Chapter 182: Surprise Assistant
Chapter 182: Surprise Assistant
"Good morning. I see that some of you are happy to have won your battles. Others do not look so encouraged." Professor Wright saw this as soon as her students had walked in. "I can tell that a few of you faced opponents from larger families. It makes sense that even though they are not in this class, they are powerful."
There were a few people that murmured and cursed out. They had talent so they thought that they would easily win. "Others clearly underestimated their opponents. I would say at least one of you have poor luck and came up against the natural predator of your beast. That happens. What you do now is what will make the difference." The way Professor Wright held some hope.
"Today we will go over what you do when facing the perfect enemy. An enemy that is perfectly built to counter what you know." Professor Wright set down her piece of Clark and started to walk out the door. It took everyone a moment before they realized that they had to follow her.
Upon following their professor, the class made it to the open square that was in the middle of the buildings. Having it marked off was a rarity. None of them had noticed it while they were on their way to class meaning it had been set up while they were waiting.
"There are a few students who have met our older student Ella, she has a unique beast that is able to communicate with others of its species. This is due to the unique circumstance of that beast. Normally, this beast would be consumed by others. Yet when they are led by a sentient version of their species, that all changes."
There was a sneaky smile on Ella's lips. She had volunteered to help with this lecture without telling Clark, Isa, or Maria at all. She had kept the secret perfectly.
"I guess we don't have to worry about meeting Ella after class." Clark was ready to burst out laughing. He hadn't thought that Ella would pull the wool over their eyes like this.
"Thank you professor. I am very excited to be here today." Ella stood in the open space speaking proudly. It was more open than Clark had seen of her as of yet.
"Good projection. And solid confidence in her stance. We should have Ella demonstrate a beast growth process in person. Especially one with high energy and a dramatic change in growth." Isa was already figuring out how this could be used for their business.
"I have a wisp as my unique beast. This is the recently grown form, a high spiritual wisp. Due to the growth, my partner has the ability to communicate over a large area with its own species. It has intelligence that wisps do not. Have any of you seen a wisp in the wild?" Clark felt funny hearing a lecture that he already knew the answers to. It almost felt like cheating.
"Alright, well." Ella waved a hand and a single brownish earth wisp materialized from the ground. "They are weak and easily become non sentient energy food for other beasts. That is because they form naturally and rarely for a wisp egg because the other wisps are normally not strong enough in their area to help that egg form. But that is a good thing. A strong wisp can take many forms.
They are moldable."
"But how to counter an opponent that can snap up a wisp in one bite? The answer here is numbers." Ella moved a hand and her high spiritual wisp sent a small pulse of energy in to the ground.
Within a minute, there were fifteen small earth wisps around here. "Now that they are gathered and listening to my partner we can proceed." Ella gave another few orders as the group watched.
The earth was shaped in to spikes or a small wall was formed. "As you can see, together these earth wisps can manipulate the environment. So now their predator can be struck down. Perfectly defending them. For whisps, intelligence and numbers is key. What do you beasts lack?
What do you need to improve so that they can counter their weakness?"
"This is a small demonstration that shows one way to use your beasts' unique skills to counter their weakness." Professor Wright stepped in to the middle. "The wisps are usually wild food for beasts. Now, they are a battle force. Ella has spent her entire education studying them in depth. Multiple research papers have already been published about this weak beast that had numerous predators after it."
"You have an example of using a skill that some people would see in a beast and say that it has no future. What other beasts in our very own class may follow that?" Professor Wright looked over at Maria who called Lit out of the spiritual sea taming space.
"That would be my princess jellyfish. Before this growth stage, she was a glow sting jellyfish. Weak healing and weak poison. She was considered nothing in the realm of poison and healing. Even spiritually, she lacked the power.
Now she has grown to have healing well above what is expected and poison that helps me attack opponents much stronger than I am." There was an unimaginable pride that came in to the air with every word.
"That is exactly correct. With The right usage, the weakness you and your beast have is not anything you can worry about. How about another weakness that we may not know about?" Professor Wright pointed at Ralph.
With a heavy sight, Ralph pretended not to see her before professor Wright clapped her hands and pointed again. "Fine, when steel haired boars are born they often fall in to their berserk skill and run wild. They will even attack their tamer if they are in the way. Instead of letting that happen I faced my partner head on and trained my body.
Now even when my partner loses his mind…well, he fights beside me."
Since Clark did not realize that there was such trouble in a newly hatched beast like that, he had more respect for Ralph. It was something that clearly had taught him how to become tougher and was why Ralph had confidence charging at an opponent.
"Let's take some time to go over what else you can do individually to counter your weaknesses. If you have an idea, you may leave to take your time as you need." This was the end of class but it was an eye opening show for those that had not considered alternative uses for their beasts' skills.
"So? When were you going to tell us that you had been invited to help in a lecture for our class?" Clark waited to see what Ella had to say.
"All third year students must assist first year classes. It's a graduation requirement. When I saw your professor post for an assistant I jumped on it." Ella seemed very proud to demonstrate a wisp's unique skills but also to see her friends. It was a win win situation that had worked out in her favor.
"It was perfect. I can have you demonstrate more things to clients in the future!" Isa started to drag Ella away before Ella could get a word in.
