Vol. 12 - Chapter 686 - A meeting with the Twins!
The following Saturday morning arrived.
Misato, Celestin, and I were in the lounge, waiting to meet up with those twin sisters.
“Good morning! I’m Elisa, the older half of the cutie twin sisters here to support you!”
“Good morning. I’m the younger sister, Finalina. We’re in your care today, Instructor.”
And so, the introductions kicked off.
Despite being identical twins, their personalities were day and night apart.
They both sported long golden hair and stunning azure eyes—a perfect picture of the classic blonde-haired, blue-eyed look.
Physically, they appeared to be about ten years old. They definitely struck me as older than Lulu, though they still fell short of Marie-senpai.
But despite their identical appearance, their expressions and dispositions were distinct enough that telling them apart was actually a breeze.
Elisa, the older sister, came across as a bubbly girl who wore her happiness on her sleeve.
Her beaming smile was fantastic. Her voice was crisp, and you could tell at a glance she had a bright personality.
As for her choice of words... well, it felt like she was trying a bit too hard to sound grown-up.
In contrast, Finalina, the younger sister, gave off a quiet vibe. Her eyelids were half closed, almost like Karua and her sleep appearance. Her expression remained largely still, save for a modest smile. She was the cool younger sister—almost as if her older sibling had sapped all her energy.
Her speech was... well, serious.
"Instructor," huh? That’s a fresh change of pace. Not bad.
That was my first impression of them.
As the pair finished their self-introductions, Misato chimed in.
“Oh, just a heads-up for you two. Don't go flirting with Zephyrus-kun just for kicks, okay? You might not want to deal with horror later, believe me.”
Hang on, Misato. What do you mean, 'deal with horror later'?
“Yes ma'am! Does that mean it’s okay if we’re serious!?”
“It would be an even more unimaginable horror If you're indeed serious.”
Misato deftly parried Elisa’s question.
From the sidelines of that exchange, the younger sister, Finalina, cut her sister down mercilessly.
“You can ignore my sister's opinion. Please, go on.”
“Mhm, Fina-chan, that’s mean! You know you’re interested too!”
“Onee-sama, our future is at stake here. Please take this seriously.”
“That is exactly why I’m using my charms, dragging him over here until he no longer can turn back even if he wanted to.
“...I hardly think we have the bodies to charm anyone.”
“Gaah!? D-don't say that when you have the exact same body as me! You're making me depressed...”
As Finalina spoke, she patted her own flat chest with both hands for emphasis. Elisa clutched her heart with a grunt, as if Finalina's words scratched where it hurt.
They sure were close, eh?
“B-But it'll be fine! I just need to go through «Job Change» and get rid rid «Lolita», then I will still have a chance to gain that stunning figure! Yeah, we're just at the start!"
“...I suppose so. Since you've realised what's important now, let's move on. It is embarrassing to discuss this in front of the instructor, anyway.”
It seemed the two were done with their banter.
Finalina turned to me, her eyes signaling me "please continue", so I decided to reset the mood by starting with our own introductions.
“Right, then it's our turn. I'm Zephyr, the Guild Master of «Eden». Good to meet you.”
“I'm Misato, also from «Eden». I handle stuff like scouting and so on. Nice to meet you!”
“I am Celestin, Guild Master of «Eden»'s subordinate guild, «Arc Arcadia». It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
“ “Pleasure to meet you.” ”
Heh, now that was a perfectly synchronized response. They really were twins. Their personalities might differ, but they act by one heart.
“Now, let's get right down to business. I believe Misato has already briefed you about the details over chat. I hear you've agreed, but let me confirm it. Are you sure you have no second thought, and do not want the Hero category job? And to be clear, we will provide every single item required for the «Angel» and «Devil» ourselves.”
First, I had to confirm their intent. We couldn't start without that.
They're still the «Viscount» category holders after all. Even if they turn it down, there were other high-ranking jobs to go through, and at their choice, I might even invite them to Eden.
However, right now, the twin sisters were the only candidates willing to take on the «Angel» and «Devil» roles. So, I'd like to have them personally.
As a fact, after picking them up, I had Misato suggest me a dozen more candidates. However, neither of them passed through for various reasons. Even if they'd the zeal to keep up with Eden's pace, Celestin would shoot them down. Then, if they'd passed through his clearance, the candidates rejected to be the pioneer of some unknown job.
And some were offended the moment we suggested a job different from the specific one they had worked so hard to manifest.
We're utterly helpless.
In particular, a majority of the cases fell into the last situation. There had been more pushback at the providing condition—that they acquire the job to join the guild.
It was a natural reaction, after all.
And that's why, in that regard, these twin sisters were a rare case; they were willing to leave their class selection entirely up to us from the start. I felt a peng of regret inside me that we're having them acquire other job when they could've been «Hero» equivalent. But, there 'as per you command' stance was also what made them so important.
Otherwise, I couldn't even get anyone to agree to become an «Angel» or «Devil».
I realized for the first time just how hard it is to find such aggressive talent. I steeled my resolve. It was more important to turn the Viscount sisters into an «Angel» or «Devil», even if it meant giving up on the «Hero» category.
Elisa, the older sister, straightened her posture and replied.
“Of course, we do not mind in the slightest. There is no other offer as honorable and generous as this. We promise that once we have taken the job, we shall pledge our loyalty to «Eden» at all times, until the day we graduate.”
I was a bit taken aback by her sudden change in tone. Her demeanor was filled with elegance and a firm resolve.
And on that note, Big Sis. So you’re actually capable of acting proper? I noted it in my mental diary.
Next, Finalina, the younger sister, gave her answer.
“We vow to serve «Eden» and walk this path together. Even if we assume an unknown job, we shall spare no effort and strive to become outstanding individuals worthy of the guild.”
Finalina's voice was somewhat soft, yet her words carried considerable weight.
Ah, they've appeared before us with their resolve.
"I will ask you one last time—is this your final decision? The items I will provide are quite expensive, so you will not be able to just walk away after using them. It will require enormous effort as well. At the very least, I will put you through training until you're at the level of a B-rank guild."
"Our decision is final. In fact, I intend to work hard enough to attain S-Rank strength!”
“The same goes for me. I am ready.”
There was not a single cinch in their resolve. I was very grateful for that, truly.
Alright then, I see no other problem as well. As long as they didn’t slack off, they would become strong. There was no point in saying anything more to dampen their enthusiasm now.
I also finalised my decision to use the «Plushie of Angel and Devil» on them.
I made the decision to use the «Heaven-Demon Plushies» on the sisters and have them assume the «Angel» and «Devil» class categories.
“You’re selected!”
“ “!! Thank you so much!” ”
At my declaration, the two thanked me in perfect unison.
When they looked up, Elisa’s cheeks were flushed as she savored the moment, her lips quivering as if she were trying to contain her overflowing joy. Finalina, too, wore the brightest smile she had shown all day.
Yeah. That’s really a nice reaction.
If you asked me what exactly was nice, I’d be stuck for words. It was just a feeling how precious the scene felt.
As I watched their expressions with a warm, fuzzy feeling in my chest, Misato, who had been waiting by the side, dropped the nerve-wracking question.
“So, which one is going to be the «Angel», and which one takes the «Devil»?”
Now that might just be the ultimate choice right there.
T/N - Just notice at the reminder illustrations are missing. Was meant to update today, but I most likely shoved them in some nowhere folder. Will update ASAP.
