Chapter 148 148: Ch 148: In the Wrong Place

"Hey, are you sure it's alright? What if we are being tricked? Should we rethink this?"

Jenna asked in a worried voice as she looked at the place marked on the map. Her eyes moved to Andrew and his party, who had agreed to enter the system space.

She felt a little worried about these people (just a little), and she was also afraid about what would happen to her as well.

After all, she knew that the only reason she was alive was because of Andrew. He had decided that he needed her help and had kept her alive. Anyone else would have killed her long ago.

So she did not want him to die. He was the only assurance of her own life.

"Jenna, calm down. Nothing will happen to them. I trust Andrew's judgment. He and the others will make it back if they are in danger."

Lilianna assured her without a doubt in her mind.

Worry clouded Lilianna's mind as well, but unlike Jenna, she did not allow it to show on her face.

Meanwhile, Andrew, Emperor, and Seraphina made their final preparations to enter the rift that was about to open.

[I will open the rift in 2 minutes. Make sure you enter as soon as it opens. I won't be able to keep it open for more than 2 minutes.]

The puppet reminded Andrew through the system message, and he nodded at the other two to confirm whether they were ready or not.

Both Emperor and Seraphina nodded that they were ready. It was now or never.

"Everyone, while I am not here, Clara and Lilianna will be in charge. And you all"-Andrew turned toward the modified soldiers-"Jenna will be able to control you in case of emergencies. So do not worry."

Andrew turned toward a confused Jenna.

"I will be able to control them-? What does that mean-"

"That means you have the skills necessary to calm their rampage down. Just trust in yourself and your skills."

Andrew reminded her, and Jenna looked confused at first. But one look around told her that everyone else believed Andrew's words.

So she gave a determined look as well.

"You are right. I will be able to control their rampage…"

She agreed, and the system chimed in.

[Truth-And-Lies has activated. More than 70% of the people here believe your words. You have gained a new power.]

The system told her, and Jenna breathed a sigh of relief.

She had no idea how Andrew had been able to tell this would help, or why he had decided to say all this. But she now had a purpose in this camp.

[A temporary rift has opened. Destination: unknown.]

[Analysis: It is not safe to enter unknown rifts.]

The system warned Andrew, but the puppet's message told him that this rift was not dangerous.

[The rift is open now. You can come inside. Ignore the system's warnings.]

With one last look back, Andrew and the other two entered the rift. It closed behind them without much noise, and they had their first look at the system space.

They had arrived in an empty and dark location without a source of light.

[You have entered the protected zone. Most functions of the system will be halted. You may check the full list of functions available to you in the 'system' panel.]

The message flashed across their screens, and when Andrew tried to use his powers, he was not able to access them.

"Looks like we won't be able to use our abilities for the most part."

Andrew told the others as he brought out a flashlight he had kept in his system. It had been for emergency measures, but the fact that he had to use it so soon made him feel a little uneasy.

Besides, he did not see the puppet anywhere, which was also a cause for concern.

"First, we should get out of here and into a more secure position. Our first priority should be to find the puppet."

Andrew told the other two and looked around.

He was about to leave the room when he got a sudden message, and he opened the system screen to check it.

[It is nice to see that you all made it here safely. Unfortunately, I am not currently able to make it to your location. But I prepared something to help you move around more easily.]

The message was from the puppet, and a mask appeared in their inventory.

[Mark of Deception: Item Type-Equip.]

[The person wearing this mask will be able to hide their ability. The mask will degrade over time. Usage time left: 1 day.]

Andrew took out the mask and observed it. It was a simple white mask with holes for the eyes and nothing else. It looked uncomfortable to wear, but he still brought it to his face.

It molded itself to his face in no time.

"This mask…did the puppet prepare this for us?"

Emperor asked as he wore his own mask, and Seraphina followed.

"It seems like it. With this, we should be able to move around more freely."

Seraphina pointed out as she walked out of the room. Her face was harder to look at, and something static seemed to be covering it.

The same happened for Emperor, and Andrew was sure that it was the same for him as well.

These masks were protecting their identities from the people inside this place.

"First, let's try and find the main system's body. I am sure it is somewhere here. We can decide what to do after that."

He told the other two, and they nodded and started to look around.

A few creatures passed them, but none stopped to look at them. It was all thanks to the masks they were currently wearing.

They made it quite far before someone grabbed Andrew's shoulder and stopped him.

He tensed and flexed his hand. He was ready to turn around and take his weapon out, but he stopped himself at the last second and calmed himself down.

"Hey, you three…where are you going? We have work to do. So follow after me."

A stranger told them without a hint of hesitation and gestured for them to follow him.

The three exchanged a look but did as they were told to…for now.
