Chapter 129 129: Ch 129: Asking for Help
Time passed far too quickly. With 3 mini-games done, only one more was left before the start of the next game.
Andrew's party had already gained a lot of people. Jenna and her party were currently helping out on the farms, while the genetically modified soldiers were doing their best to survive in these harsh conditions.
Andrew's skill held everything together, and soon, it came time to harvest the food.
"Everyone, it's finally time. Are you ready to harvest?"
Clara asked in an excited voice. But no one else showed as much enthusiasm as she did.
"Please, kill me. I don't think I can take any more of this…"
Jenna complained as she went back to work as well. Despite her words, she was one of the hardest workers around now.
Andrew also helped out where he could, but he paused his work as soon as he noticed that he had a notification on the system.
He opened the message to check who had sent it to him. But there was no name of the sender. Still, because he had a high security level (and because this was the system's messaging system), he decided to open the message.
[Dear Mark Dawson,
This is a letter sent to you from Section V. We have recently been hit with a food crisis and would like to ask for your help. We have asked for help from the Peace Organization and a few other places as well, but have yet to receive a response. But time is of the essence, and we are afraid that we might starve at this rate.
Kindly visit us as soon as possible so that we can discuss things in person. Of course, we will also compensate you for all expenses.
Regards,
The Chief of Sector V]
The message was short yet desperate. It could have been a trap, but a simple search told Andrew that Sector V was very real, and they posted updates about their base quite often online.
But due to their open nature and the need to accept almost anyone, they were facing a food issue.
"Clara, come here for a bit."
Andrew called Clara since this was more her expertise than his own.
"Huh-! Do you want me for something?"
Clara asked as she walked over to him. He quickly showed her the situation and made the decision to allow her to decide what they should do.
"What do you want to do? Do you want to help? Or do you want to focus on your own work here?"
Andrew asked Clara, and she had a thoughtful expression on her face. He waited a few seconds before she came to a decision.
"The more humans we have, the better it will be for us, right? Then I want to invest in human resources. I will help these people out."
Clara decided, and Andrew sighed. He somehow knew that Clara would agree to help these people out.
"Alright. Then we can go in person and strike a deal beneficial to us. We should leave as soon as possible."
Andrew told her, and she nodded. They left after lunch and reached Sector V by the end of the day.
They had not told the sector that they were coming, but somehow, the Chief of Sector V seemed to know and welcomed them in with a smile on his face. He looked desperate and also worn out.
A quick look around Sector V told Andrew that this place had not had an easy life. Most of the buildings looked abandoned, and the people looked like they had no power to move around.
The chief of the sector noticed what his guests were looking at as well, but he could do nothing but flush in embarrassment.
Even he knew that things around his base were not ideal and that there were a lot of things wrong. But he was trying to deal with one thing at a time.
They reached the central room, and the chief welcomed the pair inside.
"Please come in. What would you like? Tea or coffee?"
He asked as he stood up to prepare some himself.
"Water will be fine."
Andrew told the man, and the chief nodded in relief before he brought tap water for his guests and placed it in front of them.
Even the office looked tactful but rather boring. The depressed feeling of the camp had managed to make its way all the way to this office as well.
There was an awkward silence in the air as both sides waited for the other to speak first. The chief quickly noticed that Andrew had no intention of speaking, so he decided to be the one to speak first.
"Respected sir, madam… I am sure you have noticed the situation at Sector V already. We are trying our best to get things under control, but we are facing a lot of issues. And the biggest one is the issue of food. So I beg of you… please help us out."
In the end, the chief abandoned all his pride and bowed his head in front of Clara and Andrew. His people were dying, so things like personal pride had no place in his life at the current moment.
Andrew showed no reaction as he watched the man bow, but Clara had a startled expression on her face.
"Woah-! There is no need to be like this. You want help…? Well, what kind of help? How many people do you have? I don't think I have grown enough to feed a lot of people…"
Clara confessed with a nervous look on her face.
The chief sighed, and his eyes shone.
"Don't worry. We are just 100k people. There won't be too much of a burden…"
"100k people? Are you kidding me? Do you even know how much food that is? There is no way I have grown enough. I don't even have much land to grow for this many people."
Clara replied in a startled voice.
The chief looked crushed at her words, and Clara suddenly felt bad for him. She wanted to help him out, but had no way to do so.
So, with a helpless look on her face, she looked back at Andrew to see what he had to say.
