Spirit Taming

Chapter 663: Marching

Chapter 663: Marching

"Good, let's clean this place up so I can properly retire." Alexander waved his hand. While he was not the strongest when it came to his body, his beasts were stronger than ever.

Age was catching up to Alexander. That was part of why he wanted to make the move here so soon. He wanted to ensure that he would be leaving a good place for the people around him.

When he had been younger, he had been too focused on battling. On finding the next challenge. Yes, he had previously been very involved within the academy. But he had seen his own mistakes there. He had only boosted the egos of the sting. He had only provided for the strong.

This had led to the families that were able to provide for their children and push down others, to gain more power. It was so much so that Alexander had looked back with immense regret the older he had gotten.

The problem with that though, was that he could not go and fix things. Because he had been busy fighting larger dungeons and being away for longer, he could not follow through with fixing the issues he had been partly responsible for creating. He could not send anyone else that could handle these massive dungeons.

He couldn't stop his own fights. He had taken a student in and found that she was purer than others. That was when he finally realized that he had a chance to change things. It only grew as he took the initiative to understand who had matching values to his.

When he had first spoken to General Mane, he had found him blunt and up front. A good thing in some ways. His harsh exterior was actually just a shell of who the general was. In realistic means, he she become tough because he had to be so that people would listen to him. In realistic senses, he wanted to see everyone happy.

Once the two had realized who each other was, they had joined hands. But that was not enough. The years pushed on until Clark presented himself. A young man that had been found after an entire block of buildings were burned. Losing his parents and waiting revenge.

That was the last straw. Proof that the other corrupt families needed to go. That enough people were ready to throw aside their own lives to ensure that those people fell from their golden thrones.

But when Clark showed off his strength and desires to grow as well, it was more fuel for the flames of change. He was growing so much that Clara had made sure to tell Alexander as her mentor and push forward her own desires that matched the two.

This wasn't a time for him to reminisce on why he had taken this path or why he had to stay behind. He was limited, but his beasts were not.

Each elemental gargoyle split up heading toward the weakest of the groups. They would be the added strength to ensure that these four groups would be able to make it back safely. That they would find their goals without any issues.

"We are headed toward the Mourne family household. You are the strongest within the group and will be taking down the family that is causing the most damage. Stand with me." Clark held his spear as he went out of the academy.

The streets were barren. Not a single person was anywhere to be seen. Everyone that was not involved in fighting had taken shelter within their basements or evacuated to places that they believed to be safer.

Their march was not interrupted until they had left the academy gates well behind. Just enough that there would be a harder time to reinforce them.

'Clay spider- uncommon

The clay spider covers its body in clay. They normally live in the clay canyons where they can hide their bodies better after rainfall. They will then use that camouflage to capture the silt flies that enjoy eating the smaller insects that will crawl out of the clay mud puddles.

They are not strong beasts in the sense that they have poison, instead, they use the clay and very weak water affinity to make the clay on their bodies tougher. This heightens their earth affinity and makes their attacks hit harder along with their ability to defend.

However, they are slowed by this and can not resist many hits at their weak joints…'

Three clay spiders had moved from an alleyway. But a pathetic ambush by weaker beasts was nothing to Clark. He didn't even need to call out to the others. He didn't even need to have Devi or Shy make a move.

His spear pierced the joints between their head and their main body. The spear had pierced it and slashed out perfectly decapitating all three. The next sound to follow other than the bodies of the clay spiders falling to the ground, were the pained cries of the three tamers.

For, what Clark could see, they had been hiding in the ally and were students that had been taken front he academy and told to fight for the Mourne family. They were lucky to all have the same beasts given to them as their secondary beasts. But they had not realized that they had long chosen the wrong path.

"Tie them up. They will face their own reckoning before a council of their peers. If they try to call out their spirit beasts, end them. That means that they can not be taught a better way." it sounded harsh but this was the reality. Giving them one single chance was already a blessing for them compared to death.

The group behind Clark brandished ropes. Or at least those that were not in stunned awe from how easily Claark had stepped forward to defeat enemies in a single swift movement. It was well beyond what they had witnessed. Well beyond what had been expected. Now they understood why the gargoyles sent out by Alexander had not gone with them.

They already had their trump card that was going to begin the siege on the Murne family mansion.

As this happened, Brad found himself leading a different group. He had thought he would be paired with someone, but Alexander had taken the control of that decision. He was not walking with a group of people toward a placece that he believed Ella would have been better off going.

He was also not alone. Going with him to the Nova library was the earth gargoyle that had been sent by Alexander. It had been a slightly slower moving gargoyle compared to the other three, but Brad could sense the terrifyingly pure earth elemental energies that it radiated constantly.

To make this more intimidating, the gargoyle's face had twisted in to that of anger. Its movements also had a clear shown of watching the area for threats. But unlike the other three, it had thicker stone skin that Brad understood had to be for defense. It was an ideal defensive partner for him since he also focused on defense.

The library was once a place where Nova citizens could go no matter their age or their family history. That had been the founding beliefs. Or at least until they needed donations to repair a roof that leaked. And then when they needed new copies of older books made. And finally, when they had a caretaker pass away and a new, much younger, caretaker put in his placece.

All of this had gathered together to give the Mourne family the ability to limit who could go in to this library full of amazing knowledge. From there, it had gotten worse. Almost no one even attempted to go there without having the Mourne family as backers. Let alone those that had been forced to pay outrageous prices.

Some people had managed to sneak their way in, but that was a rarity within itself. Especially for those that made a big splash in the gossip around the city. So, being one place that the Mourne family had taken over, it had become a place that was on the list for attacking.

The goal was not to destroy the library, but to remove the people living within and around it. They were all people who followed the Mourne family. All people that hid knowledge so that others could not have it. Effectively weakening the city as a whale for many years now.

"So you have come to take away what is mine. What a bunch of idiots." The words stopped Brad and the group of students, guards, and faculty behind him. They had only stopped because they saw the odd beasts gathered in front of the library square.

"My ink pixies will ensure that you are written in to your very own history. Most likely the history of your death, but you will be mentioned." The gleeful laugh came from the younger caretaker and his assistant. They all had the same beasts provided by the Mourne family. Beasts perfect for rewriting historical books for their own benefits.
