Chapter 835 832: Wang Baochuan (1)
After breakfast, Charles and Camila walked out of the house together.
Hansen essentially would not return to the company anymore. With the new generation, both he and Glades were gradually stepping back, leaving the world for the young generation to transform.
Ivan was the designated heir of Valence Group. Though he was currently just one of the many managers, he was already showing his sharpness. In another year or two, he could take over the CEO position.
The position of Hansen's assistant was being groomed for Felix Horne, the second son of the Horne Family. Felix was only eighteen now, still studying at university, but every holiday he would certainly follow Hansen to prepare himself for the future of sitting in that assistant position.
The two Ruiz brothers were required by their grandmother to return to A City to take over the Ruiz consortium, so they wouldn't be involved in any of Valence Group's affairs.
Rachel Bailey also started a company with nearly a thousand employees and a hundred managers, making her a top figure in the fruit and vegetable industry. Now she only needed to spare some time to check things out, no longer having to personally deliver goods like before.
"Camila, wait for me here, I'll go get the car." Once out of the house, Charles said warmly to her, then turned towards the garage.
Charles drove a BMW, bought with money he earned himself. He had worked for many years in a subsidiary of Valence Group, and besides using the rewards to buy a BMW, the rest was all spent on the Ruiz brothers' schooling. Hansen and Rachel tried to persuade him multiple times to save it up, as the Ruiz Family could afford their education, but he insisted on paying for it himself as a way to repay those two brothers.
If it weren't for the Ruiz brothers, Charles wouldn't be where he is today.
Camila stopped in the courtyard, waiting for Charles to drive the car out.
Moments later, Charles pulled the car beside her and considerately opened the car door on the passenger side for her.
"Brother Charles, you're becoming more and more gentlemanly, my future sister-in-law is lucky," Camila said with a carefree laugh as she climbed into the car, not noticing that Charles's eyes darkened a bit as she said this.
"Buckle up." Charles didn't respond to her words, just reminded her to fasten her seatbelt. After she buckled it, he started the engine and drove out of the villa.
Camila unzipped her handbag and took out her phone, which had a pink casing—she seemed to particularly like pink. She made a call, but despite the long wait, no one picked up. Her expression showed a mix of sadness, worry, and anxiety, but she didn't say anything and hung up.
She then sent a message, and after sending it, she waited for several minutes, continuously staring at the phone. After a few minutes passed without receiving a reply, her expression became even more downcast.
Charles, noticing her through the rearview mirror, asked with concern, "Camila, what's wrong?"
Camila snapped out of her thoughts, turned her head to force a smile at him, and replied, "Nothing," then exerted effort to return her expression to normal so as not to worry Charles.
Charles didn't press further; if she didn't want to say something, she wouldn't reveal it no matter how persistently asked.
The two fell silent.
Moments later.
"I really don't know what you're thinking about; you have a car yourself and yet you refuse to drive. You always let your car sit in the garage, are you hoping it will spawn a little car for you?" Charles said lightly to Camila, trying to stir conversation so the car wouldn't fall into silence, and to prevent her from overthinking due to the quiet.
"Come on, Brother Charles, you say this sentence almost every day. While you're not tired of saying it, my ears have grown calluses from hearing it," Camila replied amusedly, suppressing the somber expression in the depths of her heart.
Charles laughed, his eyes filled with indulgence, "Is it because you don't like your car? If not, I can give you a better one?" The graduation gift Ivan gave her was a crown sedan worth over three hundred thousand yuan—it's not as good as Charles's BMW but it's not bad either.
"Of course not, I like it a lot. It was given by Brother Ivan. No one else can even get him to give them a bicycle." Camila laughed playfully. "Don't give me another one, I don't want you to spend unnecessarily. Brother Ivan is different, hehe."
Charles chuckled softly, "If your Brother Ivan heard that, he'd surely rap your head."
Camila laughed.
Suddenly, she leaned deliberately closer to Charles's ear, feigning half a pitiful tone, "Brother Charles, you keep saying the same sentence every day—are you annoyed by me always hitching a ride?"
Charles glanced sideways at her smiling indulgently, "Camila, you know that's not what Brother Charles means."
Camila giggled, "If you're bothered by me always hitching rides, I'll call Brother Ivan to pick me up for work—he's my boss anyway."
"Don't keep bothering your Brother Ivan. Even if you want to hitch rides with me for a lifetime, I'd be willing." Charles said with a deep smile.
He would love for her to hitch rides with him.
Though he was the general manager of a subsidiary, he had an office at Valence Group's office building, yet he mostly went to the subsidiary he managed. Instead of a hitching ride, it was more of a dedicated car ride. He enjoyed taking Camila to work; if not for urgent matters, he wouldn't hand over this chance to Ivan.
Over the years, he'd witnessed Ivan's care and indulgence towards Camila, and the outside world frequently gossiped about them possibly following in the footsteps of Glades and Julia and becoming a couple. He saw Ivan as his strongest rival in love, and if it weren't for his awkward status in the Ruiz Family, he would've confessed to Camila long ago.
"Brother Charles, I have a gathering tonight—a high school reunion. I'd like you to accompany me, are you free?" Camila suddenly changed the topic, a glint of mischief flashing in her bright eyes.
Brother Charles was twenty-six, successful and quite handsome, and his parents were secretly keeping an eye out for good girls to introduce him to. She was also watching; she remembered in her senior year, a classmate she was close to had a crush on Brother Charles. That classmate was now working near Valence Group. Recently, when shopping together, they ran into each other, and as they talked about relationships, Camila specifically asked her classmate about her feelings towards Brother Charles. The classmate blushed, confirming she hadn't forgotten Charles. Camila then thought about using this reunion to bring Charles along and play matchmaker between him and her classmate.
Charles glanced at her, then returned his gaze to the road ahead, faintly smiling with concealed heartache, saying, "Camila, don't try slipping women around your Brother Charles's side."
