Chapter 746: Wreckage Graveyard
Chapter 746: Wreckage Graveyard
Before starting the climb up to the mountain plateau, Clark looked over the wreckage. He could see a lot more since the parts of the moving mining city were either putting themselves out with their unique carved runes, or the wind had blown enough smoke away.
The wreckage was much larger than what the group had realized. There were large chunks of the moving blinding city thrown a distance away. The way that the attack had happened must have been even more brutal than what everyone imagined.
Furthermore, there were small movements here and there. Steel hammer dwarf monsters still tearing apart the wreckage in their pain and suffering.
Clark could also spot the area where his group was making a healing area. They had it divided up enough that Ralph and Brad could defend it from any monster that approached. Their efforts clearly being the reason why nothing had caused them more trouble.
'Broken giant mining machine- ultra rare
This beast is made specifically for living on and mining. The dwarves can have various attached golems mine the earth that it attaches to from the surface or the stone.
They can live within it even though it constantly moves and shifts due to its travel. While dangerous, the dwarves living within it know the mechanical components more than any other could.
The skills used to forge it are extremely high due to the materials used. The core was created using over a hundred years of forging techniques. The rune formations carved on it are a highly guarded secret among the dwarven race.
It can be made in to a proper traveling fortress golem if it is improved enough, however, its state is currently impossible to repair. The core has been damaged but still functions enough to provide minute amounts of energy to the functional aspects. This is why the fires are being put out.
This function will cease within…'
Clark couldn't read any more of this. The analysis showed off the true crime that had been committed here. There were not enough living dwarves here or functioning golems to save this moving mining city.
The only reason it could still be called a city was its size and storage abilities. The entire thing had been twenty floors of moving mechanical might. A feat that many could not possibly accomplish without extreme teamwork and knowledge.
The core alone was a treasure trove of information for another race like the humans. But could they even understand this level of technology? No, it was too advanced and would take years to even begin to understand without specific teaching.
"It was once something called a moving mining city. A literal home to plenty of golems and dwarves. Now it's just a huge grave of metal and monsters." There was a lot of sadness in Jerold's voice as he recalled what Clark had told them about this city. About how it had moved about changing the landscape, regardless of the damage.
"It is a grave now. Not all of them are lost. The others are handling it and we can push ahead the quickest." Clark and Jerold could already sense the dangers above them.
The moment that they had changed their location to begin climbing, they felt the energy moving chaotically above them. The dark energy was thicker since the shadow swarm centipede was up there attacking the base where the dwarfs had their dungeon connected to their home.
"Remember, there should be a second water type monster up there too. One that is smart enough to make that potion rain down temporally." Jerold nodded as he started climbing faster. His focus on how they would fight it could be felt in the air.
As they climbed, Clark saved energy instead of using the wings that Crim could create in the armor form. He was surprised that Jerold saw the smaller changes in the rocks to allow him to use them as grips better.
This was a testament to how keen his eyes were. His training to be a better scout wasn't just in his ability to track, but to spot details in the terrain as a whole. Specifically, right now, he was spotting the best places to be able to hold and climb on.
This speed was what they needed. Beyond having their bodies improved due to their harsh training, being able to follow the optimal path was perfect. It was also why they could sense the dangers ahead more.
Shy was holding on to Clark and Crim as they climbed. She wanted to ensure that she could use her shadow threads to keep him and Jerold from falling. Clark was thankful for her worries.
Devi, however, was already well above them both. He was using his invisibility to check for the dangers that Jerold and Clark could sense.
With the warnings that were being sent to Clark through their bond, he knew it was not good at all. Despite the darkness that hung above the dwarven base, Devi could still see well enough. This was enough to tell that the battle going on was more developed compared to what Clark and Jerold had imagined.
Speeding up their motion, the pair reached the edge of the plateau only to spot the dangers Devi had been witnessing while waiting there.
'War golem- rare
The war golem is a mechanical golem created using metal energy and higher levels of dwarven forging techniques. The metal alloys used are a highly regarded dwarven secret.
They function using a core of metal to house their major runes and energy. They can function based on orders given or by being piloted by a dwarf with the applicable knowledge and skills.
Its weakness is like all golems as it has gears that must mesh for it to properly function. However, extreme heat and cold may Influence the war golems greatly since they are created for intense physical combat.
Certain attachments and variations may allow it to fire arrows, bolts, use swords, or even fire magical energy based attacks. This depends on the one that created…'
The war golems were involved in battle with many of the shadow swarm centipede sections. Plenty of the golems were broken or falling apart due to being ganged up on by these sections. Things only seemed to be going worse with how outnumbered the dwarves were.
The dwarfs that had emerged from destroyed war golems were battling using axes or large two handed hammers. These fights were a struggle since they were not as agile without the golems to control. Yet, they easily shattered the carapaces of the monsters they fought.
The dim lighting due to the dark energy spread over the area made it even harder to see details of how the dwarf base was built. That wasn't why Clark and Jerold were there though.
"You go to the base and speak to anyone in charge. I'll find the head of that shadow swarm centipede and kill it."
"Once I talk to them I'll find that water affinity monster you mentioned. We need to kill that if it's making more monsters." Jerold knew the risks of what he was proposing. Yet, he didn't feel it was something he should fear. He had to fight it so that more people could live.
"Let's go. Shy, start helping the war golems." Clark saw strands of shadow threads spread out from Shy's shadow. Nearby golems suddenly had the upper hand against the now struggling monster sections. Shy was able to trip them up while reserving a lot of her own energy.
This made it easier for Clark to travel. He dashed through the battlefield avoiding the war golems and striking at any shadow swarm centipede sections he could. Some of the war golems even backed away seeing the sudden appearance of a crimson clad spear fighter.
While they did not know where he came from, it was clear that they were communicating the new combatant to each other. The war golems soon avoided Clark as he attacked and defeated monsters with them. Not necessarily an ally, but not an active threat. A wise move for the dwarfs since they were at war.
When Clark sensed a presence behind him, he realized it was another dwarf turned monster. This one had an ax partially fused in to its body. The metal creating burns up and down its arm. Like it was possessing him.
He didn't need an analysis to see that he was I. The same state as the other dwarf monsters. Mindless and in suffering. That was why he did not hesitate to dodge the ax strike and pierce the neck of the monster with his spear. He only left an apologetic nod behind before moving toward the darker area he could see. The clear source of the dark energy spreading around.
The entire area.
As he did so, more wrecked war golems could be found. They had significant cuts along their armored bodies. Metal had been sheared off by powerful pincers. The attacks that Clark had to be ready to face when he found the head of the shadow swarm centipede. Attacks that could cut through Crim's armor form easily.
