Chapter 147 147: Ch 147: Inviting Guests over
Just like that, game 13 ended, and everyone came back to where they had been.
Andrew blinked to clear his aching head as he looked around the clearing. Everyone else was back as well, and they looked just as unsettled as he did.
"Is everyone alright? Do you need me to check up on you?"
Lilianna asked, but her voice cracked halfway, and she coughed. Her lips looked red, almost as if she had eaten a lot of spice.
The others were in a similar situation after the game, but they looked relatively fine.
[Game 13 completed. You have gained 50,000 coins.]
The system announced their reward, and Andrew returned back home after that to rest and recover.
Not long after that, he got the puppet's message that everything was ready for their trip and she could be coming to get them soon.
He felt excited but also scared for what was about to happen.
"It's finally time. We will get to see what the system is and what we can do about it."
Andrew sounded determined and hopeful at the same time. Much of his life had been dictated by the system, and he was forced to live within its boundaries.
But now, it was finally time for him to push past its boundary and be able to see it for what it truly was.
__________
The puppet made all the preparations to bring her guest over. And she did it in such a way that everyone else would be busy with things.
First, she created an event that would distract everyone's eyes, and then she made a safe route for people to be able to enter.
This was all done in order to let Andrew and his party inside…or so she hoped.
But a small part of the puppet doubted whether her preparations would be enough or not.
'Not that I can back out at this point. I have signed a contract with the humans. If I back out now, then it will be the same as not being able to fulfill my side of the contract.'
Even now, the puppet could feel the contract trying to tighten its noose around her throat and force her to follow its will. And she wanted to fight it but was not able to do so in a reasonable way.
There was just no fighting the system.
"Are you sure you want to do this? If you are caught, then you will never be free again."
The male puppet asked her as he followed after her. He was the only other person who knew about what was happening. But the female puppet had made sure he had no involvement in this case.
That way, the male puppet would not be impacted if…once she was caught.
"I no longer have a choice. So make sure you protect yourself once I am with my guests."
The female puppet told the male puppet before she left the room. It was almost time for her to open the portal, but before she could reach the site where her power was gathered, a familiar presence stopped her.
"Miss puppet, are you heading out somewhere? Can you instead give me a fraction of your time? There are a few things I would like to discuss with you."
The doctor stood in her way, and he stopped her from moving. His eyes looked at the puppet up and down with a disturbing gaze.
It was not sexual in nature, but it held too much attention for the puppet not to feel conflicted about it.
"Can I…help you with something?"
The puppet asked the doctor, and his grin became even wider as he looked at her.
"Help me with something? There is a lot you can help me with. But alas, that is not why I have come here today. The reason I have come here is completely different, and I hope you will be able to help me out."
The man told the puppet, and the ringing inside her mind became even stronger.
Everything inside her told her to run and not look back. But the doctor's smiling face grounded her to her place.
"What do…you want? I am listening."
The puppet told the doctor, and he smiled.
"Well, what I want is simple—in a short while, you are going to bring your guests over, right? I just want to observe what happens once they are here. Surely you can allow that much?"
The doctor asked, and the puppet froze.
"I have no idea what you are talking about."
The puppet told the doctor in a cold and unfeeling voice. But the doctor just scoffed at her before his interested eyes looked at her up close.
"There is no point in 'pretending' to hide anything from me. I already know that you signed a contract with the humans…don't look so angry. I won't tell anyone. Frankly, I don't care what you do. But since this situation is interesting, I would like to keep an eye on it."
The doctor's smile became easygoing and annoying. The more she looked at it, the more the puppet felt like she was falling into a trap.
But she had no choice here. The doctor held all the cards, and he could very easily destroy her with his knowledge if he wanted to.
All she could do at the moment was agree to his terms and hope she would be able to deceive him later.
"Fine, do what you want to."
The puppet told the doctor, and he smiled.
"Of course. I was going to keep an eye on you anyway. I just thought I should tell you beforehand, just to see your reaction."
The doctor confirmed what the puppet already knew. But she kept her temper in check and turned around to leave.
Time was ticking, and she needed to hurry. She would be able to deal with this doctor later…much later if she needed to. Before that, she had a promise to keep.
The promised space was an empty room that had a summoning circle in it. It was a place that was abandoned now, but the puppet was going to use it to summon those humans to this realm.
