Chapter 211 211 Roman vs Reina

With Reina's hands on the ground, a magic circle appeared and her first summon came out.

The horned wolf appeared first, landing heavily on the stone floor. Its muscles were thick, its horns sharp and ready for battle, and the moment its paws touched the ground, it lunged forward.

Roman released a [fireball] spell instantly.

The spell shot towards the wolf but it had no problem evading the spell as it twisted its body and continued at him again.

Roman jumped back, sending his next spell [Scorch Wave] across the ground. Flames rushed forward in a wide arc, forcing the wolf to leap over it.

The second wolf emerged behind the flames, smaller and leaner, already moving to circle him. The crowd reacted as Roman found himself pressured from two sides within seconds.

The nobles knew that Roman had no chance of winning Reina if she fought with her full strength, even though she was a commoner, her display of power against Mira was enough for anyone to know she was truly powerful.

And if trained, she would most definitely be the strongest summoner of her time, not the strongest mage since Ava was part of her generation.

Roman fired Flame Arrows in quick succession, aiming not to hit the wolves but to steer them.

One wolf veered left, the other right, and Roman used that opening to create distance. Sweat was already forming at his temple and Reina hadn't even moved from her spot.

Her hands still on the ground as she watched the battle, she knew the wolves wouldn't be enough but she was biding her time for Roman to use more spells before she used her trump card.

The horned wolf closed the gap again, faster than before. Roman raised his arm and unleashed a [Flame Burst] at point-blank range.

The explosion threw the beast back a few steps, charring its fur, but it growled and charged again. It was clear now that a simple fire wouldn't put it down quickly, but the barrier around its body was slowly depleting.

Roman's eyes caught sight of the smaller wolf, and immediately, he slid his foot back and pressed his palm briefly against the ground.

A magic circle formed beneath him, faint and fast. He covered it instantly with Conceal, masking the glow beneath heat distortion and scattered embers. To the audience, it looked like nothing more than scorched stone.

The smaller wolf darted in from the side and a smile formed on Roman's face, he purposely took his eyes off the smaller wolf to bait it into attacking and it did just that.

The spell he concealed on the ground was his [Explosive Ember] which had a few seconds countdown before the explosion and just before the wolf could lunge at Roman it exploded.

The smaller found was thrown into the air and since the spell exploded from underneath the wolf, it hit a vital spot which was the wolf's stomach causing the barrier to deplete instantly.

As soon as the barrier was gone the wolf disappeared instantly.

Reina lifted her hand again, her eyes narrowing, she had no idea a spell was hidden there as she was so focused on her horned wolf getting Roman.

Under her command, the horned wolf backed off, and the ground trembled as her final summon emerged.

"Oh shit" Roman mouthed as he turned his head to the side.

Iron Fang slithered forward, its massive body scraping against the stone and sand of the arena ground. Its scales reflected the sunlight and it had locked eyes with its prey.

Roman's breathing slowed, even as his heart pounded. This was the moment he had been trying to delay.

Iron Fang lunged towards him and Roman barely managed to dodge to the side, releasing a [Fireball] that struck its head directly. The flames exploded, but when the smoke cleared, the snake kept coming, its body unharmed. It was too fast, too close.

The horned wolf also attacked from behind pinning Roman just like the first time.

Roman clenched his teeth and reached out as the wolf leapt towards him. He was able to avoid the class and his hand brushed its fur for less than a second.

[Sound Attack]

Roman immediately cast his Illusion spell, just like the name it attacks the opponent's ears with violent sounds, but can only be activated when Roman makes contact.

A violent wave of sound burst into the beast's senses. The wolf crashed into the ground mid-leap, in front of the iron fang, howling and thrashing, blinded and disoriented.

That opening saved his life as he backed away towards the other end of the arena.

Iron Fang wasted no time as it slitted around the wolf and struck with its tail.

Roman raised his arm and slammed his palm against its tail. Pain shot through him as he was pushed backwards his back hitting the barrier at the end of the arena, but another [Sound Attack] was used on the snake.

The snake recoiled violently, smashing its head into the arena floor as it writhed.

Roman staggered upward, his entire body was in pain and his mana was dropping fast.

The entire arena still had no idea what was happening, it definitely wasn't a flame attack but they knew it was some sort of attack, and it didn't last long.

Reina's iron fang was already back on its feet and her horned wolf was ready to strike.

He activated [Self Mirage] but since Reina wasn't in view, only the Iron Fang saw it.

A false image of Roman sprinted left, The real Roman moved the opposite way, barely staying on his feet and once Reina was in his sight he closed his palm together.

Reina recognized the spell, it was the same spell he used that night, she immediately instructed her summons to dash towards Roman.

Reina immediately summoned her hawk, it wasn't to attack but instead to react to the spell and block it since it was targeted at her.

Roman cast three spells in quick succession and once he was done he fired the spell, it wasn't just the magic circle he concealed, he also concealed the spell itself and no one saw anything coming.

Reina's iron fang immediately reacted and swung its tail towards Roman. There was no way he could dodge so he used his hand to brace the attack and it hit him on his side.

Roman heard a tiny crack as he was hit and the attack sent him flying, Reina knew it was game over as her horned wolf rushed towards Roman but then a spell hit her.
