Chapter 343: Perfect Teamwork

Chapter 343: Perfect Teamwork

"That's five of their eight that have been beaten. Do you think they are going to get harder to fight now?" Grace was worried as she watch Reese return from the arena. She felt that things would only get harder because they had lost more people. The same had been with Celestial sea academy. They had not let out their toughest fighters until the end.

"It could be. I don't doubt that. But they were all pretty tough. If another academy was fighting, they would have been having a brutal and bloody fight. These are all geniuses you know." Clark just shrugged a little and smirked while watching the last members of Terra academy decide who would be fighting.

"But they are so weak. I thought geniuses should be stronger than us by a lot. You know that were just chosen randomly after the real top students were beaten so we would lose this year." Brad was sure that Clark was thinking poorly. He had to have missed the fact that they were technically not the strongest that could be there.

"Oh, so what happened to the training and different growth methods that have been done since we left Nova? Does any of that matter? Or was it all in my head, just an illusion that I had while dreaming?" Clark made it very clear that they had changed.

"You are all ahead of where you should be for a first year now. Even Jerold has gone through double what a first year would normally be through. So what if you weren't in an elite class? Now you are above an elite class. You should start to act like it." Clark wanted them to show off their strength even more. It was time to begin to show off what they had become even more than before.

It would make this grand show even better than it had before.

"Terra academy wishes to challenge two against two in the next battle. Does Nova academy agree?" This was a shocking development. Most academies would never agree to this. Most academies would never allow this to happen because it was dangerous. If an academy offered this then it clearly meant that they had plans to defeat the opponent with teamwork.

"I would say no, but I want to see Ralph and Grace take the stage." Clark looked at Grace and Ralph who had not worked in a pair before. But Clark had his own plans in mind for sending them up. "Nova academy agrees. We will send two to fight the next match." Clark turned back to Grace and Ralph. "Good luck you two.

Don't let the other get hurt." His gaze was on Ralph which told Ralph all he needed to hear.

The boy and girl that took the stage to challenge Ralph and Grace didn't hide much. They both wielded their own light armor and had spiked gauntlets on. The girl also carried a dagger but it seemed to be made for survival rather than for battle. If it came down to it, it was easier to say that they were a traveling pair of gatherers or cave explorers.

Or at least that was the feeling that Clark had while watching them.

'Grotto salamander- rare

The grotto salamander is very pale due to the fact that it lives and grows in caves. They live in pools of water and can go months without food. They do have the ability to grow very large depending on how well they eat.

Their water and earth typing come from their environment. Some have also been known to develop a third dark typing in rare cases but that is not the case with this rare specimen. They love the bloodworms that feed on bat complies and are often found living in pools of water beneath them.

They have unique attacks that let them create a muddy area to hide in while they shoot water and mud at enemies. This makes them able to even hunt large cave moths. They are often hunted by the cave scorpion if they are found outside of the water, this makes them fearful of the dry land to a small degree.'

Seeing the first beast take the stage with the boy made Clark surprised. He had not expected a water and ground type beast from Terra academy. However, the next beast made it clearer that these two were partner for a reason.

'Cave crayfish- rare

The cave crawfish adores the sedimentary mud that washes in from above ground. They are white due to the lack of sunlight for their entire lives. They too can last months without food. Their claws are toughened by their earth typing while they are very speedy in water and mud due to their water typing.

They will hide in the mud and travel through it to capture prey with their claws or by shooting water at their prey. They can easily hide away and sit still for weeks at a time just to hunt a particular prey.

They have the chance to grow in to a cavern lobsters if they live long enough. They just need to accumulate the proper amount of energy. They also have the high ability to recover their limbs when broken off if they survive long enough. That makes them a beast that is highly sought after if a tamer can properly control it. However, it will rarely cooperate with beasts unless they are raised together.'

This made a lot of sense. The two beasts and the two tamers seemed as if they could fight alone with some very good sets of skills while also fighting together in the same way. The very reason that they could fight together was that they exceeded in the same environment. The mud and water that the two beasts could fight in without anything being held back was perfect.

Meanwhile, Ralph and Grace were very different. Ice and wind compared to fire and metal. They were definitely not a good mix at all. But that was what Clark knew. He could tell that they would struggle in teamwork to a degree. Not that it was the reason that he sent them out.

Clark's reasoning was Ralph. He wanted to see Ralph truly let loose in a tough battle.

Grace took to the arena and so did Ralph. The steam that rose from around the molten boar was detering the frost finch, however, it seemed that they were not that wary of each other. Especially when Ralph took the forward position with his ax next to his molten boar and Grace took the back position.

The surprising part was that Grace took out a bow. One that had clearly been passed over from the other girls. As much as Clark wanted to say he had helped guide the group he was in, the girls had stepped well over anything he could claim as his guidance.

Saber techniques, rapier techniques, dagger skills, and even archery was something they had shared heavily with one another in an attempt to be the best they could overall.

They all had their ideal weapons but with the sharing of these skills, it made even Grace who was newer to the higher class archery comfortable with using it in a battle. That made Ralph the forward attacker and Grace the back attacker.

That was until the grotto salamander started to spray water all around the arena and the cavern crawfish started to kick up the dirt that the tunneling mole had roused from the earth. The entire arena had changed in seconds.

Meanwhile, Grace had reacted with a single leap back as her frost finch tried to lower the temperature around Grace's feet so that the water and mud would be frozen. Unfortunately, the heat that Ralph's Molten boar gave off was causing the water to become steam and the mud to become thicker.

The two methods to stop the mud from hindering them weren't bad but opposite of what they were doing at the core.

This didn't seem to make Ralph and Grace mind. Instead, they just glanced at each other as they saw the mud being flung up and the grotto salamander hiding. The cavern crayfish didn't hide though. He stayed further back and looked to be taking aim at them.

"The tamers are going to come in and attack us while the salamander sneaks up. Idiots. I want to crush that crab thing too." Ralph seemed angrier than he had been before making Grace a little worried. However, she wanted to break this perfect teamwork too. It was a challenge given by Clark, their team leader.

"I can get behind them and defeat the crayfish. You can hold them off, right?" Grace knew a little more about what a crayfish was but she still wished she could hear what Clark had to say about the beasts.

"Hold them off? I will beat two of them before you even get back." Ralph stood a little taller and cracked his knuckles before preparing his ax again. This time he had a very strong focus on who he would be attacking. Especially since the two tamers were already charging over with their spiked gauntlets.
