Chapter 834 831: Time Flies (5)
Camila Ruiz graduated from university just a year ago and is now employed at Valence Group as Ivan's assistant. Although she's called an assistant, she's mostly doing errands and menial tasks. Valence Group doesn't grant high positions based on your background or status. Even the current heir, Ivan, climbed up from the bottom and has only become one of the many managers, not yet taking over as CEO.
Of course, Camila had to start from doing errands too.
Fortunately, she became Ivan's assistant. Ivan has always been very fond of her, making it easier for her to learn new things under his guidance.
"Got it." Charles Colson agreed with a faint smile, his eyes softening considerably as he turned and headed upstairs.
He quickly returned to the second floor, walked to Camila's room, and knocked on the door, calling softly, "Camila, time to get up."
There was no response from the room; Camila was still dreaming and having a rendezvous with Jimmy Horne.
When she was fifteen, after meeting Jimmy Horne, she spent a summer with him. Their feelings were settled that year, and even though she didn't fully understand love, she was willing to wait for Jimmy. And she really did wait, as many boys pursued her over the years, she accepted none. Regardless of when Jimmy returned, she held firmly to her promise.
It has been eight years since they last met face to face.
However, five years ago, they reconnected through phone calls. Since then, calling and texting Jimmy became a part of her daily life. Over time, her vague affection for Jimmy turned into real love.
After waiting for thirty seconds, Charles knocked on the door again, slightly more forcefully, saying, "Camila, get up. If you don't, you'll be late."
Still no response from inside.
Reluctantly, Charles turned the doorknob. This girl didn't like to lock her door when sleeping, saying that in case of an earthquake or disaster, she could escape faster, which made Charles smile wryly. Maybe due to frequent earthquakes happening in recent years, this girl had become overly cautious.
Pushing the door open, Charles tiptoed into the room, intending to wake her up, yet worried about disturbing her.
Camila was hugging a pillow, her long, beautiful hair spread across the single bed, making her look particularly striking. As she slept like an adorable angel, Charles stood by her bed, gazing at her lovely face from above. With her eyes tightly shut, he could not see the brilliance of her large eyes, but her long eyelashes appeared elegant and lovely.
In Charles's eyes, she was the most beautiful woman in the world.
"Camila." Restraining the tenderness in his eyes, Charles unceremoniously took away the pillow she was hugging and gently tapped her with it, saying, "Get up, you're going to be late. If you don't get up now, I'm leaving, and you'll have to take the bus to work yourself."
Camila had a car, but she refused to drive to work. She said she was just a small assistant, earning a few thousand in salary each month, which couldn't support a car. So she didn't want to use the black Crown car Ivan gave her as a graduation gift, fearing people would say she's showing off.
Her temperament was very similar to Julia's when she was young. This was why Julia loved her even more than Rachel did.
Every day, either Charles drove her to work or Ivan detoured to pick her up.
Sometimes Charles left first, and if Ivan didn't come to pick her up, she would take the bus herself.
"Brother Charles, if you keep tapping, I'll sleep until 8 PM." Camila sat up suddenly, quickly grabbing her favorite pillow back, threatening him.
Charles chuckled and replied, "Alright, continue sleeping until 8 PM then. Don't expect to get your bonus from Brother Ivan this month. Blame me for meddling, go ahead and keep sleeping." Charles finished his sentence, pretending to turn around and leave.
"Always using Brother Ivan to pressure me." Camila made a face at Charles's back but still resignedly slid out of bed.
Charles turned back, went to the wardrobe, took out a black suit dress for her, and tossed it to her, saying, "Hurry up, stop dawdling. Aunt Rachel got up early to make us breakfast; don't waste her kindness."
After speaking, Charles turned and this time, he left Camila's room.
Camila caught the outfit he threw, went into the bathroom, and came out in minutes wearing the suit dress. She casually brushed her long hair reaching her hips, secured it with a pretty hair clip, then hurriedly walked out. While passing by the outer room's sofa, she half-reached over and picked up a white handbag, which contained some snacks and her phone.
Those snacks were prepared by Charles before bed every night for her to have the next day, afraid she'd get bored at work and wanted her to munch on something to pass the time. At Valence Group, employees weren't allowed to eat snacks during work hours, but with Ivan covering for her, nobody knew. Over the past year, this arrangement worked smoothly. Sometimes Ivan would even rummage through her bag looking for snacks.
Leaving her room, she quickly ran down the stairs.
"Camila, I've told you many times, don't run down the stairs. Where did your 'Lady' demeanor go? Your mom raised you for twenty-three years for nothing," Rachel Bailey admonished as she watched her daughter rush down the stairs.
As she grew up, Camila became more forthright and no longer played the 'Lady' in front of her elders like before the age of fifteen. Perhaps it was Jimmy who changed her.
"Mom, I love you." Camila laughed, hugging Rachel tightly. At 165 cm, she was taller than her mom, making a playful remark and eliciting a mix of exasperation and amusement from Rachel, who pushed her away, tapped her on the nose, and said, "Go eat breakfast; your dad isn't holding back either."
Hearing this, Camila immediately dashed into the dining room like the wind, calling out before reaching, "Daddy, save some for me, don't finish it all."
Seeing her daughter behave like this, Rachel couldn't help but smile with resignation.
