Chapter 168: Rocks
Chapter 168: Rocks
'Rock golem- uncommon
The pebble golems' natural progression will lead to them being able to strengthen their core and control larger rocks. These rocks will give them the ability to deal more damage but slow them down at this stage of their growth.
The stranger cores are more easily to take and use as materials for forging. Their bodies are harder to break. Where they are weak are the larger gaps between the rocks that form their bodies. This is due to their elemental control of larger rocks over the pebbles that once made up their bodies. They still lack some intelligence.'
"This is all about precision. Those rock golems are tougher so we can't just knock away parts of their bodies to get to the core. Wait for the right time then stroke and hit their cores. If they break, fine. If not, retreat quickly." Crim and Devi understood that these were harder to beat beasts.
The stone golems had weight behind their attacks. Before if one of the pebble golems had hit them, it would mean little to nothing. The damges would be at most, a scratch. Now, the rocks would crush them. It was a drastic rise in strength.
Out of all the golems in the room they were watching, one was larger just like the pebble golems. Every time they found a group, Clark was sure that there would be a front runner that had managed to get stronger faster. However, these rock golems had proved to be more vicious.
They were fighting each other to get stronger. Normally, beasts would do this while hunting prey or in larger groups of their own kind. It was not unusual. Where things became strange was when one of the golems beast another. The core would be torn from the rock golem's body and the winning rock golem would place it in its chest. That was how they were stealing the energy from their fellow rock golems.
The victorious golem would have energy to spare and immediately start another fight. Slowly more and more rocks were drawn to it. It was a much faster way for them to grow than resting in piles while trying to absorb the natural earth energy.
"Let's go." Clark, Crim, and Devi had decided to go solo against the rock golems. He was sure that they would be able to handle things since they were able to take a careful approach. This would be for the best.
The first rock golem to realize that there were more beings to fight approached Clark. It was slow so when the large rock hand moved to punch him, he used the ghostly steps to dodge. This caused the rock golem to sweep its arm toward him. The sudden change in the attack was still slow but enough to throw Clark off.
With the slightly offset balance, Clark used the spear to defend and was knocked back. The force sent him rolling toward yet another rock golem. He had underestimated the strength he had and how much he would be able to defend against.
In an adrenalin field attack, Clark pushed the spear forward. He had the falling moon pierce ingrained within his muscles now so he could do it even in his sleep. Training was always worth it.
Due to this, his spear had moved through the rocks scraping along them until he felt the spear hit something solid. The rock golem that had sensed him and just begun to raise an arm stopped and fell to pieces. The rocks thudding in to the ground around Clark. It was a miracle that none fell on top of him at all.
The core had been sliced just enough to free most of the earth elemental energy. The round dark gray core fell to the ground with the scratch remaining. Clark didn't even blink when he stood up again and took a deep breath.
"Let's try again." The whisper was enough for him and only him to hear. The bloodlust that leaked out from his words was powerful though. It traveled the room and made many of the rock golems turn toward him even though Devi or Crim was trying to fight them. They could feel the energy change.
Since Clark had only ever felt the desire to murder something when he thought about the Mourne family and the many that they had harmed, he was not sure what the feeling was that traveled through his entire being. Yet, he was able to feel something becoming free. A feeling of release within his mind and soul that had been blocked up by the moral values that made him feel safe in his life.
Every single human had these. They were raised to treat life as something that should not be taken. Those people had never been in life and death situations. Those people had never had to face a moment where they could have died in an instant if they did not kill to survive.
Since Clark had not expected to face death, the feeling had hit him ever harder. But he had faced it and his body had reacted to protect him. His training had paid off and he had finally freed himself from the fear of truly letting his battle instincts take over. This was exactly the intention that Alexander had by sending Clark here. He wanted to push Clark to this point.
Bring Clark to be a real tamer that could face the world's cruelty.
With the energy from his taming space erupting around him, Clark used the ghostly steps to move as quickly as possible through the large cave chamber. The golems all targeted him while he pushed through the attacks as if they would never have the speed to reach him.
Devi began to laugh radically while confusing the golem's senses. The energy that Clark gave off had made Devi's laughter have an additional effect that pushed the energy in the air to react to him. It was chaotic.
Without fear, Crim fed off this energy as well. The energy that Clark was releasing from the edens end taming space through him was enough to cause many people to think twice. Many people would never be able to channel the inner energy from their taming space. But Clark was unique. Eh had already stepped well ahead of his class. He was already touching on things he would not normally even know about.
Unknowingly, by channeling the dragon and death energies through his body, Clark had opened another section of the taming space; eden's end. He had also put one foot on the step to getting to a domain skill that many tamers would give their lives for.
However, this was something to worry about later. Crim and Devi became the distractions while Clark the spear that crushed rock golem after rock golem. Through the smallest gaps, Clark dashed and pushed the spear. It pierced, scrapped, and cut every single golem core.
The falling rocks could not seem to end even when Clark had slashed the very last golem core. He could only stand as he watched the last rocks fell to the ground and the energy receded back in to the taming space.
