Spirit Taming

Chapter 342: Unshakable Sword

Chapter 342: Unshakable Sword

"Time to get crushed sword boy!" The meathead attitude that Reese's opponent had made everyone wince. It was too much. The guy clearly only cared about making his body more full of muscles. He was even flexing slightly with every step he took toward Reese.

However, everyone could tell that he hadn't summoned out a beast yet. It was still, in theory, in his taming space. This made them all wonder if they were going to see another situation like the leader of their first years with the purple spirit parasite.

Reese understood something different though, "If you want to scare me with your physique you will need to attempt another route. Even the greatest mountains can be split apart." Reese was sure that he could one day cut a mountain in half. It was what he had grown up hearing. That the greatest swordsman among tamers could wield the weakest sword type beast and still cut down miles of mountains.

"I crush mountains all the time, why do you think I have this?" The opponent pulled a sharpened pickaxe from his spatial ring and brandished it like he was about to go mining. It was an odd sight but everyone had already understood that this was not just a tamer. He was a miner as well. Someone who relied on the earth and the beast he had. Yet they had somehow managed to enter an academy.

Terra academy was odd.

The odd weapon made Reese want to focus more on his opponent, yet, he could feel the odd rumble beneath the earth with every step. The rumble that didn't seem to be the weight of his opponent. "Just let your beast out to play, I promise that it won't get too badly hurt." Reese knew that he had to taunt his opponent. He had watched others do it and was trying to adapt as well.

He couldn't be left behind.

"That's all you have? That toothpick is really your beast? I thought it was more when you first drew it out. But then all that energy died down to nothing. Pretty weak." Seeing that neither could force the other to move right away, they glared each other down.

The loser of the little staring contest was the boy with the pickaxe. He had less patience to wait than Reese who had spent many hours training himself in mind and body to handle tough situations. Hours of training the same movement would always leave a solid will, one that would wait those hours for an opponent to mess up.

The strike from the pickaxe coming at Reese didn't make him fearful at all. He could feel that the attack had a lot of weight behind it, but it wasn't enough to scare him. He had trained for years, if he couldn't control his opponent's movements, then why did he train? Why did he allow others to influence his style?

With a single upward slash, the abyssal sword in Reese's hands easily deflected and redirected the pickaxe head right in to the ground. The rumbling below that had been moving with his opponent was suddenly frantic.

The ground around them was kicked up and the opponent's tough and arrogant exterior was broken easily. He was not panicked as he lifted the pickaxe up showing that it had a small bit of blood on it. The ground that was kicked up started to become a mound right in front of Reese as he jumped back a few steps to gain distance for safety.

'Tunneling mole- uncommon.

The tunneling mole is a beast that is often found inside mountains or in deserts. Depending on their consumption of materials, they can grow in to a variety of different types of moles. They have strong earth typing to begin with and enjoy areas with high earth energy. They will often hunt for weak beasts and consume ores that they find.

Although they lack the metal typing so they often do not digest the ores unless they manage to grow in to a metal and earth type steel clawed mole.

From birth, they are forced to leave their mother's den and find their own way in life. This makes them naturally tough and fast tunnelers. It also ensures that they are able to rely on their instincts since they are more or less blind. They prefer to rely on a sense of smell and the vibrations in the earth.

Some have said that there are moles that slumber for a hundred years in the core of the earth while others say that there are some that dream of flying. These can only be seen as speculation unless a proper formulation is created to assist these so called desires in specific tunneling moles.

The cancer of creating the heavenly wing mole…'

Clark could see the large potential that a tunneling mole had. There were easily five different growth paths for this tamer to take from Terra academy. Many materials for each path were required but they were all powerful in their own right.

"The lava mole, heavenly wing mole, ice cap mole, sand stone mole, and the steel clawed mole. Those growth plans will all need to be published if we want to sell them to Terra academy before we leave." Clark whispered this to Isa as they saw that Reese and the Terra academy student were still in battle. He was going to make sure he tightened the bonds he had begun with his waiting opponent.

"That's a promise, if you don't then I will beat you." Isa grabbed Clark's shoulder with eyes full of fire. She was very excited about being able to increase their business even more than before. It would be a great way to connect to another city if they could help grow one of their more common beasts in to powerful forms.

Not that every beast Clark had just mentioned was rare, some plans already existed to grow them.

While Isa and Clark spoke about this, the tunneling mole had made its way above ground with the wound on its head and anger on its face. It was looking at the tamer that had accidentally hit it because Reese had deflected its attack. But it was not a foolish beast, The tunneling mole understood that the opponent had caused this to happen.

In a single swing, the pickaxe broke the top layer of ground and the tunneling mole jumped back in to the earth. This time it didn't care about giving away its location. Its trick to hide and attack later had long been discovered, not it would attack with its tamer.

There was a small flinch as Reese jumped away again and a claw burst out of the ground below him. He was surprised with how powerful the tunneling mole was. It had tunneled much faster through the ground and met him than they had expected. Unfortunately for the mole, Reese was also faster than he made it seem.

Reese was able to step and push off the ground with barely any vibration after copying the lithe movements that Maria had been training. It worked very well with his trained sword style. He even felt that it made him faster to incorporate her movements in to the way that he moved. Since it had been so successful, he was actually planning to add Grace's movements as well in to how he moved.

But that would be for the future, now he had to attack.

The boy with the pickaxe was not prepared for an attack, but he didn't expect that Reese could move so quickly in just a few bounds. Now he spun his pickaxe up to defend, unfortunately, again, they had underestimated Reese.

The burst of sword aura that radiated around him made even the audience and the other arenas freeze in place. There was a very refined strength in it that was not at all what was expected from a first year student.

"And that, is why Reese is so good. He has trained with his partner and probably has the closest bond with his beast out of every single tamer here. They are almost one single body without actually being one." Clark complimented Reese as he saw the pickaxe get slashed in half. The tougher muscles of his opponent were dyed red as the abyssal sword also cut through them with ease.

The single slash had also left energy behind in his opponent. Reese watched as the pained face became pale and weak. "You attempted a decent strategy. However, you were acting too confident. Please train yourself more in battle before you challenge me again." As the boy passed out and his tunneling mole rushed to him, Reese started to walk away and the referee announced the winner.

Unknowingly, a few fellow swordsmen looked down at Reese. They were impressed and curious about the boy who had shocked them with such strong sword aura. With the beast that looked too plain. With the sheath that seemed to gather a lot of energy for them. They all wanted to know more about how this boy and beast were growing.
