Vol. 12 - Chapter 687 - Who will be the Angel, Who will be the Devil?

"I'll be «Angel»!"

"I will be the «Angel»."

And as I expected, either of the twins sought the Angel category.

After all, «Devil» had its specific reputation. Though it was strong. 

The twin sisters, having reached an impasse, faced off against each other.

"Onee-sama, please leave this to me. I will show you I can be the perfect Angel. So, I am counting on you for the Devil."

"I may have relent at other times, but this is where I draw the line, Fina-chan! I will be the Angel! ...No, if anything, I am the Angel!"

"Pfft."

"Hey! You just laughed, didn't you?! Is this how you treat your big sister—"

"Please, don't make me laugh."

"'Don't make me laugh'?! That's what you have to say?!"

"You've more the making of Devil already, Onee-sama. You even ate my pudding without my permission. Who does that to their little sister?"

"Wow, just wow?! I-Is this what you say to your big sister?! You're so mean to bring it now of all time!"

And thus broke out a holy banter among two sisters over who would be the better angel. 

Heh, so Finalina ate the pudding? I didn't expect she would have such a side given her gentle countenance. Though her expression remained still unperturbed, a blue vein popped on the forehead seemingly a sign of her anger.

"Onee-sama, please leave this to your little cute sister. Everything will work out that way."

"Y-you speak as if I do not have the same adorable face! If you can do it, then so can I..."

It appeared the banter was going in circles. The younger sister tried to overwhelm the other, but the older sister didn't give up. ...Wait, I guess she might in fact be cornered? 

Just as I was thinking that, the older of them, Elisa, turned toward me.

"So, I just would like to confirm if there's any possibility we both may be the Angel?"

Her steadfast momentum was nowhere to see. She appeared slightly shrunk, her speech turning polite. 

She probably realized the odds were against her and was trying to find a way for herself to become an «Angel» too.

"I'm afraid not."

I had no choice but to shake my head.

Ideally, two «Angels» were possible, but that wasn't the objective. I went through a lot of trouble to get a second , so I really want both of them at the very least.

However, forcing someone into a Job they hate wasn't great either. My hesitation must have come across.

The younger sister grabbed her elder sister's shoulder firmly, dragged her to the corner of the room, and began to persuade her. 

"Onee-sama, must we really argue? This is our only chance. The teacher is helping us to acquire the job most suitable for us. What if in our disagreement, we might wash away our hand from the offer?"

"U-Ugh... that's quite a possibility."

"We have no one to rely on but the teacher if we want to try for a high-ranking job. The job transfer event started today, and there are only three hours left until our turn. There is no turning back for us."

"D-Demon, huh... I wonder if it would suit me..."

"...But, if you truly dislike becoming the Devil, Onee-sama, then we can just turn down the offer."

"What?"

"We're twins. Sure, we might be arguing over it, but it doesn't mean I want you to go through something you don't like. If you say so, I will rescind the offer alongside you."

"Huh—huuuuh?!"

"What am I saying is you should think it over properly. But remember this; I will always be with you. I would rather have the intermediate-rank job than have you force yourself." 

"Fi... Fina-chaaaan~~!!"

Elisa hugged her little sister Finalina, weeping with emotion. Finalina hugged her back, patting her head and back gently.

What a moving scene.

"But, um, shouldn't you think over too if you can try to be the Devi—"

"No chance. I wish to be an Angel."

"Fina-chaaaan!?"

That's odd. They still appear the same, yet that touching scene just vanished like it was never there to begin with.

They certainly are one interesting pair of siblings.

Well, if they dislike the Devil so much, I guess I will just have to give up on it. 

Maybe, I would persuade them a bit, but if even that proved futile... Oh well, the «Hero» is plenty strong. I would see the Devil another time. 

So, I called out to the sisters, specifically the older one, who was crouching in the corner having a 'secret' conversation that I could hear perfectly.

"Elisa—ah, is it alright if I call you Elisa?"

"Ah, yes! I do not mind at all, I mean, what is it!?"

Elisa jumped, startled by the sudden voice, and her polite speech faltered.

Her sister Finalina rubbed her back in support.

"Sister, fight-o."

"Y-Yeah! I'll do this."

"You don't have to be so tense. It'll be easier for you if you relax a bit and talk normally."

"Y-you think so? Is this tone okay?"

"Yeah, that's fine."

I was the interviewer, possibly soon-to-be their guildmaster, and also their teacher. I thought using honorifics would be a bit odd at this point, so I just decided to speak casually. 

I don't call them senpai anyway. And honestly, they didn't even feel like my seniors.

"So, continuing where we left off, I see that you might be hesitating about taking the Devil, Elisa."

"W-Well, that's..."

"I get it. Devil doesn't have a sound ring, and a Job stays with you for life, so I understand being cautious."

I spoke to her gently. 

It would take someone spectacularly odd even among fellow humans to immediately say yes for Devil. 

Thinking about it that way, her reluctance was perfectly understandable.

But in the «Dungeon Activity», the Devil was just a job, far from being the actual existence it was. Well, some skills could transform the appearance into that, but that's not the main point. I wanted her to take it a bit more lightly. I thought some more details would do better, so I decided to explain about it.

"However the Devil is truly strong. Like, seriously. You have my words on that. You will not turn into a Devil, you will just be strong. Besides, it's also ranked mid-tier among high-ranking jobs." 

"......"

"Devil could be the vanguard, or even rearguard, equip a variety of weapons, and have excellent synergy with debuffs. And the most interesting fact is you can decide to be an attacker, tank, or even healer with no reduction in stats. Its forte is in summons and debuffs. You can tank while attacking, or weaken enemies with debuffs, it's seriously strong. It also has access to instant death skill which can kill anything, saving the bosses, with simple attacks. Isn't it cool to tank an attack and then send that opponent back to the light?"

A huge majority of the Devil's skills were dark element oriented. 

There were infinite playstyles to the Devil, and this was the charm of the job; you could be whoever you decide to be. 

"There are also Devil jobs attuned to be attackers. Their self-buffs are strong. You can greatly enhance your stats through means of sacrifice. It might not be pretty in words, but you can in fact go solo with the enhanced stats. There's also a Dark Healer type job where you can use the healing spells to drain opponent's HP or MP instead. Regardless of your decision, I will guide you to the perfect pinnacle of the job. That's why, just try to think about it. Would you like to try being «Devil»?"

I ended my explanation there. 

The twin sisters blinked in surprise as they listened to my speech, but Elisa reacted to my question.

"Um, is it one of the stronger high-ranking jobs?"

I pumped my fist internally at her question. I've got her interested!

"It is. Increased damage, improved buffs, piercing attacks through debuffs, damage reduction... no matter how you look at it, it's strong."

"If I get it, will I be able to win in Guild Battles?"

"Of course. It's very strong in PvP. You can completely roll your opponent as long as they haven't prepared any countermeasures."

"Is it stronger than an «Angel»?"

"That's... the answer isn't as straightforward. To be precise, they have different fortes."

"I see..."

I think I have her. One more push, perhaps?

"So, what do you think, Elisa? To be honest, I would be really glad to have you in the guild."

"W-whaat?! Err... it would gladden you if I am in the guild?"

"It's not nice to play favourite."

"I didn't forget you, Finalina. I would be happy to have you two aboard."

When I said that, Finnalina put on a nonchalant face and looked the other way, while Elisa visibly blushed and started grinning. On a second look, Finalina appeared to be slightly shy, too. 

"So you need me, right?"

"Yeah, I need you, Elisa."

I looked Elisa in the eyes and nodded.

"O-ooh. M-May I call you Master?"

"If this is what you want."

"Woah, Onee-sama?"

Finalina gave her elder sister a meaningful glance, but it was fine by me. I mean, this was nothing compared to having a Devil job holder in our guild. 

"Err, do you think I will grow more if I get the Devil?"

Ah, now that was an unexpected question.

"Mhm, I do not know much about it. But the Devil I know, they're one of the glamorous beaut—"

"Yes, I will be the «Devil»! And then get the promotion to Eden!"

"Uh-huh, my elder sister has sold her soul to the devil."

Not even waiting for me to finish my words,  Elisa had already struck a pose with a clenched fist, announcing her decision.

I honestly had zero inkling how the job would affect their growth. All I had for reference was simply the characters with Devil from the game. If anything, can the «Viscount» even grow tall? doubt was just the tip of my tongue, but I kept it to myself. She had finally made her mind, so I should be welcoming her instead of dousing water on her spirit.

"I am going to be the Glamorous Devil Girl!"

"Yes, that's the spirit! Let's do our best together!"

I welcomed her by placing a hand on her small shoulder. As for other thoughts—glamorous girl? Did she mispronounce the glamorous young girl?—I kept them inside my head.

"Mhm! I will do my best!"

Thus, with Elisa stepping in to take the Devil job, the twins were officially the part of Eden.

"...Well, if Onee-sama is looking forward to it, then that is good."

Finalina also joined as an «Angel».

All the pieces were at their places. Only one last trial remained—let's get them to their new jobs right off!
