Chapter 740: Controlled Power
Chapter 740: Controlled Power
Feeling the sudden kick back at the end of his lunar storm spear, Clark leaped back. He watched as the rock troll's blood fell to the ground, but the wound visibly began to close. The rock trolls had tougher defenses because they were an earth affinity beast. However, their strength was the same as every troll, they had regenerative abilities.
Because of this, Clark found that he was stuck with the issue he had not wanted to deal with from the start. He had to figure out how he would handle the fact that this troll was not on high alert and would not leave itself wide open for a single kill attack.
Just to add insult to injury, Clark was watching the second rock troll begin to step forward. The two appeared to be partners of some sort. One being larger and the other being smaller. It meant that these two were going to keep this as their home for a nest while making the entire area full of trouble due to the rock goblins breeding too.
While moving backwards, Clark felt that things were also getting more dangerous around him in general. There was a roar from his back that told him the rock goblins had appeared. But this roar was not from a beast. It was from Ralph charging in to the rock goblin and slashing it apart.
The entire group was battling now, but that was also a good thing. They were not overwhelmed, they were fighting just as they should be. Perfectly flowing in to battle without having to push themselves beyond their means.
Simply put, Devi, Shy, and the midnight eel were doing their jobs well.
The power that the midnight eel was demonstrating was shocking. With its longer size, it was adding more weight behind its tail as it moved through the air and shadows. This led to to slam in to the rock goblins with its tail. The resounding cracks were from the rock goblin's skin shattering when it was struck.
Almost tenderizing them before it would bite them to pierce them with its long and sharp teeth.
Devi didn't need any help with anything. He was slashing through them with his ghostly claws, those that he could bite, were bitten and had their soul energy benign drained. Any of the rock goblins attacked that attempted to flee would find themselves incredibly weakened.
The residual death energy was taking a massive toll on them, so much so that it allowed Devi time to come back to them and finish the job.
Shy was on an entirely other level. These were rock goblins. They might be tough and a little strong, but they were weak minded. They also had no affinity with darkness or shadows whatsoever. Therefore, when she wrapped them in shadow threads, they were completely at her will.
The rock goblins moved around attacking one another causing chaos and confusion amongst themselves. This allowed Shy to keep fighting the ones that got too near her with sharper shadow threads that she controlled with more fine tuned energy. They slashed through the necks of the rock goblins with little effort. The sight would terrify any other that saw it.
This peace of mind allowed Clark to keep his focus much better than any other time he had been fighting with the group. As he dodged a rock thrown by the rock troll, he slashed again with this spear. This time, the lunar storm spear was not aimed at the head or the chest. It was aiming for the joints in the arm of the rock troll.
The bone had been too tough to cut through without using more force than necessary, therefore, Clark used the next best attack method. Attack the weakest points. If he were to attack a joint, he could cut off that limb entirely. Whether or not the rock trolls were strong or had great regenerative abilities, they would take a long time to heal an entire limb. If they could at all.
While the first rock troll attempted to pick up another rock to throw at him, Clark stepped swiftly closer. The ghostly steps that he used were the lower edge of his level of skill, but he already had much more speed than these two beasts. It was all about controlling his strength when it came to these battles. Holding the energy he used as if it was too precious to use.
To anyone else, this mind set would be odd. Naturally, Clark could feel himself thinking it. Why hold back when he could end this fight much faster by using the best of the best. But how could he do that if he was in a state of exhaustion? How could he do that when he was limited by outside factors?
What if all the strength that he gathered was unusable? Would his mind be able to fight along with what he was dealing with? Could he keep up mentally with the stress of whatever he was facing? Or would he crumble and leave all his dreams to die with him?
The arm of the second rock troll fell to the ground. It screamed in rage as it found that it had been injured so badly now. The first dropped the rock it was picking up and charged at Clark with the desire to leap and smash him with both its heavy fists.
It was normal for Clark to create some distance. But that was all to bait the charging troll toward him more. Itsforward momentum acted as force used against it. Clark's spear pierced forward and cut in to the rock troll's knee. The beast falling to the ground with the kee barely atatcked any longer.
Ignoring the fallen and raging in pain fallen rock troll, Clark sped ahead and slashed through the neck for the first rock troll that had attempted to pick up its fallen arm and reattach it. The rock troll had not even realized that it was the target of the most precise attack yet.
As the head fell, the body began to flail for a few seconds. Clark could tell that the rock troll would have surely been able to heal if the head was pressed back on to the body for those seconds. A terrifying bonus to the regenerative skills that they had as a species.
Feeling the loss of its companion, the rock troll missing its leg lost all minute bits of intelligence it might have. It ignored the leg it had once had fully attacked and charged at Clark using its arms to propel it and the one remaining working leg.
To combat this enraged charge, Clark used moment again as his friend. He lowered his level and allowed the troll to charge in to him. However, the spear had lowered with him in a piercing stance. When the rock troll had hit him, it had dealt its own damage.
This was a technique Clark had use before. He had not managed to use it often, bit enough that he could consider it a proven method to fight unintelligent beasts. Especially since that the rock troll had pierced itself right through the center of its chest. Right where the heart was.
With a sickening twist, Clark twisted and pulled the lunar storm spear back. Massive amounts of blood flowed from the rock troll before he spun the spear and slashed its neck leaving its body to fall to the ground as well. He had to be sure that he defeated this opponent.
He stood in the center of the cave and looked around him, seeing that the group members that always stood around him had killed multiple rock goblins each. Reese was just piercing the last one in the area alive with his spirit steel sword, the slash carrying sword aura to cut through the tougher rock skin.
While Clark could sense the attacks of Devi and Shy decreasing, he was still impressed at the power that they had shown in causing the rock goblins to fall in to chaos. If they had not gone off on their own, the entire group would have been overwhelmed with the numbers of rock goblins coming at once.
Now, they just had the job of gathering materials. It was also of note to say that not a single one of them had received a scratch. They had fought with control and skill. They had not overused their strength but used their intellects to handle the threats. A welcome challenge even though these beasts would have surely been a death sentence for any other group.
"We will encounter more when the rock goblins return from hunting. We should clean up and close the dungeon entrance sooner than later." Ella snapped them out of their thoughts. She was right. They had the time right now to do what they needed to do, both otherwise, they had to get moving.
"As soon as I grab these earth crystals. This dungeon has a few in the floor!" Isa saw money on the floor. Free gold coins just waiting for them.
