Chapter 132 132: Ch 132: Simon Says- Part 1

"Since I have given you the first round, I will start with the second. Simon says, bring me something I would enjoy."

There was silence as the puppet spoke its next order. People looked at each other with uncertainty, now suddenly not sure what the puppet wanted from them all.

"Huh-? What does that even mean? We need to bring back something a puppet would enjoy? Like some wood or something?"

Clara asked the question everyone wanted to ask. There was not a single hint from the system telling them what they needed to do either, and it made things difficult for all the players.

Some were already starting to panic and wonder what they should do next.

"For now, take a deep breath and brace yourself. We need to first find something the puppet would like. Does anyone have any suggestions?"

Andrew asked, but no one looked confident enough to say anything. Even if someone did think of something, they did not want to say it just in case they were wrong.

"Hurry up. Time is ticking out."

The puppet informed everyone, and a sudden timer appeared on the system screen.

[Time to carry out the second order: 1 hour]

The generous time given to them was backed by the rudeness of the timer, and Andrew instantly started to think of things the puppet would like.

"Maybe we can bring storybooks here…Didn't one of the previous rounds have storybook-like elements? I recall the puppet saying that she liked it…"

Lilianna recalled and told everyone. She had a sharp memory and usually remembered small conversations easily. So, based on what she knew, she made an educated guess.

But not everyone looked convinced.

"A storybook? What is this? Some fantasy show? Will a non-human creature like that be truly happy with a storybook?"

Jenna questioned with a nervous look on her face. Her nerves were fried, and she could not think of anything else to do either.

"Hey Jenna, if you are going to open your mouth to complain, then you better have a solution present as well. Don't just criticize others all the time."

Clara snapped back once she realized that Lilianna had no intention of speaking up for herself. And Clara's anger made Jenna not only take a step back but also put her hands up in a defensive way.

"C-Calm down a little. I was just saying…There is no need for you to get this heated…"

Jenna tried to calm Clara down, but it was not of much use.

Thankfully, Andrew interfered between the pair before things could get worse.

"This is enough. If you both want to fight, then do it after this game. But first, let's get some storybooks from the still-standing libraries and stores. Emperor, any input?"

Andrew asked the returnee for his own advice, but Emperor shrugged.

"I don't have a better idea either. This was not a game that occurred in any past rounds."

Andrew nodded, and they all quickly separated to find the books that they needed for this game.

Under the watchful eyes of the system, all players tried to find something that the puppet would enjoy. But most of them settled on basic human commodities in the end.

__________

From high above the sky, the puppet looked at her game with a blank expression. She was just trying to get this game over with and fulfill her side mission.

[Scanning in progress. Trying to locate the missing puppet in progress. Earth scan in progress]

[Scan completed: 10%]

The puppet did not feel a lot of emotions, but she did feel a hint of nervousness as she looked around. One wrong move could land her in hot water with the system.

Still, this was not something she could avoid either. She had to strike a careful balance between her personal work and her work as a system operative.

But she had to put it on hold as more and more players started to come back with things she 'might' enjoy.

"T-This is a mini gaming console…"

"A-A book…"

"This is…"

The puppet was not interested in any of it, but she was not going to fail any humans at this stage either. It would serve her no purpose to do that.

[Round 2 cleared]

And just like that, the second round was cleared as well, and only 3 rounds remained. Her eyes looked over the humans who were awaiting her next order, and she felt like a god. But the feeling did not make her feel anything other than discomfort.

"Since you all passed round 2, I will give you the next task."

Everyone looked curious about her next orders, and the puppet did not hesitate to give them the next order.

"Simon says-survive for the next hour."

People under her looked confused, but the puppet raised her hand and portals began to appear. More and more smaller puppets jumped out of the portal and started to attack humans.

These puppets were spares, created by her to try and have a flame take control of them and come to life. But alas, she was unsuccessful in increasing the population of her people.

That was why the ones she had left were so precious to her.

[Scan completed: 30%]

Scanning was going well…for now. But she needed more time.

'I need to think of longer games to play. Otherwise, I won't be able to complete my scan and find the one I need to.'

The puppet felt frustrated as she concentrated on her task at hand. But a sudden chilling feeling made her look down at the battlefield where people were fighting the puppets.

A single chilling and familiar gaze drew her attention, and her eyes met Seraphina's.

The female was looking back at her with an equally blank expression as she drew her weapon through the puppet's neck.

'So the players sent by the system are still alive and meshing with humans. I feel sorry for them. Their fate will not be kind to them. But I do not have the luxury to help them either.'
