Chapter 341: Truly Taking The Stage
Chapter 341: Truly Taking The Stage
The shock that the three goblins had was enough to make them realize that they had just watched their tamer and fellow fighter be crushed. For a goblin, the strength of their group was major. That was why the strongest goblins often created villages or their own camps. That Was how they gathered. Clark had seen this before.
Therefore, it was clear that the rock goblins here would be in a long term fight with their own tamer to make themselves the top strength. It would be hard for the tamer to get past this without a lot of growth. Not to mention the wound on the shoulder caused by the midnight eel.
Even better, most people didn't even recognize that another beast had attacked. The midnight eel had appeared from the shadows of the tamer. That made it nearly impossible to discern from the shadows themselves. That left everyone wondering just what beast exactly had just harmed Maria's opponent. The only people that had managed to catch this were those for Star City and Star academy.
They recognized the familiar beast.
Clark had not failed to notice that the midnight eel had become closer to the shadows that it hit itself in. its body was also denser. The muscles had been able to grow significantly due to the addition of the sea serpent's blood in its diet. If the midnight eel continued like this there was a high chance that it would be going through another growth spurt even sooner.
There was enough nutrients for it to keep pushing its body in to the best possible state. For Maria, that meant more safety and energy for her to nourish her own body.
Maria was casually walking off the arena she had just fought on. It was clear to Clark that she had exhausted a lot of energy. However, she had demonstrated every single piece of skill she had. Her body had greatly grown with the training from Ella's older brother. She had sharpened her senses and been able to better execute her dagger skills.
This alone was enough to make her a very hard opponent to beat.
Adding on the numbing poison from Lit, it made Maria an even more dangerous opponent. Many people would not even notice the cuts they had. This was clear on the goblin's bodies since they were actually covered in shallow cuts where Maria had managed to slash them while dodging their attacks. Her movements had been so agile that most in the crowd had not seen it happen.
But looking at the goblins, they had also realized they were incredibly weak against this opponent. Not just their tamer and leader.
Finally, the white robe healing society had just seen the true strength of a glow sting jellyfish's potential. They could see that it had changed form somehow to become a royal cloak and healed the tamer using it. A shocking revelation. However, there was already a rumor spreading around them.
Many people could say that the Rolly family connections trumped all their business ventures. That was just a small understatement. The Rolly family was truly in the business of connections, as any merchant should be.
The proof of this were the people speaking about how Maria had managed to get the glow sting jellyfish to take on a different growth form due to certain materials kept secret by the business that Isa Rolly and her fellow school mates were running.
The white robe healing society managed to hear this and everything started to build from there. They knew they had to connect with her. A major development for healers that could survive in battles! A major growth to one of the weaker healing type beasts known around the entire continent. How could anyone shrug at this? It was too major!
Even more dramatic were those that knew Maria. Knew her as the Mourne family exile. The girl tossed aside to rot by the powerful Mourne family general Of Nova. They had to get this information back to the family head. There was already drama over the fact that two families had come together through her and the fact that she had taken on a new family name as the newest family head, Spirit.
Yet now, she had crushed the idea that she was some pathetic never to grow healer.
"Maria, that was the first real step to defeating the Mourne family. You know that right?" Clark saw there was a flame in Maria's eyes even though she was slightly pale and tired. She could feel it. The eyes on her were all saying that she deserved the strength she had and that she could take the step up the ladder to stand above those who beat her before. It was a truly soul inspiring feeling.
To finally stand back up after years of being broken by others.
"You deserve it, so rest a little. Reese is going to show us his sword aura. He's pretty excited about it." Clark sat down next to where Maria sat and watched Reese take the stage.
Maria didn't hold herself back. She leaned on Clark's shoulder and he did absolutely nothing to stop her. As much as he knew that everyone was looking at them, he didn't feel any shame. He was proud. He had felt disdain for the weak and scared girl that had met him during the Nova academy exam. He had been filled with more cold anger before.
Now he had doused that to truly begin his own growth. It felt like such a short time since then, but so much had happened.
A few familiar students were shouting from the Star city section for seating. Clark recognized the group of boys that he had befriended and gave a wave. They all seemed to be glad they had come to watch these battles and see the people they knew fighting. But they soon turned their gaze to the Terra academy students.
Terra academy had already lost four matches. That was a deep hole to dig themselves out of. Four matches was four points they would have to get back to make themselves the top of the match and move on to the finals where they could take on the Ethereal academy that had plainly shown its teeth when facing Solar Academy.
"Is Reese going to be alright against that guy?" Grace sounded worried. It wasn't that she worried for Reese personally, but for the fact that the opponent that had stepped out was easily foot taller and definitely more muscular than Reese.
The ground seemed to shake as the new opponent walked along the arena, however, Clark's eyes were sharp enough to see why. There was a beast hiding beneath the ground of the arena. It was subtle and only moved when its tamer moved, however, it was clear enough to see for those that were sensitive to the world around them.
"We will see, Reese needs to keep an open eyes when it comes to the ground and who he is facing. But since that opponent seems to be a fighter and a miner, I would say that Reese can beast him. Reese has a full focus on sword styles instead of splitting focus on multiple things." Clark knew that this was true for most things.
Experts in one thing were often better at that one thing than someone who split their time. Experience could bridge and crush the gap of talent. Not that there weren't times where being a jack of all trades was better than other things. Sometimes it was good to be a Master Of None.
Reese was prepared and pulled out his trusted partner from the explorer's sheath that had been helping it grow much faster. The energy that his abyssal sword had gathered was not at all a drop in the bucket. Anyone that had seen the shimmer on the sword and felt the aura it gave off before it had begun using the sheath would know that there had been a major boost in strength.
However, it was much more than that.
The training that Reese had been doing had been to loosen his form and make him more adaptable. Since Reese had always been strict, this had been very hard on him. The strict form of his family's abyssal sword style was focused on the moves so much that Reese could do them even when he was asleep. It was all an instinctual muscle memory.
However, he could not perform them more loosely from improper positions. That had been the goal. To be able to adapt better to other situations that would not normally happen when fighting someone in an honest to goodness spar. Many tamers raised in strict ways would miss this and have to learn it or die in the wilderness. Because Reese had met Clark's group, he was able to begin to understand this.
Therefore, when the arena rumbled a little before the match began, Reese was steady and adjusted his position without thinking. Enough to show anyone that had fought many battles in the audience that this was not some soft and easy opponent for the muscular Terra academy student.
