Chapter 396 - 396 Marcel is in Trouble (1)_1
Julia Bluen frowned slightly and subtly shifted her body, protecting Adele Horne solidly behind her. Today, Adele shone brilliantly. The man in front of them wasn't friendly; his gaze was too deep to discern his thoughts. Adele had already been hurt, and she couldn't allow danger to come her way again.
"What are you staring at? Haven't you ever seen a woman before?" Adele thought he was looking at Julia and immediately pulled Julia protectively behind herself, an angry scowl on her lovely face as she glared coldly at Noah Reyes.
"How dare you!" The man who had pushed Adele yelled, striding forward to push her again, but Noah Reyes stopped him. Reyes rolled up the car window, no longer looking at Adele, and simply ordered the man in a deep voice to get in the car. Then the car drove off in front of the sisters-in-law, quickly disappearing without a trace.
"Think you're a big shot because you drive a fancy car? Isn't ours a luxury car too? It's worth over a million!" Adele shouted in the direction of the disappearing car.
Julia looked at Adele with a hint of suspicion. When the man had spoken, he sounded quite displeased. Logically, he wasn't the type to let things go easily. Yet, his expression changed when he saw Adele. He didn't allow his men to be uncouth towards them anymore and instead left magnanimously. Could it be that he recognized Adele? Or was he interested in her? But neither seemed likely.
Hearing Adele's ranting, Julia tugged her back, chuckling. "Don't waste your breath. They've gone who knows where. Keep it up and you'll only hurt your throat."
"I've never seen someone so arrogant." Adele, who was used to being arrogant herself, was especially angry when facing someone just as arrogant for the first time.
After getting into the car, she was still seething with anger.
"And you, stop standing in front of me next time," Adele said, turning to Julia, instinctively mixing concern with reprimand. "You're more important than I am; you're carrying a child. What if they started hitting people? If you received even a minor injury, a lot of people would pay dearly."
"Is Mrs. Bluen going to be a mother?" Vice President Li suddenly chimed in with a smile from the back seat.
While starting the engine and moving the car forward, Julia replied shyly, "Yeah, I've just found out I'm pregnant, about a month along now."
She still hadn't experienced any pregnancy symptoms yet.
She had even read some books on the subject, but faced with the dense text, she couldn't seem to absorb the information. It was strange. When it came to documents, which were just as densely packed, why could she understand them? Thankfully, Glades Horne was quite patient in this regard and meticulous in his reading. Whatever she wanted to know, she just had to ask, and he could provide an answer.
He mentioned that pregnancy symptoms can start from the sixth week onward, but it also varies from person to person. Some have severe pregnancy symptoms, whereas others might not have any at all.
As for sour foods, she still loved them.
At home, all the fruit had been replaced with sour varieties. This made her feel somewhat guilty—it was a large family, after all, and she didn't want everyone else to suffer because of her cravings, did she?
"Hey, did you hear what I just said? If something like today happens again, you're not allowed to stand in front of me. You must protect yourself and the baby first," Adele reiterated, her earlier concern returning.
The man in black had been very rough earlier. When he pushed her, his strength seemed substantial. What if he had pushed Julia? She had seen on TV how a simple push could cause a pregnant woman to lose her baby.
She didn't want to lose her nephew or niece.
And she was afraid because if anything happened to Julia, her big brother would go ballistic.
She had seen her big brother enraged before, and she didn't have the courage to go through that a second time.
"You're my sister; how could I not protect you?" Julia answered instinctively, warming Adele's heart with her response, almost moving her to tears. Only then did she realize Julia truly saw her as a sister; she had been so thoughtless in the past.
She remembered the time she had a fever. Although Julia had seemed confrontational, everything she did was with Adele's welfare in mind. She knew then that Julia's concern was genuine, but pride and Orlando Evans's instigations had kept her from accepting Julia's care and love.
"Adele, when we get back to the office later, your brother will probably be waiting there," Julia instructed her sister-in-law as she drove, planning how to smooth things over with Glades Horne. "This car's got a scratch; don't tell your brother about it. Say the other party was rude, so we just considered it even, no compensation on either side, okay?"
"I won't! Those people were rude, and I'm going to let my big brother know so he can issue a citywide manhunt for them!" Adele answered stubbornly. She wasn't as thorough and cautious as Julia. She felt that as the esteemed young miss of the Horne family, being shoved like that was an outrage! If she weren't a woman, she would have jumped out and picked a fight with them!
"Always looking to stir up trouble," Julia muttered helplessly.
Adele pursed her lips and raised an eyebrow. She *did* love to stir up trouble. So what?
However... Looking out the car window, the sun had already softened.
The trade show had been going on all day. When they left the venue, it was already past four in the afternoon. By the time they got back to the company, it would be closing time.
After work, the top priority was food.
Speaking of which, this morning, the breakfast Julia made had made her eyes light up; it was so delicious! How could Julia's cooking be even better than the family's head chef? Why hadn't she known this before? Her big brother probably kept Julia's culinary skills a secret. That's why, every now and then, he would take Julia back to their little home, claiming they needed some time as a couple. But she suspected it was really because her brother was craving Julia's home-cooked meals.
"Sister-in-law, your cooking is really impressive," Adele said, a pleased, almost sheepish smile on her face.
Julia glanced at Adele, saw her grin, and broke into a chuckle. She found her sister-in-law quite genuine at heart and was delighted with their current relationship. After two months of effort and so many incidents, she had finally won over her temperamental sister-in-law, who was no longer so difficult in her presence.
