Spirit Taming

Chapter 155: Power Divide

Chapter 155: Power Divide

Having access to a massive garden full of life was a blessing only the rich had. It took many skilled individuals to work and create such a garden. On top of that, the pool of water in the center was constantly flowing. The stream leading to it was made to also water the flowers of the entire garden. A pure work of art and ingenuity.

"So this is how the rich relax." Maria had seen a large mansion and garden but not like this. When she was still with the Mourne family, she was sure that they didn't care for such things as beauty. They were all about strength.

"If I ever have the money, I wouldn't mind having something like this. Meditating here would be nice." Clark knew he was better off in a cemetery where the energy would help Devi and Crim, but he also would enjoy the nature around him. Anyone could find peace of mind.

However, the night was setting in and the garden was a little less warm without the sun. The group moved through the path toward the entrance looking carefully at the large pool where the beast Clark wanted to see was.

Before they had left, the attendant had told them not to get close since it was a territorial beast. Clark wanted to get closer but knew that the risk of recording another beast would be too much.

What they did not know was that their footsteps had already woken the beast up. The water trembled as a single tentacle reached up. Clark saw enough for the system to prompt him.

'Hundred tentacle starfish- Ultra rare

this is an incredibly rare beast. The evolution required the awakening of an ancient bloodline found in an extremely small number of starfish beast eggs. The materials used to raise it were extremely high quality and contained very high amounts of condensed water elemental energy.

This beast has very high regenerative qualities and can be considered a city destroyer. The favorite food is blue scaled tuna beasts. They can take on predators larger than them while also using the hidden hooks on their tentacles to poison those they deem enemies.

There is no further growth for this beast. It has reached the strongest it can be. When it comes to weakness, it is countered by plant type beats that have resistances to poison and can absorb the water the thousand tentacle starfish uses to attack.'

Clark was amazed. He had never imagined that someone could raise such a powerful beast. A city Lord, a mayor, was not just in charge because of money and fame. They had power that allowed them to defend an entire city if they needed to.

Although Clark and the others wanted to know more about this, Clark became distracted again while walking. The system had just recorded the one thousandth beast that Clark had seen and analyzed using the system.

Quest- Mental Bestiary- completed

The mental bestiary is a skill that not many people possess. It is a special studying technique used by those with research aptitudes. The unique skill helps them easily memorize information regarding beasts. This skill is known to be used by the world's top scholars and can only be learned at random. The system had specifically designed a requirement to assist the host.

Requirements- analyze one thousand spirit beasts. Completed.

Reward- Mental Bestiary skill

The host will require five hours of sleep to properly adjust to the mental bestiary skill. Memorizing the information of a beast analyzed by the system will be instantaneous in the future. The host will experience minor pain while this skill is learned by the mind.'

"It's time to get going." Clark started to look a little pale. The others were worried that seeing such a large beast had gotten to him and didn't push him to stay. Even Ella felt that such a beast was not within their grasp and it was better to move on for now.

Once they had returned to the inn, everyone was fairly silent. Seeing such a powerful beast put a lot in to perspective. They were nothing but insects right now. Easily defeated tamers just playing games in comparison to the real powerhouses of a city.

"How will we beat the entire Mourne family if they have beasts that powerful too?" Maria felt that her goal to get revenge for her older sister. To tear down those that cast her out, was too far.

"Just remember, we aren't alone either. I will be stronger than that soon. Don't worry." Clark walked to the bed and didn't say another word. Maria felt that he was feeling the pressure too and had decided to put it from his mind. She didn't see the pained expression on his face while he drifted to sleep.

Through the night, Clark had dreams of every single beast he had ever seen. The in depth analysis being recorded in books and placed on an endless shelf. The information that could span lifetimes being placed right in reach. Yet, with every book he saw come to being, he felt a twinge of pain.

The pain came when he felt that his mind was being stretched. The best way he could describe the feeling was that there was pressure in his brain. One that was not truly there but mentally weighing on him. The adjustments the system made as his reward would be worth it, however, he wondered if this would be a normal experience in the future. Would he always be in pain while growing?

When Clark jolted awake, he found that Devi and Crim had left the taming space and were at his bedside. He had begun to sweat in his sleep due to the pain but he was fine now. Devi and Crim both seemed to relax greatly.

"Feeling better?" Maria was right beside him with a damp towel. "I knew that you were off after seeing that beast. I think I know what you are keeping from me. I have felt it for a while. You have beast eyes. You can see more than you let on." Clark raised an eyebrow in curiosity while taking the damp cloth.

"You have always been able to see a little more about beasts than most people. Had feelings about their weaknesses or strengths. That's why you can relate what you read so well to what you see. It's like Isa's family and fusing with elemental beasts. It's rare but those skills exist. Beast eyes are random to every human on the world."

It was clear that Maria had misunderstood. What was unfortunate was the fact that she had realized Clark was holding things back. That he had been hiding something. "It's similar to that. But I can see eggs and materials too. It's not everything but I have a little more information.

That hundred tentacle starfish had a lot of things going on. I only saw a few tentacles too. It was…powerful."

"I was going to wait for you to tell me. But seeing you having nightmares like that made me worried. I'm sorry for intruding. Maria had a downtrodden look on her face.

"Never apologize for caring. I should have been more honest. I have this weird set of skills and I didn't want to talk about it. It's different and risky." Clark truly worried that if he told someone about the system he would be a tool for the powerful to use. But this was a good way to hide some of what he did. It also was easier to pass it off as an existing rare skill.

The two sat in silence for a little bit before Clark mustered his will to stand up. "I will get myself cleaned up. We can take a walk through the city and see what we can find?" Maria just nodded her head softly.

"Hey, Maria. Ella and I have to work out some small growth plans for the beasts around here. We have some common ones we want to sell later. Just meet us here after you and Clark finish shopping." Isa had a sneaky grin when she turned around. But Maria just smiled a little wider.

After getting ready to go out, Clark realized that it was still very early. "There might not be much to do right away."

"That's finer. I want to see the city before things get busy. It's the first time I have ever left home." Clark was hit with the realization that he was in the same boat as Maria. They had both never left their homes. Their focus on improving and filling their schedule had made them forget to stop to enjoy things. To explore somewhere new.

"I bet we can check out the beast egg market. I wonder what we can see there." Clark tried his best to come up with ideas.

"Only if we can get some of the local street food too. I want to try it all!" Maria was already pulling Clark out the door. He couldn't help but wonder if he would still be here if things hadn't gone so wrong with his family. It was odd how life progressed.
