Chapter 397 - 397 Marcel Runs into Trouble (2)_1

"If you want to mooch a meal, just say so. No need for beating around the bush—that's not your style."

"Miss Bluen knows how to cook?" Vice President Li chimed in, surprise in her eyes. She thought all wealthy people avoided the kitchen. The affluent households she knew usually employed chefs for both Chinese and Western cuisine. Julia Bluen was originally the second young miss of the Bluen Family and had now married into the Horne Family—both prominent households. So, it was indeed shocking for Vice President Li to learn that Julia could cook.

"I was interested in cooking before, so I learned," Julia replied with a light smile.

"No wonder your culinary skills are so great. It turns out you learned it formally. My brother is really selfish. He knew you were a good cook but didn't tell any of us, keeping you all to himself," Adele Horne muttered.

Julia just smiled.

Glades Horne indeed didn't want his family to know about her good cooking skills. He knew his family members were quite picky; if they tasted her dishes, they would surely cling to her, and he did not want his beloved wife to become a common cook for others.

It was around five forty in the afternoon when the three of them returned to Valence Toy Industry Company.

Julia's guess was spot on—Glades had been waiting there for nearly three hours.

He didn't call to urge Julia because he knew she must be busy. He was willing to wait quietly rather than disturb his wife at work.

However, Julia's car was stopped even before it could enter the company premises.

Those who stopped her car were Alvin Evans and Dio Powell.

Due to the matter involving Orlando Evans and Othiel Evans, Alvin's Trading Company faced attacks from four powers within the Horne Family; needless to say, aside from the second youngest, the other four brothers had all begun to target the Evans Family's company.

Although Alvin's company had been in business for over a decade and had some strength, how could it withstand the assaults from four powers? Especially the fourth young master, James Horne—unlike the other three masters, he didn't play by the rules. In just one day, he set countless traps for Alvin to fall into, causing him significant losses. If Alvin had a heart condition, he would have been hospitalized by James's underhanded tactics.

His visit was an entreaty for mercy from Glades. He knew he couldn't get into Valence Group; with Glades in his high position, Alvin had no chance of seeing him. So he turned to plead with Julia instead.

Last time, when he came to seek Julia's help, he was stopped and his plea went unaddressed.

This time, he didn't drive; he took a taxi to get to Valence Toy Industry Company.

He had waited in the shadows for Julia to return, having been there all afternoon.

Apart from begging Julia to save his company, he also wanted to request a meeting with Adele Horne. He intended to apologize on behalf of his son and hoped the Horne Family would show leniency and not press charges against him. He had only that one child; he couldn't bear the blow of his child going to prison, and neither could his wife. After Othiel Evans was arrested, his wife cried daily, cursing Orlando Evans and blaming her for Othiel Evans's predicament.

Dio Powell was naturally here for his own company's sake.

Nicholas Coldwell had divorced his daughter. Dio Powell felt that Julia should have had her revenge by now. He hoped she would stop her assault on Cosmos rather than exacerbate it.

At this moment, Cosmos was experiencing a massive loss of clients and uncertain product shipments. They were having trouble receiving new orders. The workers were becoming anxious, with many considering resignation. If the Valence Group's attack intensified, it wouldn't take long for Cosmos to go under.

Dio Powell had no idea that the Valence Group had intensified its attacks on Cosmos at Hansen Ruiz's behest.

Diana Powell didn't dare reveal her encounter with Hansen Ruiz. She merely stated she had met Rachel Bailey and had a conflict with her, resulting in Rachel hitting her.

She was afraid that if she told the truth, her father would strangle her. Her father was already blaming her, saying that it was her fault for snatching away Nicholas Coldwell, which led to the current disaster. But who could have known that Julia had such a powerful background?

"Mrs. Horne, Mrs. Horne."

Alvin Evans and Dio Powell clung to the front of Julia's car like two magnets, forcing Julia to stop.

She rolled down the window and peered out at the two men, asking indifferently, "Do you have a reason for stopping my car?"

"Mrs. Horne, please, save us, we beg of you, save us," the two men pleaded fervently as soon as they saw Julia roll down the window, rushing to her car window.

"Who are you?"

Julia looked toward Alvin Evans.

She recognized Dio Powell, knowing he was there for Cosmos.

"I am Orlando Evans's uncle, Othiel Evans's father, the CEO of Evans Trading Company, Alvin Evans," Alvin Evans quickly introduced himself.

Adele Horne, who had been sitting in the passenger seat, had turned her face away as soon as she saw Alvin Evans, not wanting to see him.

Othiel Evans's father!

Julia's expression immediately turned cold as she asked indifferently, "What do you want?"

He was the father of someone who had committed rape. She was a family member of the victim. There was no reason for her to show Alvin Evans any good grace.

"Mrs. Horne, I have failed in my duty as a parent; it's my fault. He hurt Miss Horne because of me; it's all my fault. But I have only one son, Othiel Evans. Please, have mercy on him. He hasn't... done that, has he? Don't press charges against him. Please let him go. He's still young and doesn't understand the gravity. If he gets sentenced, his whole life will be ruined. We, as his parents, couldn't bear it," Alvin Evans first begged for his son's sake, since his child was more important than his company.

He only had one son, Othiel Evans, and she only had one younger sister-in-law, Adele Horne. Both were their only ones. Was his son the only precious one? Wasn't her sister-in-law just as precious? Adele Horne's loss of innocence was all because of Orlando Evans and Othiel Evans! She was still intent on suing both Othiel Evans and Orlando Evans to their graves. Alvin Evans seeking her help? He'd definitely come to the wrong person.

"Mr. Evans, this is a matter for the police officers and the judges; you should go to them. This doesn't concern me. I don't have such power to decide who gets imprisoned or released—these matters are subject to the law. If no law was broken, he wouldn't be imprisoned even if we sued. If a law was violated, then as people who understand the law, we must accept reality," Julia responded coldly, unwilling to plead for Othiel Evans's sake, and certainly not able to persuade the Horne Family to drop the charges.

Adele Horne had suffered physical and emotional harm. Who could compensate for that? And could anyone even do so?
