Chapter 129: We All Know
Chapter 129: We All Know
"Oh, don't be like that. I have heard about your second beast when mythical beasts are brought up. Ghosts are a myth, but they used to be more common. They are recorded on ruins out in the wilds. Even some dungeons used to be owned by ancient races, and civilizations. They recorded ghost type beasts among other things." Doc was sure that Clark would try and keep Devi hidden.
"Ella, Isa, Doc…This is Devil. And Crim! Stop hiding, I am not angry that you weren't here. I told you to go play. I'm glad you came back when you sensed something was wrong." Crim came from the treeline and Devi went to meet his brother.
"Wait, Maria already knew?" Isa caught on to this fact as she relaxed. She had stored the flowing water orb away and realized that her ice maiden had also hidden away after realizing she was safe.
"I did. Clark is going to help me with my goals. He is my partner and that's all there is to it." Maria wiped the tears from her eyes and stood defiantly. She would not let anyone be upset about her and Clark keeping secrets. It was only right that the two of them held their ground.
"No one is angry at you for keeping your personal business personal. But even though you wish to hide it, these two already know you are Maria Mourne. exiled daughter of the Mourne family and the target of the Cain family.
And what you two don't know is that Clark is the orphan whose parents were killed in a fire by the youngest Mourne family son." Doc had more cards hidden up his sleeve than Clark had realized.
"Your mentor may not have told me, but I have my ways. Many beasts in this city were advised by me. Many who have no relation to the Mourne family at all. I am one of the few prominent beast researchers that refuses business with them and a few families related to them. The reason? I don't like them.
They traffic beasts for value. I despise that. No beast should be hunted to death for profit."
The entire group knew there was more to this story, however, pushing in to it would lead to a much worse atmosphere. "What do you plan to do about it?" Clark wanted to hear what Doc was going to do. What he was thinking was a mystery at the moment.
"Nothing, you are my student. All four of you are. Most students fall under the rich or powerful. Smart students that work together with their strengths are rare in my field. Isolated genius like Ella is more common. But she isn't isolated.
She can finally show her strength."
The Mourne family outcast. The genius orphan. The beast breeding prodigy from a unique family. The rising merchant. All four of you are gems without guidance. All you need is a true battle expert to act as your muscle and you will have a full crown of gems.
Think about it while we walk back to the campsite I made for everyone."
"Not until Clark lets me heal him." Maria sent a glare at Doc that even stopped him for a moment. The phrase; if looks could kill, came to mind.
"No problem, I will preserve the water bound serpent skin while you do that." Doc walked away a little letting the four have their moment.
"You really have a mythical beast type. And you hid it from me? I couldn't see it?" The way Ella spoke showed her disbelief. She felt that she had missed something right in front of her eyes. Something that she should have seen. " I know I miss things when it comes to people…but…why?"
"Ella, they have to have a good reason. Clark and Maria aren't bad people. I was able to get a feeling for them quickly. My flame sprite and Ice maiden have spiritual energy. Neither of them had any bad feelings about them. Just sadness." This was something that Clark had never realized about spiritual beasts.
That they had a strange sixth sense about other beasts.
"Maria, I will tell them. Is that alright?" Clark saw Maria think and then give him an iron gaze.
"You can, if they stay with us that's their choice, but I don't mind keeping things covered up." Maria was not going to throw away her and Clark's goals. She knew that if the worst happened she had the strength to throw away her pride and defeat a classmate to keep a secret.
"Agreed…Maria and I will tear down the Mourne family and fix the corruption they breed. Too many have died because of their power abuse. Too many have suffered. It's the reason I found Clara Mane and pledged to join them in their fight against the family. I have a unique beast, one that not many have seen. I have the eyes to find rare beasts.
And I have the luck to meet people that can make me stronger faster."
There was a moment that Clark let it settle in. he wasn't telling them he was just going to arrest people like the city guards. He was telling them he was going to annihilate an entire family that held a lot of power in the city they all lived in.
"I used to have an older sister. My family killed her and told me I was worthless. Kicked me out with whatever money I had and said they did not support me. Letting me live was the only kind thing they did for me. Clark has helped me already. Helped Lit become a princess jellyfish.
A beast that no one else seemed to have either. You have to understand, that we are not speaking with foolish intentions."
"Then this isn't business. This is more than that. I never had more than business and the first time I find something like it and I might have to kill people?" Isa was a little stunned. Yet she did not shy away. "My father and mother told me that there is one thing to value over business at all times. The bonds I choose to make.
My father is a softie. I will help you."
All eyes moved to Ella who was still silently watching. She didn't seem shaken by this at all. She was stone faced waiting for everyone to give her the chance to speak properly.
"I thought at first that you didn't trust me. My family is weird. My brother is a battle maniac. My father is a collector of rare materials. My mother is obsessed with making her own weapons out of strange materials like my grandfather. I am a research and beast breeding prodigy.
Nothing about my family is normal. But we all share the value that humans should work together to become the best we can be and survive this world."
The core value of the Green family was very well known. It was why the people revered them so much. They were open and clear. It was easy to say that they lacked enemies in the general public. "The Mourne family does not support this city becoming the greatest it can be. Just the powerful becoming the best they can be.
I never lied to myself and said I would never kill a thing. I can stand with you both as well."
