Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 114: Captured

Chapter 114: Captured

Stanley paused and looked at her with a confused look on his face. "Why should I?" he asked.

"There’s nothing else you can do," Sheila said. "You’ve lost. Time to give up."

Stanley frowned. He didn’t frown because he was confused about why she was saying what she was saying, but because she winked as she said that.

What was she trying to do wink at him? Was there a meaning to the wink?

"I don’t know what is going on," Yasu spoke. "But I want to find out the truth too. Bradley... didn’t deserve to die this early, especially not from someone that might have been jealous of him becoming the next Mayor. I cannot imagine who could do such a thing, but I do want to help you find out."

"As for the mayor, I can understand hating him for killing your brother, but maybe he had to. Maybe Bradley was suffering, and he had to end his suffering," Yasu said as he stared at his own palm. "I certainly have done that a few times when my friends are wounded so badly and are moments away from death after a crawler attack. They usually want to just die, and I... I just fulfill their wishes."

Stanley didn’t say anything. He could understand if his brother wanted to die to be relieved from the pain. He could understand that, had he not heard what the mayor said.

’I can heal you...’ Those were the only words that mattered at the moment. The mayor could heal him, and he chose not to.

Stanley was about to refuse even more when he saw Sheila’s wide eyes gesturing at something. He stopped to think for a moment.

He ignored the anger and hatred he felt to think properly. Sheila wasn’t someone to make haste decisions. She was definitely considering something when she told him to give himself up.

What was it though? Surely it wasn’t to give him an opportunity to fight against the mayor, was it? Surely she would put her own survival before his revenge. Weren’t they supposed to run toward the veil right now?

’Unless...’

Stanley incorrectly started assuming that because some girl had gone into the veil, another crawler attack was going to start, which was why Sheila wanted to run away from that place.

’If it is that dangerous, then I should do what she says,’ he thought. "Alright, I will go with you."

Yasu gave a small smile. "Good, let’s leave," he said and walked outside.

Stanley followed him, passing Sheila as he walked out. Sheila sighed and walked out as well. She looked toward the Veil after walking out. Fortunately, the monsters there had killed the girl already.

Sheila didn’t expect her hopes to come true just yet. She had to work under the assumption that despite the many crawlers there, the girl had some way to protect herself.

She was a Nova after all.

"Huh?" Yasu looked at Sheila with a weird look on his face. "What are you doing, Sheila? I just need Stanley to come with me."

"Do you not want to take me with you?" Sheila asked.

"Why should I?" Yasu asked with a confused look on his face.

"Because I am the leader of the resistance group the mayor has been looking for all this time."

Both Stanley and Yasu’s eyes went wide at the same time. Yasu was surprised by what he heard, while Stanley was surprised that she was choosing to reveal this fact so easily.

Wasn’t she trying to hide herself?

"Sheila, this isn’t the time for jokes," Yasu said. "I need t—"

"I’m not joking," Sheila said. "Do you want me to prove it?"

Sheila ran toward Yasu without any warning and reached for his sword.

"STOP!" Yasu shouted. In the next moment, his hand flickered as it accurately grabbed Sheila’s arm and bent it behind her. "What do you think you’re doing?"

"Proving myself, you idiot!" she shouted and kicked backward.

Yasu’s leg moved at the same time, blocking her from hitting him in his nether regions. At the same time, he swept across her other leg, making her fall to the ground.

"I might like you, but that won’t stop me from doing my work as a Defender," Yasu said. "I do not know whether you are telling the truth or not, but since you attacked a defender, you are getting captured now."

"Hahaha," Sheila laughed. "Finally."

Stanley stared at the two of them in a bit of awe. ’What just happened?’ he thought. Something had happened momentarily when Yasu reacted to Sheila’s sudden attack.

Stanley couldn’t tell what had happened, only that something had. It was a weird feeling that he couldn’t comprehend.

He watched as Sheila had her hands tied up and brought back up. "Alright, let’s go," Yasu said.

Stanley looked at Sheila, wondering if she needed his help. However, Sheila simply gave a small smile toward him as if the plan she had been making had become successful.

’She really wanted to come with us, huh?’ Stanley thought.

Yasu started walking away with Sheila, so Stanley followed him too. They walked up the slope again as many Defenders noticed them.

Some tried to come for Stanley, but Yasu sent them away. Since he had already been captured, their orders from the mayor didn’t work for them.

They went from 3rd Quadrant to 1st, with the mansion only a few minutes away. However, another Defender came at that time with his sword out already as he pointed in their direction.

As he walked into full view, Stanley was a little surprised. "Freddy?" he called out.

Freddy had his hand on his sword as he looked at Stanley. "You captured Stanley?" he asked Yasu.

"Yeah, yeah, go away now. You don’t have to continue following the orders," Yasu said.

"I’m afraid I can’t do that," Freddy said as he brought out his sword, surprising the 3 others. Freddy then pointed the sword toward Yasu.

"Stanley is my friend and I know him very well. He could not have killed his brother at all," Freddy said. "So I must ask you to let him go."
