Chapter 558: Water Battles
Chapter 558: Water Battles
Razor mussel- common
The razor mussel may only be a common beast. However, its powerful earth and water affinity allow for it to make extremely tough shells. They then use the water and the tough shells they condense to attack. Their razor edge is enough to cut and resist many things.
They can often trap stronger minerals within themselves and condense them in to smaller needles that they use to attack along with water. However, they have the ability to take over and breed in large areas.
This is not necessarily a bad thing. With this ability, comes the fact that they purify water as well. They can easily purify the strongest pollutants along with natural wastes. They are also a great food for larger beasts that can easily crack their shells and consume the insides.
There is a chance for them to grow in to a cluster of razor mussels. If they manage to gather over a hundred of their kind they can meld their shells and create a razor nest. It is capable of producing more powerful razor mussels known as high razor mussels.'
Clark saw the many razor mussels around. They were similar to the clam type beasts he had seen before. But he knew that those that harvested the razor mussels often spoke about the dangers associated with them.
Their abilities to use water like blades and to fire pieces of shell like needles in the water made them very tough to farm and to battle against without adequate strength. Especially when there could be hundreds along the riverbed or the lake they grew.
What really made Clark worry though, was the fact that the system recognized that these were not the top of the food chain. These razor mussels could easily just be the lower food source other than the small fish like beasts. Therefore, the more commotion he caused just by getting a tough enough stone to break the mineral deposits was dangerous.
"Ha!" Clark let out a bubble of air as he realized that he didn't need a rock or anything any more. Hje had the perfect solution right here.
Six small flying fish darted around Clark. The shadow threads piercing their bodies were the reason that Shy had control over them to do so. But what the flying fish were blocking was more important. Small shell needles had pierced them making their bodies useless to Shy for anny longer.
Clark's mental thanks was enough to make Shy reach her shadow threads out more in search of other flying fish to use as shields while Clark targeted a slightly larger razor mussel so that he could get a better piece of shell. The black lightning spear was ready in his hands as he felt Crim calling for him.
Clark was desperately aware of his waning oxygen. His lungs burned as if they had been set ablaze. The fact that he had thought he could be able to hold his breath this long was foolish. But when Crom left the taming space, Clark felt the sudden burst of force behind him.
Crim had taken on the armor form and created wings as usual. But using the wings, Crim cupped the water and used it to push Clark forward with much more strength than normal. This speed propelled him right in front of the razor mussel he had in his sights. The razor mussel couldn't do a thing.
It had just released the shell needles to attack Clark and found itself open with its only weak point exposed. The opening of any clam or mussel was not just a way for it to release pulses of water or gain food. It was an open place to attack and defeat it as an opponent.
The black lightning spear went right through the opening. With a twist, Clark felt the razor mussel losing its life. Before he could do anything else, Crim warned Clark that he would flap his wings again. Clark stored the black lighting spear in his spatial ring again as he grasped the shell right before Crim flapped the wings again.
The force from Crim flapping his wings and Clark latching on to the shell of the mussel caused the mussel shell to be torn from the rocks. Next thing that Clark knew, shadow threads had also wrapped around him and he was flung from the water. He landed on the ground coughing the mouthful of water that he had unintentionally inhaled.
"The hell were you doing?" Ralph saw Clark appear as he cut down another flying fish that had attempted to leap from the water and attack him. He knew that Clark had been fighting since there had been more red in the water, but he couldn't do a thing.
"Getting you a better chisel. Cut away the mineral deposits so that the elder treant can move its roots again and force the door open more." Clark saw Ralph understand before jumping to grab the razor mussel shell.
Clark coughed up some more water as Crim returned to the taming space and Shy used the last of her energy to force the flying fish away. All the while, more bubbling was coming from the water as they had attracted something stronger toward the surface.
The slamming of the razor mussel shell on the mineral deposits was all Clark needed to hear while he stood up and prepared to face whatever might be coming up from the depths of the many lakes here.
'Sunspot octopus- ultra rare
The sunspot octopus is a beast that absorbs so much light elemental energy that it has gained a fire, light, and water affinity. This triple affinity mixture allows for it to easily survive the water temperatures of every lake, leave the water temporarily, and also hide within the depths while feeding on other beasts. It is one of the strongest beasts here. It is very territorial of its lake home.
The best way to defeat…'
There was a lot of information but when Clark saw that this sunspot octopus was ten times his size, he knew that fighting it in its home territory was a poor idea. It was clearly here just because it felt that its home was threatened. It wasn't here to attack them for fun. It was chasing them off. "Ralph, speed it up. We have to leave now!"
The tentacles of yellow and white stretched toward the shore as light and water gathered together. The boiling inside of the ball of water proved the triple elemental energies that this beast had affinity for.
Regardless of what threat they faced, Clark began pulling on the elder treant's roots to show that some had been freed. The elder treant reacted instantly as it began pushing open the doors of the dungeon more and more.
Cracking mineral deposits grew more as Ralph tried to hit the thickest parts. The cracking only increased as water flowed around Ralph and Clark's feet. It had been held back by the way the minerals gathered and how the lakes had been formed. But when the large chunk of mineral deposits shattered and sprayed in to Clark and Ralph's faces, they were knocked in to that flowing water.
Just as they were swept away, heated water was shot at the elder treants' roots. It was forced to retreat and not push any more. But the sunspot octopus already saw its victory. It had chased two enemies away from its home. Now there was nothing intruding and trying to attack it.
This left Clark and Ralph trying their best to climb out of the tunnel that had been filled with a stream of water. But regardless of their struggle, two roots wrapped them and pulled them from the flooded tunnel. The pair dropped down on the ground gasping and gagging.
"You two are fine?" Maria rushed over with her question while examining the two of them. Ralph didn't seem to have a scratch on him and Clark was fine too. The pair was just soaking wet and clearly needed to arm up from their adventure in to the the dungeon.
"Yeah, we are fine. That was a mess though." Clark looked at Ralph who was still holding the large razor mussel shell. It would be a good material for him to work with. "We even took some of the mineral deposits with us." Ralph grinned even more as he showed off the large chunk of mineral deposit that he might be able to use in forging.
"There are a lot of beasts down there, but they are territorial and just want to be left alone. It's really the perfect dungeon. No issues and no reason to raid it." Clark smiled after taking a deep breath. They were all worrying about him and Ralph while Clark was looking at the system.
'Chain Quest- wilderness survival- competed
Requirement: Find ten materials that can be used as basic crafting materials.
Reward: survival skills gotcha ticket. (newly created for the user) second link'
'Quest: missing water- completed
Due to the water being redirected by powerful beasts, localized droughts have taken hold of certain areas. This is even more evident within forests that rely on underground water sources.
Requirement: discovered the source of underground water for the forests surrounding Nova City. return the flow of water that has been decreased or stopped by the current drought.
Reward: ten basic gotcha tickets, fifty various metal ingots, unique talent skill gotcha ticket.'
Clark saw both quests completed and relaxed a little. But he quickly saw that the system was generating a new piece of the survival chain quest. He just needed to read it.
