Chapter 398: Marcel is in Trouble (3)_1
"Mrs. Horne... but our company is innocent too," Alvin Evans said with a mournful face. My son can't be saved; at worst, he'd get a few years in prison. That's not a death sentence. But if the company goes under, the whole family will be sweeping the streets.
"That's a matter of ability, and I am even less able to help you," Julia Bluen said, her voice even fainter, colder.
Alvin Evans almost fainted. Yet, what Julia Bluen said was not without reason; it was indeed a matter of ability. If his own capabilities were strong enough, he could have withstood the pressure even if all the young masters of the Horne family targeted him.
Seeing Alvin Evans's pleading and Julia Bluen's indifference, Dio Powell felt deeply disappointed. He recalled how he had once begged Julia Bluen, but she had been unwilling to help him. Could he possibly sway Julia now? "Julia..."
He barely started speaking when Julia Bluen's indifferent gaze swept over, and he couldn't bring himself to continue.
Julia Bluen's status had changed; that was why he had come to beg her. If Julia were truly a mere employee, wouldn't the Powell family have bullied her to death? Julia had never provoked the Powell family; they were the ones who, relying on their wealth, had forcibly tried to snatch away love. In the end, they had not obtained love but had reaped hatred instead.
"Miss Horne, I know Alland Ramos was wrong, he almost hurt you but... please spare him," Alvin Evans begged Adele Horne as soon as he saw her sitting in the passenger seat.
Adele Horne didn't even bother with him. She opened the car door, got out, and headed straight into the building.
"Miss Horne..." Alvin Evans trailed after Adele Horne.
Julia Bluen gave a signal to the security guards, who immediately stopped Alvin Evans, preventing him from catching up with Adele Horne.
In Julia's eyes, both the Evans and Powell families had brought their troubles upon themselves. She hadn't taken further action against the Powell family, and that was already showing mercy. Now they wanted her to beseech Glades Horne for them? She was not Avalokitesvara, full of compassion. She was someone with clear distinctions between love and hate. If someone showed her kindness, she would definitely repay them doubly. The Powell family had once hurt her deeply. Her not harboring resentment now was already magnanimous; naturally, she would not help them.
Once more, Julia Bluen started the engine. Alvin Evans and Dio Powell still wanted to block her car, but after her cold gaze swept over them, the two could only sullenly step aside, watching helplessly as Julia Bluen drove into the company compound.
Around six in the evening, the sun had long set. The sky grew dim, heralding the arrival of night. Just after sunset, the temperature dropped by two degrees. Alvin Evans and Dio Powell stood in the cold wind before the entrance of Cosmos Group, watching the gates that had just closed, their expressions varied.
Glades Horne had been standing by the window of the General Manager's Office, observing everything at the company's entrance. He hadn't ordered his bodyguards to help his wife because he knew that wouldn't truly resolve the situation. Only by letting Julia face them, and by letting Dio Powell and Alvin Evans understand that begging her would be futile, would they finally give up and stop bothering her in the future.
"Have you been here long?" Julia came in, walked behind him, and asked softly.
Adele Horne also came in, but upon seeing Glades Horne, she promptly excused herself, leaving space for her brother and sister-in-law.
As for Vice President Li, she had already returned the orders from the expo to her office and left for the day.
Glades Horne turned around and gazed intently at her.
"What's the matter? Don't recognize me after just one day?" Julia teased with a smile.
Glades Horne's lips pursed, and he remained silent.
Looking at him, Julia smiled faintly. She knew what his gaze implied. Stepping closer, she adjusted his suit jacket and straightened his tie before saying, "Did you think I would plead for them? I'm not that kind-hearted."
"I really thought you would be soft-hearted," Glades Horne said softly, capturing her hands as she adjusted his clothes and looking into her eyes.
"In the business world, deception and the survival of the fittest are common. As long as you're not breaking the law, I won't interfere," Julia said. "Although Valence Group initially attacked Cosmos Group to help me get revenge on Nicholas Coldwell and Diana Powell, it has now evolved into a business competition. Valence Group is planning to acquire Cosmos Group, and they've already bought the shares from Cosmos Group's smaller shareholders."
Glades Horne chuckled softly, not wanting to dwell on the issue. Instead, he took her hand and led her out of the office, asking as they walked, "Tired? Was it a successful trip?"
"Not tired at all, and it was very fruitful!"
Glades Horne continued to chuckle softly. The couple conversed in hushed tones as they left the company together.
Adele Horne had been waiting in the car for some time.
Seeing her brother and sister-in-law emerge, Adele slid down in her seat, hoping her brother wouldn't notice her. Julia's car had grazed Noah Reyes's car, and the damage was quite severe; it was obvious at first glance that there had been a collision. The two bodyguards felt somewhat uneasy, wondering how the Young Master would react upon seeing the Young Mistress's car scraped up.
Indeed, the scrapes on Julia Bluen's car did not escape Glades Horne's eagle eyes.
"Julia, what happened here?" Glades Horne's handsome face darkened, and his eyes grew intense as he pointed at the car, turning to his wife with a questioning look.
Had she been in an accident on the way? The car ended up like this... Why hadn't she mentioned it?
"Well… I can't explain it clearly. You should ask Adele… Huh?" Julia Bluen, a bit intimidated by her husband's sudden change in demeanor, quickly tried to shift the blame to her sister-in-law. But when she looked up, Adele was nowhere to be seen. She was confounded. She had clearly seen Adele in the car just moments before; how had she suddenly disappeared?
"Are you protecting the other party because you're afraid I'll cause them trouble?" Glades Horne asked in a low voice.
"Not really. The other party seemed even more formidable than you; I was actually afraid they'd cause *you* trouble! Right after we left the expo, there was a turn onto the main road. We didn't expect a car to be coming, which is why we almost crashed. But we didn't actually crash, did we? It's just some scrapes on the car, and their car got scratched too. It was one of those luxury business vehicles worth millions, definitely much more expensive than mine. So, Glades, don't be mad, alright? The other party actually came off worse."
