with me too," Yasu said and decided to drag along Freddy.

Stanley looked at Freddy with a guilty look on his face. He had come here to save him and yet he had done nothing but watch him suffer.

But, it wasn’t like Stanley didn’t want to help Freddy. He did, but for some reason, every time Yasu used his powers, Stanley got the weirdest feeling he ever got.

It was even weirder than the danger warning or foresight he saw from his power. ’What is going on?’ Stanley couldn’t help but wonder.

Yasu grabbed Freddy by his cloth in the back and started dragging him away even as he cried out from the pain. He brought along Sheila too.

Stanley had to go on his own. Along the way, he tried to figure out what it was about Yasu that weirded him out. What was his power?

It wasn’t just this time that he had felt something like that. All those months ago when his brother was first announced as the next mayor, Yasu had given him the same exact feeling as today, only less intense.

They reached the top of the 1st Quadrant, mere moments away from reaching the mansion. Stanley couldn’t keep the curiosity to himself now.

"Brother Yasu!" he called out. "I have been wondering for a while, what power do you have?"

Yasu turned around with a weird look on his face. "My power? Why do you want to know?" he asked.

"I just wanted to know," Stanley said. "Can I not ask? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to."

Yasu shrugged. "I see no problem at all," he said. "Everyone knows that my power is to momen—"

His words stopped in his mouth when he saw something behind Stanley. His mouth hung in awe as his face grew pale in shock and fear. "H-huh?" he couldn’t understand.

Freddy stopped grunting from the pain and looked to the side only for his face to change as well. "What? What the hell is going on?" he freaked out.

He heard similar sounds of awe and shock as many people that were on the streets around him pointed far behind them and spoke to themselves.

He heard Sheila’s loud gasp as well, which only got him more and more curious. Unable to stand the curiosity, Stanley slowly turned around to see something he had never seen before.

He saw the bright blue sky in the distance, dissipating storm clouds that gave space for sunlight to break through. He saw the massive body of water that seemed to stretch until it fell on the other side. He saw the horizon, the place where the water met the sky.

What he did not see any longer was the Veil.

The Veil was completely gone.

Fear crept into the heart of every single person in the town as this was the first time they had ever seen the West without the veil being in between them.

And it was terrifying.

Not because of what they saw, but because of what it meant.

The Veil was their last defense between them and the Crawlers. If the veil was gone, then... what was stopping the crawlers from attacking them now.

"AAH!" shrieks of terror rang from everywhere as panic took over the people, rightfully so. They couldn’t see much of what was happening toward the bottom of the veil, but they were very much sure now that the veil was gone, the crawlers were going to come for them.

In their panic, they began to run anywhere they thought they could be safe.

Yasu realized that at any moment, the people would run away from this place and flood the upper area. "Let’s go!" he said and dragged the two people with him, running toward the gates.

Stanley looked at the place where the veil was now gone and ran with Yasu, going into the mansion through one of the gates where the guards had already run away in fear of the crawlers.

Yasu arrived in front of the mansion and was about to run in when suddenly a voice spoke over the speakers.

"Yasu, you’ve come." It was the mayor’s voice. "You’ve brought more than I asked for. Whatever. That young man knows where to go. Make him take you to where I am."
