Chapter 159: Checking In

Chapter 159: Checking In

"Those four are your best students? And you just found them?" Doc J was walking out and about with Doc. the siblings were not always together so moments to catch up were rare.

"They are, One was already in my classes proving her own theories about wisps of all things. A beast that no one has the time to research. She has already discovered the four main elemental paths. I expect her to discover something better though than the basics."

Since Doc had met Ella, he had high hopes for her. She was a very focused student and who never gave up. It was amazing the detailed notes she already took that rivaled that of a veteran professor.

"Then there are those three. The Rolly family is already respected as merchants throughout multiple cities. It's a massive boon to be partnered with her. Not to mention her quick absorption and turn around on information. It's better than her brothers. Just don't tell him about that.

The other brother would care less, but that's just a difference in personality."

"Where it all becomes odd are my two outliers. Clark learns at an accelerated rate with luck well above others. I believe he had a special physique or taming skill. Maybe multiple. He can see right through beasts and memories everything he sees. On top of that, he has the backing of a powerful family and very high up goals."

The same could be said for Maria. Outcast from a prominent family and constantly harassed. She should have died or become some other family's pity case. Instead, she had managed to pull herself up next to powerful allies. She has impeccable archery and even relies on healing. It's a wonder that she has turned things around."

"I swear, ever since you have begun teaching you have gotten softer and softer. How could I tell mother and father that their son isn't going around fighting battles anymore? He is coddling students." Doc J laughed a little but was secretly happy for her brother. She had never seen him act in such a way.

"Speaking of battles, there should be a few dangers on the way soon. It's almost that time of year. Many dungeons will be affected by the stagnation in patrols. More and more researchers are saying that dungeon breaks will cause larger beast waves. It feels like we will have more to handle than expected."

The tone changing was not what they had come out to discuss. They had done so to keep talking about their research and check up on students. Now things were much heavier. "I know. I have already strengthened the defenses I could. I also have evacuation plans when needed.

There are fewer and fewer tamers willing to sacrifice themselves in the dangerous dungeons every year. More people just want to seal them and pretend they don't exist."

"We can only do our best. That's why I am so determined to check up on them. But for now, they don't need me." Doc walked away with his sister. They had a lot more to discuss. Especially a trade about materials that they would need for classes. Materials that Doc and his sister desperately needed to strengthen beasts in their research division.

"I wonder why Doc and Doc J didn't come over. They stopped and watched for a little while." Maria had caught sight of the two siblings from a distance between their clients. She had expected them to stop by.

"Doc probably knew that I wanted to record the data on his beasts. It has been a long time studying in his class and I have still not seen it." Ella felt that it was a missed chance. She was too curious.

"Hey, we have another person doubting our skills. Let's make it clear what we can do." Clark was falling in to a good rhythm. He and Isa were picking out the toughest customers from the growing crowd around them.

"No, you will not be going next. I have a special reservation with these four." The voice was one that the group had heard before. One that all of the crowd had also heard before.

"You're purple, right? The woman that is going for a hundred wins in the Star City coliseum battles." Clark remembered the battle and the beast that purple had.

"Yes I am. I also find the way you do business impressive. I also swear you are familiar to me. Why don't you evaluate my youngest beast? I would like a good defensive growth plan. I will even give you this if you meet my standards." Purple held up an item that most people would throw gold at constantly in an auction.

'Giant mosquito core- rare

The giant mosquito is a beast known to suck the blood of any beast it can get near. They will even drain the energy from the beast completely causing it to perish or become greatly ill after being preyed upon. The core contains the condensed energy and blood of the beasts the giant mosquito has consumed. Their core is the stomach where they stored their energy and blood in.

This is a great way for beasts to gain large amounts of energy depending on what the core contains.'

"We will take it. Show us the beast you want evaluated." Clark didn't see any hesitation in Isa's eyes. She committed knowing exactly the potential value that the giant mosquito core could have.

"Good. I thought you would like that. I hatched this little one a week ago. I collect strong snake type beasts. They are my favorite and fit right in to my battle style. Come out little one." The small blue snake slithers out of Purples' long hair.

It was hiding there from the many people.

'River serpent (hatchling)- ultra rare

The river serpent is a species of beast that has multiple growth stages. The hatchling stage is considered a babbling brook, when it grows it can reach a river stage as an adult. The reason this is called in measurements of flowing water is due to their ability to change the flow of these bodies of water.

The river serpent has been named for creating rivers in ancient times. They are a very rare species that requires a lot of water elemental materials to grow. They can use water to heal themselves and also defend themselves. They lack poison or venom but make up for it with their extremely flexible bodies that mimics the ways water moves in a river.

The material that would cause the greatest change in growth now is the body of a deep water karp. The deep water karp has scales tempered by underwater springs. The water is heavier there and can pass on dense water elemental energy to strengthen the river serpent's scales.'

"Are you sure you want a defensive beast plan? It can also take an agility style battle plan. It is more preferred for that anyways." Clark's statement brought surprise to purple. "Should I ask first, what type of beast do you think you have here? What do you think this little snake hatchling is?" Clark could tell that this might be the case of mistaken identity.

It would make sense why a beast would be considered defensive when in actuality, it was agile.
