Chapter 137 137: Ch 137: New Possibility

"Andrew, are you alright? Are you alive…?"

Jenna asked as she ran toward him. She looked at him and then at the bound puppet with a suspicious expression.

"You bound her? How are you not dead?"

Jenna asked Andrew with suspicion in her eyes, but Andrew just shook his head at her words and did not bother answering her.

The others arrived as well, and Lilianna immediately walked toward him to check up on him. Her energy felt clean, but there was nothing for her to heal. Andrew had already used her copied ability to check himself and heal himself.

Once everyone had made sure that he was fine and not injured in any way, they turned toward their second captured puppet.

The system also reminded everyone that this was a game they had finished.

[Game 12 complete. The puppet master has been caught.]

Andrew put the message away for now and turned to look at the puppet. She was bound and on their turf. He could ask her any question he wanted to.

"So, what do you humans want from me? I do not have much time, and I am sure we can come to an agreement."

The puppet asked as she settled down. She was not being aggressive and was rather cooperative.

But something about this silence from her felt ominous. Andrew was not sure how much he could take her at face value.

Emperor had no such hesitation, and he immediately grabbed the puppet to shake her.

"What is the system planning? What even is it? What are you planning to do with Earth-?"

He asked, only to be pulled back by Andrew and Seraphina.

The puppet looked a little startled, but she quickly regained her composure and stood up on her feet. Her eyes looked at the humans in front of her with caution, but she did decide to answer them.

"The system is…like a giant and hungry hole. No one knows its true nature so far, but what we do know is that it selects a world to visit and takes hold of it until it sucks it dry. There is nothing anyone can do about it. Once the system has a hold of your world, you are forever bound to it."

Andrew already had an idea about the truth, but everyone else looked a little stunned to hear the puppet speak.

'Hmm, not everyone. Seraphina looks like she knows more than she is letting on as well.'

"If the system is like a black hole, then who are you and the others? Why do you help it out?"

Lilianna asked the puppet and got an instant reply back.

"It's not like I want to help the system or anything. The system is just the only means of survival for those of us left behind."

The puppet informed the humans in front of her. She did not seek their sympathy, nor did she expect them to understand her reasoning. She was just speaking facts…for now.

"The system…is a means of survival for you? Then what about us? You will sacrifice people for your own sake? Have you not heard of sympathy…?"

Clara snapped, not being able to take it anymore.

"Sympathy? What use would it serve me? We are not even the same species. Since you are so focused on sympathy, let me ask you-if you are hungry and you see an animal, won't you kill and eat it to save yourself? Would you care about its life? Then how are you and I any different?"

The puppet asked, and Clara bit her lip, not wanting to say more.

She wanted to argue that this and that were different things. But perhaps, in the eyes of the non-human puppet, there was not much difference between her and an animal.

"Lilianna, take Clara in for now. I don't think it is good for her mental health to be here. Anyone else who is weak-hearted should also leave now."

Andrew told everyone, but it was more like an order for the others to leave.

In the end, only a few people were left behind, and he turned back to the puppet.

"Now that the others are gone, let me ask you a few things-what is the system's goal beyond survival? Is there a specific way it moves? What about how it functions? I want to know all about it."

He told the puppet, not missing a single beat.

"You are eager to know all this? Unfortunately, there is not much I can tell you about it. No one truly understands what the system is. We have just been at its mercy all this time."

The puppet spoke, and a tense silence followed her words. But she also gave a ray of hope along with despair.

"However, there is one thing I can help you with. I can allow you to see the main system for yourself if you agree to help me with a small task. Maybe you will be able to find something I am not able to."

She told the humans in front of her without any hesitation, as she spoke about breaking a taboo.

The puppet knew that she would likely die if she was ever found out, but she decided to take this risk.

"I do not trust you. If you are telling the truth, then sign a contract with me to prove it."

Andrew told her, and the puppet nodded.

"Sure, I will sign a contract to help you. But only if you agree to help me in return. One of the young puppets I was looking after has gone missing. I want you to find him for me."

The female puppet told them, and Andrew nodded.

"I do have a feeling I know what you are talking about. But fine, if you sign the contract, I will do what I can to find the puppet for you."

Andrew told her, and a new contract was signed between the pair.

With this, a new possibility for Andrew had opened up regarding the future of humanity.
