Chapter 682: All Healed Up
Chapter 682: All Healed Up
"I don't think it will work though… my twin spirit moth can only affect the spirit with its energies and skills. Not the physical body." Maria's worried voice was enough to stop herself from moving forward.
"No, you are right, but you are also wrong. Just because that will not cause damage, it will still be heat from fire. There are plenty of beasts like the spirit flame fox that are immune to attacks unless they are water energy attacks and also can not harm people unless attacking their natural spiritual energy."
"They are rare for those traits, but they are also useful for this reason. Many illnesses require the body to become hotter to push those illnesses out. But, when using fire and other methods, there are burns. That happened to grace. So, with your partner, it's possible to avoid burns while also removing this monster."
Clark watched as Maria understood. She had not immediately related the experience with Grace to this situation. Specifically, because she had been more focused on the fact that the unique nature of the twin spirit moth stopped it from harming physical beings.
However, it could use the heat and water affinities with their unique spiritual affiliation to influence the core energies within herbs and other materials for alchemy. Since the monster was a slime like beast with a core, it was physical only in its body. Otherwise, its energies and being itself was kept within that core.
Therefore, heating the body of the infected would cause it to take damage naturally.
"We are basically giving this patient a fever." Clark smiled as he saw Maria's focus heighten as she accepted what they were doing. She also understood that making the body temperature grow higher would also cause some risks.
Too high of fevers could cause damage to the body. It wasn't the fact that the body was unable to handle the heat, but the stress of the body handling the heat. It would work too hard to cool itself while other processes would be heightened beyond a limit. That was what Maria and Lit were monitoring.
The midnight eel was, unfortunately, not a beast that could heal or could affect the body of another but it was still there offering its energies to the twin spirit moth and Maria. It had some spiritual energy affinity as well, so it felt that the best way to help was through some cheering and sharing of energies.
When the twin spirit moth created a flame from its mouth, the room grew in temperature instantly. But nothing burned. Not a single thing was affected by the flames other than temperature. Well, there were some herbs that were being ground in to paste for certain injuries with leaves curled slightly, but that wasn't much of an issue.
Maria carefully kept her attention on the pulse and state of the patient as the flames encompassed him. The yellow pus like slime body of the bone eating parasite became bubbly and erratic. The heat was a warning to it that the body it was in would be lost.
It feared fire because it knew that flames could kill it. That was its greatest weakness. But it was deeply burrowed in to the leg of the patient in question. The distressed groans of the patient also caused many of the watching healers to become worried.
One healer made an exasperated cry when a small beast tried to bite his hand to get away from him. Clark's eyes darted over to see the small mouse with very large ears.
'Nocturnal dust mouse- uncommon
Due to its exceptional hearing, this nocturnal beast is able to survive within the deserts safely. It will hide within the lightest sands and blends in effortlessly during the day. This is also how it protects itself from heat.
The weak earth affinity also allows it to be able to feel slight vibrations in the sands around it. Even regular ground is ideal for it. It can pair the audio strengths of its large ears and the earth energies it senses to scout an area of dangers much faster. Having this beast as a night look out is a very good boon.
Due to its tamer being in grave danger, it is prone to collapsing and losing energy. However, it is currently in an erratic state due to the risk of danger to its tamer. If it is not kept still it might cause itself damage while trying to fight any enemy it perceives attacking its tamer…'
Clark motioned for the healers nearby to help the struggling healer. The fur was clearly slippery since it was so fine. That was all to hold the dusty sands that the little nocturnal dust mouse needed to blend in to the desert with. He was glad that it was trying to fight for its tamer's health. But he could also see the cuts on its own body that were being forced open due to its struggle.
It was risking its own life.
When The heat started to get more intense and the skin all over the patient's body turned flushed, Clark knew that the fever they had induced had reached the right level. There was also the evidence that the bone eating [parasite had begun to push itself out of the leg. The yellow body clearly breaking down as only pieces fell from the open wound.
Seeing that the large amount of monster body had left the wound, Clark quickly grabbed a pair of thick leather gloves that healers used when dealing with poisoned injuries. He began pulling at the body of the parasite and found it easily leaving. It was almost welcoming the help to escape and potentially find another host.
What it did not realize, was the the spiritual flames used by the twin spirit moth were waiting for it. The moment the small dark yellow core of the bone eating parasite appeared, it suffered incurable damage.
The spiritual flames came in direct contact and cracked the core causing the remainder of the slime like body to melt and disintegrate. "Maria, have your beast remove the what and add water energy to act as a cooling effect. Lit, do your best. If anyone has medicine to help heal bones, bring it."
Clark's precise calls and movements to help were enough to make every single healer move but the few holding on to the fluffy dust mouse. In an instant, medicine was being applied to the open wound and administered in drops to the patient's mouth. There was also a healing aura all around it as Lit's tentacles touched the affected injuries.
Beyond that, the dust mouse calmed immensely. It stopped struggling and the healers released it. With a worried sniff, it moved toward the head of its partner and laid down. Keeping guard for them as it should be. But also finally resting as it should so that its own injuries could be healed by Lit as she worked hard.
This process spent easily an hour. The bone in the leg would not heal instantly. That would take a few weeks since the monster had done severe damage. But the leg was not lost. That was a massive win for the healers who had heard the risks here.
When Maria finally leaned back and used Clark as a pillow, she was spent. She had managed to help someone that was clearly at life threatening level of risks. But no one had seen it. There were even multiple healers around her bragging about how amazing it was being there to help and witness it all.
'Side quest- helping hand- completed
Requirement: make yourself known to the injured while you help them heal. Your analysis skill can seek out hidden injuries.
'Reward: one skill gacha ticket with enhanced percentage on healing related skills, five spiritual energy crystals, five poison energy crystals, one case of common and uncommon healing herbs for alchemy.'
Clark also saw the side quest complete which made him relax much more. But he was more amazed by the fact that the twin spirit moth was so adept in its control of the unique spiritual water and spiritual fire energies. It was still new at this kind of control. Maria had barely been using her alchemy knowledge just yet. It was something she had planned for the next few days.
While the system was distributing the rewards, Clark's eyes rested on the tent. He had not realized that so many people had been healed by the healers under his orders. That so many had been helped by Maria and Lit in their movements. The entire tent of injured people were healed to the point that most had woken up.
Even their beasts were looking brighter despite their own injuries still needing more time to heal.
"I know we should rest some, but what about the larger tents of injured people. Some of them are still suffering. Especially their beasts. The larger beasts can't be healed in the same ways." Maria had a goal in mind despite her tiredness. Clark could only look at her with pride as he nodded his head and started to help her up.
