Chapter 167: Pebble Core
Chapter 167: Pebble Core
The hand that had come at Devi was a surprise to all of them. There was only a short distance between the pebbled hand and Devi as he moved backward. "They can sense you!" Clark was already in motion. He had his spear in hand and used the falling moon pierce to stab in to the still forming pebble golem.
The crack of metal and stone was simple but made an echo through the whole cave they were in. The pebble golem fell to pieces with a smooth gray core split in half. It was an easy win for Clark because he had seen the core as the pebble golem formed a body. Unfortunately, the sound of one pebble golem being defeated had called the others to wake up.
Every single pile of pebbles started to move and pull itself together. Crim started to growl softly as he kept his eyes on all of them. He knew that they were surrounded. "Aim for the cores, avoid their attacks. Just stay back to back and do not let one of them come near us."
The situation was not as dire as it could be. Clark was sure that he would be able to defeat these pebble golems easily. What he wasn't sure about was how he would having anything with tougher defenses. These pebble golems were only the news type of earth golem around. The weakest of the weak.
Between Crim's Claws and Clark's spear, the sound of cracking pebble golem cores was constant. Devi did his best to help, however, the pebble golems could sense his strange energy more than Clark and Crims. This made him an easy target to track.
"Distract that one. It looks larger." Clark gave the order. Devi moved to pull the slightly larger pebble golem away from a group of three that was approaching Crim and Clark. With a single crescent moon slash, Clark was able to expose the three smaller pebble golem cores.
Crim leaped forward and used his claws to slash each core multiple times. The resounding scraping and fall of pebbles left only one sound in the cave. The small thud of the slightly larger pebbles golem moving. The pebbles scraping together made Clark's skin crawl. It was an unpleasant sound that made him want to leave this dungeon as soon as possible.
"Crim, use your claws to slash away the pebbles and I wi-" the pebble golem suddenly stopped and shifted the pebbles that made up its body. The sound of scraping echoes even more. "Now!" Clark knew that it was calling for more pebble golems or worse.
The savage roar that crim had when he used both claws to tear away the pebbles and expose the core was mimicked by Clark's shout of victory. His spear stabbed right in to the slightly larger golem core. It didn't crack or shatter but the energy within it left. The golem fell to pieces while Clark curiously took the golem core off the tip of his spear.
Miraculously the golem core healed its cracks while Clark wondered why it was unique. He could only use the system to figure out what was happening.
'Advanced pebble golem core- uncommon
The pebble golem core normally breaks when it loses its energy or is broken. Some pebble golems gain enough earth elemental type energy to repair their cores. This is a rare case while they are growing. This core is such a core and is best used to create earth affinity weapons. Some magical attackers would even use it to make a magical staff.'
"Not too bad." Clark stored it away within his spatial ring. This would be a good item to sell later. What was really concerning was the sound of scraping pebbles approaching. The larger pebble golem had attracted more of its kind here.
"Crim, it's only one. You and Devi train with it while I figure out where we are going." Clark watched with a lucky feeling. The single pebble golem was very small and weak. It had not been alive long. This was ideal for Devi to figure out some of the battle strategies that it could use to defeat them.
The cave was a one way cave. Clark couldn't see anywhere else to go. "This might be a one way deal. No other floors, just a straight shot." This was a very good potential. It meant that Calrk just needed to push through until he reached whatever stronger golem was in charge of everything.
There were some downsides to this. If it was a straight shot, Clark, Crim, and Devi would face every golem head on. They would have to deal with everything no matter what. "Damn you, Alexander. When I am out of here I will kick you-" the sound of pebbles falling again made Clark stand up.
Debris had found that he could take advantage of his unique death energy and channel it in to his bite. This bite caused the energies to flow from the golem regardless of striking the core or not.
"So your chilling bite works best with your death energy. Focusing on a unique energy is paying off. Good job." Devi laughed a little in victory. Crim's growl responded with additional praise for his older brother.
The three of them moved through the cave silently. Clark was examining every strange pile of rocks or any walls that were odd. The flow of blue crystals on the ceiling never received a prompt from the system. Unfortunately for Clark, they were not a lucky material find. They were just part of the dungeon. It would be the same as bringing back a useless rock.
"Stop." Clark felt the cave tremble slightly. This was not the reason for stopping though. The reason was that there were signs of fighting up ahead. "No one else should be in here…"
While they approached, Clark was alerted by the system.
'Quest- clear the golem dungeon
The earth golem dungeon is about to break. The golems have been fighting to take in the strongest earth elemental energies that they can. They will leave and destroy everything within their senses if the dungeon breaks.
Reward- 10 gotcha pulls, 5 healing water, baby dragon bone.'
Thes items attracted Clark's desires. He knew that a baby dragon would have very minimal dragon essence. It would mean very little to Crim. Yet, the baby dragon bones were what Crim would have naturally. They could teach him to make a better structure for his body using the slime's changing abilities.
"Whatever is up there fighting, we will destroy." The vigor that Clark found himself to have was enough to push himself to move forward in the shadows. He worried that the senses of the golems would reach all the way to the walls of the opening he saw. Luckily, he had made the right call and distanced himself to slowly creep forward.
The thuds and shaking continued as a larger room was showing itself to Clark. He was able to see that many broken stones were around. Larger glowing crystals illuminated the entire chamber before it became a cave again. Furthermore, the masses of fighting stones were the sources of the shaking active all together.
The growing battle between them was enough to make any inexperienced tamer turn right back around.
