Vol. 12 - Chapter 689 - Woes of Zephyr: Too Many Girls
Vol. 12 - Chapter 689 - Woes of Zephyr: Too Many Girls
"Say, Misato."
"Hmm? What's it, Zephyr-kun?"
"The eight new members are all... girls, aren't they?"
"Mhm, so they are~."
It was after I saw off Elisa and Fina. I had thought to give another glance at the paper that had the selected candidates names written, and now here I was, cradling my head in arms.
This was truly bad.
Tomoyo «The Immovable Shielder»
Shalon «The Princess of Castle»
Katalina «Closeted Maiden»
Fraumina «Alpha Dog»
Rosetta «Princess Knight»
Orihime «Mermaid Princess»
Elisa «Nightmare»
Finalina «Archangel»
...All of them were girls. And saving, Tomoyo, everyone had high-ranking high-tier jobs.
Of course, such incredible jobs had no complaints from me. But, looking at this... yeah, I really think we should look for more boys now.
Still clutching my head, I read Tomoyo's profile.
Tomoyo was the girl Sierra had faced during inter-class competition, and was lavishly praised by Rina. She was among the 2nd group of candidates, and it appeared she also had attended the first-term's lecture.
Her job might only be «The Immovable Shielder», but she proved herself to be far talented. For Eden that was in dire need of tanks, I wanted her in the guild.
But, she's another girl. At this point, anything would work, even high-ranking low-tier job guys. C'mon boys, give me your best!
Though, of course, I wasn't going to reject Tomoyo just because she's a girl, much less she was even my student.
I stamped the seal of «Arc-Arcadia» on the application form of Tomoyo.
"Misato, is there not a single talented boy in your knowledge? It would be better if he's a healer."
"Mhm, there are. I do know a few high-ranking healers, but... their dispositions aren't suited for Eden. You definitely wouldn't want them in Eden with the number of noble girls it has."
"Oh, boy."
"So, have you decided on anything for the last spot?"
"That's the problem though."
I had Tabasa-senpai and Shalon join Eden, so that left one more vacant spot in «Arc-Arcadia». And the only male in the subordinate guild was Celestine. I was hoping to find another boy.
Alas, much to my chagrin, I didn't find any noteworthy boy.
"Why in the world are there so few applications from boys?"
"Well~... it's just, there were overwhelmingly more applications from girls."
I know what she meant.
Eden was brimming with girls, so this might give other girls an idea that they'd much better chances to join it.
In retrospect, boys must think of Eden as some hell-level obstacle course. And anyone who was there just for girls was rejected by Celestine. It's no surprise why we'd few applications form them.
"From your expression, I think you've figured out the reason, Zephyr-kun."
Misato appeared to have murmured something, but I was too occupied in my thoughts and missed that.
"Hmm... a healer boy, someone who isn't a skirt-chaser. Where can I find such a persona, eh?"
"Why do I feel like you're describing a Saint? You're asking too much from boys in their adolescence."
Ugh... yeah, I did realise it myself. Even I had ended up thinking 'Yeah, no chance they exist' when I murmured that out.
...No, wait a minute. There were Reglam, Mert, and Celestine. Surely, there must be someone who fits the bill.
"Then how about a boy who's already given his heart to someone else? ...On another thought, this was asking too much from gamers."
I mean, "Go die, you normie" were the common sentiment among a good chunk of gamers whenever they saw a couple.
Well, for some mysterious reason, this wasn't the case against Reglam. If anything, others only felt their heart exorcising such thought at a glance at him.
Of course, I was not among that 'majority.' Anyway, Misato shook her head at my remark.
"I think it's better to keep them, in particular, away from the guild. We would only see breakups happening."
"........."
I get it. The girls in Eden were strong, adorable, and beauties that could move the hearts of thousands with just a simple gesture.
Any boy—not you, Reglam—would turn their head toward them at least once. And eyeing another girl meant the prelude to quarrel. It would devolve into arguments, and eventually even break up.
Wasn't that strange? Like, to think even normies were NG. It just meant fate ran against us to bring a boy aboard.
"Then, Zephyr-kun. We're already out of time to have another temporary test. Are you going to publish the result now?"
"......Truly a pity. Reject everyone else."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, aside from a male candidate, I have already selected what our guild needs now. There's no reason to fill the last spot immediately then. So, yeah, proceed with that."
"Alright, then I will immediately notify the candidates."
And thus, the curtain closed on our second mass interview.
Acquiring seven category holders this time around was a massive win. We managed to secure the much-needed tanks and healers we were aiming for, so it's safe to say we knocked it out of the park.
I'm keeping our single remaining slot open just in case we stumble upon a promising guy who fits the bill. Well, it also acts as a buffer in case someone we absolutely must have suddenly pops up. Like Tabasasenpai, for instance. All things considered, we figured it was high time to call it a wrap on the mass interviews.
We would soon be welcoming a hectic time.
All of our new recruits were currently tied up in other guilds, so it'll take at least a week for them to jump ship and officially join Eden. Throw in the upcoming exams and class reshuffling, and we might be looking at around ten days.
Taking all the upcoming changes in account, I guess we'd have them after the dust settles on the class changes. I was already looking forward to meeting them!
"Well then, we'd better hit the books for the exams too."
"Only four days left until test day, after all. I heard everyone at the guild is already holding study sessions."
Misato chimed in.
"Then let's crash their party once we finish up here."
Right. Just like Misato said, we only had four days left until the extra exams for the class reshuffle. They'll be held over a span of two days: Wednesday and Thursday.
The duration was short in contrast to the last term's exam, moreso because the extra exam was only to determine class.
The reason it's shorter than last time is because this special exam is strictly for changing classes. Word was that there will be a lot of shuffling across the majors this time around, so the proficiency tests were limited to the big three core subjects: Literature, Math, and History. That's the agenda for Wednesday.
Thursday was a bit of a different beast. Apparently, students would gather at their prospective Majors and Departments to take specialized aptitude tests. I guess you could call it a "class entrance exam" of sorts?
Naturally, those who weren't looking to transfer will just take something akin to a first term practical exam. Since we're still fresh into the second semester, it'll probably serve as a litmus test to see who slacked off and who ground it out over summer break.
The members of Eden were sharp as tacks on that front, so our only real hurdle was Wednesday's mandatory written subjects.
The folks who were helping move into the guild house yesterday were top scorers, while the at-risk squad apparently got a head start on studying. They told us to join them the second we wrapped up the interviews.
Celestin, by the way, was bogged down with the post-interview paperwork and the like, so he's slated to meet up with us later.
Looks like everyone's holed up at the guild house today, so we might as well head over.
Special exams, huh? I'm actually kinda pumped for them.
Time to knock 'em out of the park and score another perfect hundred!
