Spirit Taming

Chapter 437: Powerful Jaws

Chapter 437: Powerful Jaws

As the unsettled spiritual energy had been getting to the group, it made sense that even the slightest movements affected them. The now shifting air was enough to use the herbs to sway here and there as the beasts also moved. That caused Isa to send a burst of flames towards a braided twig. An herb that Clark had just used his analysis on.

'Braided twig- uncommon

The braided twig is a unique herb that is only useful to tree or plant type species. Specifically, the wood turtle, green moss tortoise, and the willow hare are the three best beasts to use it for their growth. It has high amounts of water, earth, and ambient light energy. It is mostly useless to other beasts but is also a useful alchemical ingredient.'

While the herb itself didn't stand out because it was a very specific set of uses, Clark was surprised that it somehow managed to grow without direct sunlight to be able to gather the fire elemental energy that was naturally in it. But that was an entire mystery within itself. The energies within a dungeon were something that was not easy to explain in general.

How could he figure it all out in just one thought?"

"Things down here just seem wrong." Isa was looking at the bush she had just burned. The herbs were burnt to a crisp but to be honest, it was an improvement since there was now more space for other herbs to grow. Not that anyone worried about that, the attack had definitely just drawn attention to their small group.

"Behind!" a cannibal jellyfish floated just a little too close and instantly began to turn red. It was right near where Ella and Maria were. However, that didn't mean it could harm them.

Isa had warned Maria and therefore, Maria had already made a move. Her dagger would have not given her enough reach to attack, but that was why she fell back on her best skillset, archery. The bow and arrows she had were rarely used, but in this situation were the best weapon for her since she would get crushed by the glowing cannibal jellyfish's tentacles due to their strength and thicker defenses.

The single arrow flew true to Maria's great skill in archery. The arrow pierced right through the mouth of the jellyfish as it turned its body to the side. This move had been so that the jellyfish could latch on the nearest one of them and pull them to its center mount. Instead, it had created the perfect bullseye for Maria to hit with an arrow.

In another breath, two more jellyfish had come to feast on their defeated brethren. It was their perfect chance to get a free meal. That was until a flash of blue showed up taking chunks out of both of them in one attack. The feeling of chaotic spiritual energy also increased as Clark spotted the culprit of this attack.

'Great iridescent shark- ultra rare

Having unlocked the spiritual and the blood affinity, the great iridescent shark has gained the frenzy skill. It is able to attack prey and consume it much faster. The blood affinity allows the frenzy skill to take over a large area of effect as it feeds on prey. The remaining prey will bleed their energy in to the air attracting other potential prey items that will begin to feed.

The great term in the name is due to the larger size and the higher degree of energy the iridescent shark is able to store within their body, specifically their blood. The blood is considered a very high class alchemy ingredient for special spirit enhancing potions. It can also be used to attract very powerful spiritual beasts.

The best way to breed…'

The great iridescent shark didn't bother to hide like the regular iridescent sharks. It also lacked the natural blue skin color. Instead, it had a soft red color to its skin and the blowing blue lines that the other iridescent sharks had. It also had a set of jaws double the size. Not that this was what the group was worrying about.

Ella had already started to pull the group away from the odd red fog that was spreading close to them.

The two jellyfish bodies were emitting the reddish fog that had come from the frenzy skill described in the analysis. Clark knew it was dangerous because he had seen the details but the girls just felt it in their guts that this was a dangerous situation. It was proven even more when one of the satiated blue colored glowing cannibal jellyfish moved in to the fog.

The instant the red fog toughed it, the jellyfish flashed a deeper red than any of the others had before. Almost as if it was driven by madness, it rushed at the great iridescent shark. Why this happened would have escaped the group's mind if they could not see the red fog spreading, however, they could tell the cause and that the great iridescent shark had just found yet another meal.

In one solid bite, half the jellyfish was gone and the fog started to spread even more. This fog would be spreading to the entire floor if the group didn't make their move soon. "We need to push out of here as soon as possible. That frenzy skill is causing the fog. Blood type beasts learn it and that shark is one of them. If we are down here we will get affected too."

Resisting the fog might be in their strength, unfortunately, Clark didn't know how long they could all resist such a skill. It would wear on their minds and bodies. That was without them being attacked by the beasts which were slowly falling victim to the skill. Clark could already see a group of six jellyfish being affected and going in to a full battle just forty feet away from the group.

With the question answered of how the swarm would form, Clark could only think of one way to completely stop it, defeat the great iridescent shark, or block the third floor again. If he were to battle the shark, then he would need to make sure he was faster. Having Devi move around invisibly would only get him one attack on the shark. But Devi would have to beat the frenzy skill first.

That alone would be tough. Not to mention that one chilling bite or strike from his claws would not do enough to defeat the tougher beast.

Crim could probably withstand the effects of the frenzy skill the best. A dragon's resistances were much better than most other beasts. However, the speed that Crim had was not fast enough to counter the great iridescent shark. That would leave Crim with the troublesome fact that his body would take multiple attacks.

The slime nature that Crim had as a dragon slime would allow him to survive and regrow the body he had made. Yet, that was the issue, if the core was eaten, then Clark would lose Crim entirely with one attack. That was the dangers of fighting a beast stronger than his own.

Shy wasn't even a potential participant in this battle. The jellyfish that she could control with her shadow threads were too slow and weak compared to the iridescent sharks that fe don them, let alone the great iridescent shark riling them all up. And capturing the great iridescent shark was just a fool's dream. "Listen, we are going to grab the bright blue bell flowers and sprint out of here.

We will then seal this palace and make plans to attack it over and over before we leave to clean it up."

The order was strict but Ella was already making a move toward the patch of bright blue bells she had spotted. She had picked up a rock from the floor and used it to bait one of the nearby jellyfish to become a target for Maria. She was moving while the other made sure the area around her was safe. She had agreed with the plan the moment she heard it.

What weighed on Clark's mind was the fact that he had no idea what a luminescent heart flower was. He had to find it for the quest. It was part of what he needed to do, but here he was, in a situation where he had to retreat. The pressure to find it and get a reward was there with plenty of force. He could use the materials he got to help everyone get stronger.

His eyes scanned every possible herbs he saw while he maintained a safe distance from the jellyfish attracted to the sights of battle. He even managed to keep hidden as two more iridescent sharks sped through the air toward the frenzy that was becoming the swarm he worried about. But the glowing was helpful. The luminescent heart flower had to be just that, luminescent.

If he managed to look to the darker areas, he believed he might spot what he needed.

"If this could just be easy…" Clark muttered to himself as he watched another iridescent shark leave an overgrown herb bush. He wanted to find everything until it dawned on him, "there's no time limit to the quest. I can come back when it's safer!" His realization was just in time for him to realize that their chance at escaping the growing fog was becoming slimmer and slimmer the more they waited.

Whatever they had for herbs now was all they would be able to get.
