Chapter 140 140: Ch 140: Talking Cats

Chapter 140 140: Ch 140: Talking Cats

The outside of the house was dark, with just enough moonlight to get around. No one had bothered turning on any additional lights since they were not needed.

Due to the system's enhancements and advanced physical capabilities, it was far easier for Andrew to see through the darkness and find Emperor.

He was currently kneeling in front of a patch of wires that had been cut. The cut looked far too clean to be natural, and yet, it did not look human-made either.

"What are you looking at?"

Andrew asked as he kneeled beside Emperor.

The older male must have noticed him coming because he did not look surprised by the sudden question. He simply put the wires back down and followed the trail he had seen before.

"We might have some kind of animal infestation around here. There have been more than a few wires chewed up all around the farm area. It might turn into a disaster if we are not careful."

Emperor told him as he straightened his back. He was about to say more when they both heard the sound of bushes rustling. They tensed and turned toward the noise immediately.

"What can it be…?"

Andrew asked as he headed toward the bush and parted it, only to see a small cat-like creature.

"A cat…?"

Emperor questioned, only for the feline creature to immediately look at him and threaten to take a swipe at him.

Had it been anyone else, the creature might have succeeded. But Emperor was too fast and managed to catch the claws before they could dig into his face.

"What is this? This does not look like a cat to me…?"

Emperor questioned as he dragged the creature out into the moonlight. The cat-hybrid hissed as it was forced out of its hiding place. The evidence of it having bitten the wires was still visible between its teeth.

"Well, looks like we found the culprit. What should we do with this creature?"

Emperor asked, keeping his hand steady. Despite the various scratch marks all over his hand, he kept his hold on the creature tight.

Andrew sighed and looked around for a trap lying nearby. Clara had bought quite a few, and not all of them had been used up by now.

He found one that fit the creature and caught it inside.

The cat-like creature hissed and tried to bite through the handles of the cage it was in, but it was of no use anymore.

"Here, you should take it back. I will see if there are more of these creatures out here."

Andrew told Emperor, but he did not do as he was told. Instead, he followed after Andrew.

"I would rather not go inside. Those people will try to feed me poison, and I would like to keep my mind intact and not filled with cotton."

Emperor was rather firm about this, and it took Andrew a few seconds to realize that the 'poison' meant alcohol.

He wanted to pry more, but he had a feeling it was not his place to do that. And Emperor was also not someone who liked to share too much about himself.

Still, Andrew could not help but tease him a little.

"So you are a lightweight? I never expected something like this from you."

"Tsk, I am not a lightweight. I just don't like to drink much. There is a difference between the two."

Emperor insisted, and Andrew kept a calm face, showing that he was not affected by his words.

Silence returned to the pair once more as they walked, and soon enough, they heard another bush rustle. It came from nearby, and they both turned to look at it.

Squeekkkk

The creature in the cage yelled loudly, almost as if it was trying to warn the others to run away. But it did not take long for Andrew to hear the sound of traps going off.

He looked down at his system, which showed the locations of the creatures, and more than a dozen came into focus.

"It looks like Clara's traps did come in handy after all."

Emperor sounded impressed as he walked around the site where a dozen or so creatures had been caught.

"Well, it looks like we cannot call Clara's trap purchase a waste of money anymore… Let's round up all these creatures and bring them back to…somewhere…"

Andrew sighed as he collected the cages from one side, and Emperor did the same from the other.

In total, there were about twenty creatures in sixteen different cages.

Andrew quickly decided to check on these hybrids to see what they were.

[Hybrid Cat (Level 20) – A special creature born from the power of the system inserted among real-life animals. Due to this, they have gained special powers and heightened intelligence because of their altered nature.]

Sigh

"This looks like Thief's handiwork. But these creatures do look intelligent, so I think they will understand us."

Andrew told Emperor as he put the cage down and backed away. The farther Andrew dragged Emperor, the calmer the creatures looked.

Finally, once he was far enough, Andrew spoke up.

"I am not here to harm you, but I cannot allow you all to cause trouble on my territory and damage our resources. I will let you go as long as you promise not to cause more trouble."

Andrew felt a little silly trying to communicate with these creatures. But since these hybrids were connected to the system, communication was still likely possible.

He watched as the creatures in the cages turned to each other, and then they looked at him. The system blinked, telling him that he had a new message from…somewhere.

[Human, we have discussed this among ourselves. All we require is some food to keep our species alive. In return, we will offer our service to you in any way you want us to. Do we have an agreement?]

The creatures asked in unison, surprising both Andrew and Emperor.

"These creatures…are they talking to us? Just what did Thief even do?"
