Chapter 180: Rude
Chapter 180: Rude
"You know, when I look at the Cai family, all I see are weaklings that try to impress the Mourne family by bullying others. But do they ever truly gain strength? Or so they just remain weak picking on bugs?" Maria mocked the Cain family lackey.
Since the battle had gone in such a smooth move, Maria had easily sliced a thin cut on the boy's neck. This introduced Lit's poison that knocked him down to the ground easily. She didn't even have to make another move, the referee had already said she was the winner.
This was Maria's chance to send a powerful message. She had let Clark do the fighting for her. Clark had sent the messages not to mess with them. Now, Maria was using her strength that the Mourne family would end up fearing. For Maria, this single move was her declaration of power that separated her from those that had judged her for too long.
"You did pretty damn well out there. I wouldn't have changed a thing." Clark knew that Maria had many more moves that she could have used. She had avoided using her bow, the newly tamed midnight eel, and Lit's healing. She had outsmarted her opponent through and through.
"It was time to show off a little..and, thank you." Maria turned slightly red at the sound of praise and Clark's pat on the back. He was very impressed.
It was not every day that someone watched a battle be taken so easily as a victory. When Maria had let the earth wolf charge her then lowered her body to let it flip over her, everyone watching had been stunned in silence. This was exactly the wise and calm thinking of someone who would go far.
"Wait, we should go to Clark's arena! If we do we might get to see him fight earlier than planned too!" This sounded like a good idea and Mara instantly supported Isa in it.
"I guess we go there then." Clark was a little worried that they would just be standing there watching other students battle. It was over an hour earlier than planned.
"I would like to see the other battles. It is always good to record traits from beasts that I do not know as well." Ella had been watching the beasts on the smaller arenas while they were moving. Small notes were made in her journal which Clark could tell would be added to separate journals later.
"That's a good point. I should have thought to head to the other student's battles sooner." Clark realized he had a decent lapse in judgment here. If he had gone to some of the fourth year students' battles earlier he might have been able to learn a lot. He also had the chance to get one of them to pay a lot of gold so that they could give a decent growth plan.
The fourth years students definitely had more money to gamble away.
"You are Clark, right?" The tall boy that caught Clark outside the arena he was supposed to fight was seemingly waiting for him. "I have been waiting for the elite class member Clark that everyone talks about. Are you him?"
"And if I am?" Clark paused while he decided whether he would be taunting and fighting this tall boy or trying to be friendly.
"I am your opponent. I am going to crush you in to the ground. Then I will take your spot in the elite class with my white iron rhino." The boy walked in to the arena and immediately began pestering the referee to begin their battle ahead of schedule. This was a little rude since the referee had clearly just finished a battle between two female students that had covered the arena in ice and sand.
"You will wait while I prepare the arena. If you come up here before then I will disqualify you." The referee was not having it.
Upon seeing his opponent being threatened this way, Clark decided it was better not to waste time being associated with such a person. They were too impulsive and already causing trouble. He had also looked at the white iron rhino without even blinking an eye.
'White iron rhino- uncommon
This beast is from the white sand desert. It normally blends in then charges at targets with extreme power to impale them. They primarily eat the white iron lizards but will eat any other easy prey if given the chance.
They can grow in to a charging iron rhino which is substantially larger than the current beast size. Unfortunately, they have a very limited growth potential. This beast is often eaten by the white iron worms of the white iron desert.'
Even the boy's beast was nothing to look at in interest. Yes it was uncommon, especially in these parts of the world, but it was not powerful.
In record time the referee had called on three of his beasts to clear the arena. Clark was more impressed with the screaming baboons that easily broke the thick ice and swept away the sand. They were perfect at teamwork making them tough to beat even if they weren't as strong as they were at the moment. The referees were truly well selected by Nova academy.
"You have my permission to enter. You will begin in five seconds." The referee was short because the boy had caused him annoyance. Luckily, Clark was already prepared. He had decided that he didn't need to call on Crim for this battle. He preferred to use the skills he had and push through this fight.
"Why is every piece of trash in the elite class full of arrogance? Not even calling out a beast? Just because you have a taming space doesn't make you special. It means that you are lucky. I will crush you now! Charge!"
The white iron rhino charged at Clark with the intent to pierce him with the pure white horn at the tip of its nose. To Clark, this was slow motion. The heavy beast was moving slowly with greater strength than anything else. That meant that all he had to do was use his ghostly steps to dodge. Not that he would do that.
The trick that Clark was brewing was very simple. Using his ghostly steps technique, he drifted back further and further. The moment he felt the edge of the arena he let the rhino target him closely. In a single spin to the side, Clark was out of the way and the rhino was moving back away. Clark hadn't even taken out his spear.
"Alright, now what are you going to do?" Clark mocked the boy who had been so confident.
"The white iron rhino is unable to battle due to leaving the boundaries. The match may continue with any other beast the participants have!" The referee quickly kicked the rhino out of the battle. It could only snort and stomp the ground in rage before one of the screaming baboons moved to keep it in check.
"Cheap tricks! How can you just do that to another person's beast? You aren't even a man that can shop strength head on-" The boy choked on his words as Clark appeared in front of him at a greater speed than expected.
"And you can't use your brain. That's why you will never be a member of the elite class. Be a good kiddo and sit back down." Clark used his leg to trip the boy while pushing his chest. There was no reaction to the sudden attack.
"Excuse me, referee? I believe this battle is over." Clark was very polite making the referee smile. He preferred polite students to the rude ones that tried to get their way no matter what.
"Very good match. The winner is Clark Stormwood. Please check your class for your next battle by the end of the day today." The referee gave a nod as Clark left.
"Well, that was disappointing. I didn't even get to see Crim go wild." Isa wanted to show off the dragon slime that everyone in the academy had spoken about. It was a major way to p[romote their popularity and p[rove their beast growth plans.
"Maybe next time. I couldn't justify Crim wasting his energy while he trains in the taming space. It's better that he is prepared for a tough opponent that I might not be able to scratch with my spear." This thinking was why Calrk would always be a little ahead of an opponent at this stage of his learning. He had the forethought to prepare for an opponent he could not beat normally.
"So now that we are done here, does anyone want to help me put up some flyers?" Isa smirked. She had not told the group that she had prepared advertising for their beast growth plans. But when she showed them the fliers she made everyone bite their tongues. They were shamelessly using the rare beasts they had made plans for as attraction for customers. But it would work so they couldn't argue.
