Chapter 181: Gems
Chapter 181: Gems
"That's her."
Really? But she looks weak."
"Who cares, it's worth the hundred gold.
These whispers had started a few hours after the group had been moving around posting their flyers around the academy. They were lucky that there were no teachers to stop them and that they wouldn't get in much trouble for putting them up. However, this was not what was concerning Clark.
"Why are they all looking at me!?" Maria had finally broken after the last group gossiped right in front of them without any care for her and the group's feelings.
"I would guess that someone has a bounty on you to beat you in the class competitions. It's normal since you literally started a war against the Cain family. Good job." Isa saw this as a major win. Maria had made a name for herself.
"I once heard someone say all news is good news. That's because for a business it spells business. The more that people hear of the business regardless of good or bad activity, then the business gets more customers." Clark recalled this saying from his past life. He was sure that Isa would use it as well.
"A good expression. However, they are interrupting my thoughts so I would like to return to the lab until I have to fight another person in a day or so." Ella was done with being out. She wanted to hunt down more materials for her wisps along with record their day by day growth.
"It's just frustrating that they can't mind their own business." Maria huffed again while looking expectantly at Clark. He knew exactly what she wanted.
"Alright, let's go to the cemetery tonight. We can train a little and you can blow off some steam. But you have to be ready for your opponent tomorrow. I know you need more sleep than I do." Clark was sure that Maria would be unable to stay up all night and still manage a tough battle. The matches would not be as lucky as the first days.
"They just shouldn't stare at me." The last response trailed off as Maria saw another small group chatting about her.
"Why not? I would stare at you all day if I could." Clark answered without thinking before he stopped and stuck another flier up for their beast growth plans. He initially wanted to make her feel better about it but had not realized the true effect his words had.
"You're already allowed that…" The whisper was too quiet for Clark to hear at all.
"Hm?"
"Maria just said thank you. Now let's go to the lab and make some money. I want to buy this little one some glow stone crystals. Ella needs to find a relevant material for her high wisps, and Maria wants to make sure that her midnight eel can battle sooner than later." Isa changed subjects to hide Maria's embarrassed face. It was a smooth friend save for sure.
What none of them expected was that there would already be someone waiting for them outside their research lab. Even more, Doc was accompanying them. "I told you they would come here soon. Just because some people told you not to come here does not mean coming here is a bad choice. That's why I offered to supervise for you."
"Hello! I am a first year student looking for a beast growth plan for the gem cat. I have at most fifty gold for the plan, materials, and analysis. Can you help me!" The shout was a little much but Clark quickly caught on that the girl was nervous.
"Let me guess, your beast is close to a growth stage and you want to have it ready for a battle tomorrow?" Isa saw exactly what the girl needed.
"And that means that you have trouble getting others' take on your request because they said it would take too long?" Clark finished Isa's thought. They were both affirmed by the girl's quick nods.
"Alright, let's do this then." Isa opened the lab door and showed the girl inside.
"See? Easier than you thought. They are exports. In an hour I guarantee you will have what you need to know." Doc sounded as if he was bragging about his own work.
"Alright, let us see your beast and we will work out a price after that. We also can not guarantee that we have the power materials. We can promise a very thorough analysis that you will be unable to get from anyone else." Isa waited as she pointed at the wooden work table in front of them. This was where the girl could display her gem cat.
A small fluffy white kitten popped out of the girl's pocket. It was much smaller than they all expected. Gem cats were fairly rare because they were often hunted for the fact that their eyes were made of available gems of all varieties.
'Gem kitten- rare
The gem kitten is the youngest version of the gem cat species. They are as tough as the gem they are born with. They gain strength by consuming the unique energy within the gem that they were born with.
The other ways for them to gain power is through the absorption of materials that are as tough or have similar energy as their gems. The best example is the diamond crystals which hold unique earth energies. There are rare cases where a gem kitten can be grown in to a unique light type beast.
The fur will become as tough as the gems it consumes separating a gem cat from a razor cat which is the nearest cousin species. The best materials for the gem cat to consume at the moment…'
The system analysis was extremely in depth because of all the varieties of gem cats there were. Clark realized it was not at all a simple species. Each had their own unique growth forms that would change the more of their specific energy they consumed. Even more, they had the chance to biome different elemental typings based on the energies they consumed.
"You gem kitten is tough and has sharper claws than average. That's how it won the fight, correct?" Clark looked at the girl who could only respond with a worried nod.
"Good, then I would say you should let it consume the sun diamonds. They are lower cost but they are exactly the energy your gem kitten news to advance as soon as possible. There is also the fact that it will be able to more easily feed itself by gathering the light in to gems that will form on its fur. That is a unique trait of the sun diamond gem cat.
It's also why your gem kitten has a slight orange tint to the eyes."
Having all this information being thrown at her caused the girl to freeze up. She had barely noticed the orange hue to the gem kitten's eyes. She had believed it was just some unique color from the light hitting its eyes. Not that it was a unique trait that showed what growth was best for it.
"If you focus on this method and train it only during the daylight hours avoiding night time training for a month, you will even have a chance to awaken the skill, sun's flames. It is the unique change from earth to light to light and fire energies. It is tough but well worth it.
Overall, buy twenty of the material sets we record on this paper and allow your gem kitten to have them tonight in a well lit room. By morning, there will be a large growth spurt."
Clark finished detailing what he had Maria writing. The methods that he had discussed were sketched out by Ella for the best chance at reaching the goal that Cark had offered. "This is too good to be true! I could never have heard something so grand! Might be able to face the next two battles with this!" there was pure joy on the girl's face.
"After calculations, the gem kitten is a rare beast. Fifty gold is an acceptable payment. Remember, you are signing a contract not to share this information. It will be published within three days of today for my group's personal sale." Isa stated the terms as the girl signed the contract.
"Now, let me take you to a place to get those materials. You can take a loan out and pay it back to me. I will want to see the growth process fully. That can be a portion of the payment." Doc pounced on the chance to research a growth plan that Clark had made. He also wanted to prove the accuracy of the growth plans they made.
The more he saw it the more he would be able to brag and use the information for himself.
"The gem cat was so cute! I would want ten of them for myself." Ella struck everyone with this sudden outburst. She had drawn an extra sketch of the gem kitten sitting and waiting for Clark to analyze it. Even Clark had to admit that it was adorable.
