Vol. 12 - Chapter 688 - And the Angel and Devil's job are......
What made Angel and Devil a strong job were their overall offensive, defensive, support, and healing capabilities alongside the arsenal of strong skills and spells they could learn.
The fact that you could only have one character each for either job—since the game only allowed two members headcount for the respective noble category—should be a clear example of how strong they're.
Now that I'd waxed about their strength, the next question was which job to recommend.
"Eden is in dire lack of healer at present, and then the tank. Regardless of what you chose, healing spells are a staple in any of the Angel's category jobs, so this is a bit easier to choose. The Devil's staple are debuff spells, so it would be very much appreciated if your choice is a job specialising in healing."
"I would love to give the healer a try!"
"I am quite looking forward to the tank."
At my suggestion, the elder of the twin, Elisa, showed no objection to the Devil healer. Finalina was a bit of a surprising case. I didn't think she'd wanted to be the tank—well, more of a hybrid tank x healer job.
I had selected a tank from earlier screening as well, but we're still hanging at the bare minimum threshold. We would only continue to grow further, so I'd wanted to keep all decks ready as much possible to keep progress hiccup free. It's just—
"Hey, Zephyr-kun, are you sure about Fina-chan? I mean, will she be fine with that stature of her?"
Misato appeared worried. I mean, she was right... if we take note of the visual impact.
"I know what you mean, Misato, but Angels are almost match made for shields. Despite what you think for that... err, stature, she'd be perfectly fine. Have you not seen Lulu? She doesn't even flinch even with damage."
"I know, but it's just..."
I guess even if you knew in your mind, the heart was a different thing, such were the woes of visual impact, eh?
Honestly, even I was like that with Lulu first. I was sure my heart would shatter through the confinement of my ribcage. Well, she was hella cool though.
"Relax. What I said earlier. They're good with shields, and much of their skills further strengthen the control on them, while also providing a gradual ramp up of defensive strength. There are also other styles aside from simple frontal tanks; like shield parry, and counters with a sword. Plus, since the healing spells were stable for any job, they've the means to sustain themselves too."
Beauty lies in simplicity, wasn't it a quote? It was classic style, but cool nonetheless. A pure tank with self-sustainance. They're sought after by many. There were only so many tank jobs capable of healing themselves after all.
As I explained this, I felt Finalina’s heavy eyelids twitch slightly. Then, She turned toward me.
"I would like to give that a go, teacher."
"Got you interested, did I?"
It did sound cool enough to try it out.
As a "Viscount," she likely preferred the style of charging gallantly into the enemy like Lulu does.
Well, that meant the Little Girl Assault Squad had found another addition. It didn't sound that bad thinking about it. ...Though they're more like kids than little girls. Oh well.
I am glad she didn't ask to be Devil Tank. Devils were unable to use shields. Due to their nihil aptitude for shields, Devils were primarily magic tanks. There were even some jobs that allowed the berserk tank style which had users tank the attacks simply through their fleshy body.
But I kept that to myself. A little girl using her body to play the role? Nah, that was stuff made for a bizarre nightmare. I barely survived watching Lulu, so this was even more out of question.
"Alright, Fina-chan sounds fine, but then what about Elisa-chan? ...It's quite hard to imagine Devil and Healer as one."
"It'd be alright, because she's not going to be an ordinary healer. The Devil category healer came in a different shape. So then, Elisa."
"Yes, sir!"
"Nice spirit. I want you to be healer and debuffer, but do you have any other preference? The other options are buffers, attackers. Then physical versus magic dmg healer. Which one picks your interest?"
"A physical healer...... Hmm. I know nothing about the Devil. Is there something, like, I can appear cuter and charm my opponent?"
"Dear sister, you are asking for impossible with that body of ours."
"Geez, you're such a buzz killer, Fina-chan! You know, it wouldn't hurt to have some dreams once in a while! In case you forget, I am going to be the glamorous devil."
Finalina’s half-closed eyes narrowed even further, staring at her sister with a look that spoke volumes.
A Devil job that made its user appear cute, captivating, and was full of romanticism. As it happened, there was indeed an option.
"Alright, Elisa. In that case, how about this one?"
I leaned in and whispered into Elisa's ear.
"How is this even any bit connected to what I said?!"
Elisa retorted back at first when she heard, but gradually, a keen interest sparked into those eyes.
"—But that’s fine. As a fact, that’s very fine! I’ve decided. I’m going to charm every monster in existence with my allure!"
Mhm, mhm. I’m glad she decided.
After all, when you think of a female Devil, the standard expectations were skimpy clothing and killer looks.
Answering such demands, the game obviously had those kinds of skills and magic.
Well, since the game was rated B (12 and up), it’s much tamer fanservice. But hey, there's no limit to the imagination.
The bare extent were suggestive implications like 'Do you feel pain? Do you want me to check it out for you~' but the follow up was simply casting a healing spell.
Anyway, after further exchange of preference, we decided on their roles and jobs.
"I want to be vanguard. I mean, it'd be a tank job."
"I want a rearguard role! Someone who can use magic!"
Finaline decided to be a physical vanguard. Elisa opted for the mage rearguard. They'd balanced it perfectly.
There were playstyle like mine, proficient in both the physical and magic, however that required substantial investment. But due to limited resources like skill points, it was much recommended to be a master of one instead of none.
"Alright, I guess we've decided everything of important. With no further ado, let's pick up the jobs for you. Elisa, I will start with you."
"Yes, please!"
Elisa braced herself with a sharp salute. I can see a bit of a playful spirit in her. That was good. I like to enjoy everything myself! I felt like Elisa and I could get along well.
"My recommended job for you is «Nightmare». It's high-ranking high-tier."
As the name implied, «Nightmare» was about manipulating dreams. Attuned for debuffs, the job's forte lies in putting the opponent into «Sleep», «Charm». or «Confusion». It also had abilities that offered high resistance shred which were extremely useful against tanky opponents.
In particular, Nightmare’s «Sleep» debuff was unique on its own. Typically, the «Sleep» debuff would come off once an attack was struck, but not with «Nightmare». For the duration, the opponent would remain in «Sleep» even if they're pushed to KO'ed. …I presume that's what it meant when they say ‘descend into an eternal sleep.’
Aside from that, it heals plenty. It wouldn't be a problem to play as a simple healer too. Her ultimate role would be healer and debuffer, and occasionally attacker.
I bet she would show her opponents pleasent—well, from our convenience atleast—dreams.
"Nightmare... Nightmare...... Okay. I will do my best!"
Elisa repeated the name several times before looking back at me and nodding.
There was no trace of the gloom she had earlier about the «Devil». She was brimming with motivation.
Her ability to switch gears was impressive for someone who looked ten years old. It was kinda cool. I’m glad she’s fired up.
But seriously, why was it that every «Viscount» I encountered were all such little heroes.
"What about me, teacher?"
"Ah, right. Finalina's turn now."
"Techer, please call me just Fina. I like it that way."
"Oh? Alright then, Fina. Time to choose your job."
"Badump-Badump."
"Why is even your heart racing all of a sudden, Onee-sama? And, you're not being too sly to spell the Badump out."
"You're such a buzz killer. Do you know what, Fina-chan?!"
"So, Fina. I want you to have—«Archangel», a high-ranking high-tier job!"
"«Archangle»......"
This «Angel» category job's forte was in its blank slate at start. It's up to its user on which role do you'd want it to push for. And no matter which direction you chose, it was excellent in any of them.
Even if you’re a solo player, the job packed unmatched strength to pave the way. Consequently, its popularity was sky-high in the game.
Then again, much of its popularity was also courtesy of its unique skill—«Archangel Avatar», a transformation skill. Any pursuer of adventure could never resist its allure! I couldn't wait to see Fina in the transformation.
Anyway, the two had already learned how to properly upgrade their job. They just needed to follow that by heart and they would've equaled no one! Exaggeration maybe, but that’s the general gist.
Once everything had been set, I immediately pulled them with myself, and after two hours of running around, they’d finally fulfilled all the conditions for the jobs.
There was just one pity; «Plushies of Angel and Devil» was a consumable item. At use, it would disappear. I just hope Lulu won't be too sad.
Much like the jewels during advanced job ascension, the plushies turned into clusters of glittering particles and were absorbed into Elisa and Fina, officially ascending them to the «Angel» and «Devil» category.
The rest was simple. They left to participate in the job transfer ongoing as I saw them off.
It should be an hour later when the two returned, becoming the first-ever «Nightmare» and «Archangel» of the world.
Well, they're soon followed by the frenzied researchers, firing questions one after another at me, though I had them politely turned back, but that was a story for another day.
